In the open space of the alchemy room, Jian Shu heard Zhang Dongji's report and couldn't help but show a hint of worry.
Zhang Dong glanced warily at the other sect disciples who were occasionally looking in their direction, and whispered, "Senior Brother Jian, the Buddhist sect has ulterior motives, and the Ghost Control Sect seems to have joined forces with them. We should make plans as soon as possible."
Jian Shu glanced at the doorway where people were constantly coming and going and said, "Don't worry, they are just following orders. Once they leave here, they will go their separate ways."
Zhang Dongji was taken aback. What did those words mean?
"That Junior Sister Shi..."
Jian Shu ignored Zhang Dongji's somewhat anxious gaze and stared expressionlessly at the canopy of the ancient tree in front of him. "Shi Shi's matter is not something you or I can manage. Her life or death can only be determined by herself."
Zhang Dongji was completely stunned, never expecting that Jian Shu, who had always taken good care of Shi Lan, would say such a thing.
Jianshu patted him on the shoulder, pointed subtly to the sky, and said, "The game up there is not something we can interfere with."
Zhang Dong blinked in disbelief.
How did such an ordinary adventure end up involving the upper realm?
Zhang Dongji sighed, his posture becoming more hunched. Even Jian Shu had stopped helping him; it seemed that Shi Shimei was beyond saving.
At this moment, Shi Lan, who had just finished adjusting her breathing, was preparing to leave the mountain valley.
A series of light footsteps came from ahead, along with a woman's charming voice.
"Senior Brother Xu, the Hundred Herbs Garden has yielded a great harvest this time. You will surely receive praise from the Sect Master when we return," the woman said with a sweet laugh. "Don't forget your contribution, Senior Brother!"
"Junior Sister Zhou deserves the most credit for breaking the restrictions on the Hundred Herbs Garden this time. Upon returning to the sect, I will certainly ask Master for her reward on her behalf, but..."
Xu Qing paused slightly, and the woman immediately understood and smiled, "These are the spiritual fruits that I just picked. If you don't mind, please accept them, Senior Brother."
As she spoke, the woman slightly extended her fair wrist.
Shi Lan craned her neck to look, and saw two thumb-sized, cherry-red fruits gently rolling in her fair palm.
Xu Qing was reserved and polite.
Shi Lan curled his lip in disdain, putting on a convincing act, but unfortunately, his greedy eyes betrayed his true thoughts.
The woman covered her mouth, chuckled, and stuffed the spiritual fruit into his hand, saying, "Senior brother, please don't be so polite."
Xu Qing then pretended to refuse but opened the storage bag, preparing to put it away.
Shi Lan had been listening to the two of them ramble on for so long, just waiting for this moment when he would be distracted.
A fire dragon instantly took shape, its raging flames mixed with towering heat waves, roaring as it pounced towards Xu Qing, who had his back turned.
"Senior brother, be careful!" The woman cried out in surprise when she saw the orange-red fire dragon. With a flick of her wrist, a small array plate floated to the ground.
A hazy, transparent light enveloped the two of them, blocking the rapidly approaching fire dragon.
Xu Qing quickly turned around, his fingers unconsciously forming a defensive spell, and a small golden fan swirled above his head.
As the light shone through, the fire dragon, having failed in its attack, began to dissipate. Shi Lan put away the array plate, channeled her true energy, and pointed at the fire dragon.
A ripple of air currents appeared in the sky, and a moment later, a small, graceful snake leaped out of thin air.
Looking at the lifelike serpent, Xu Qing showed a hint of surprise and doubt.
This is a spirit serpent formed by gathering wind. How did Shi Lan, with her mixed spiritual roots, manage to do that?
Xu Qing was completely baffled, so he simply stopped thinking about it. Anyway, as long as he caught Shi Lan, he could find out by searching her soul.
The serpent leaped twice in the air, then suddenly jumped to the side of the fire dragon.
In an instant, the fire dragon's body suddenly swelled, and the temperature around it doubled. The small snake, which was originally only as thick as a finger, was transformed into a giant python as wide as a person under the fire dragon's influence. Its large head flicked its tongue, and its huge tail slammed heavily onto the light barrier.
The light shield flickered a few times before disappearing. Zhou Qing's face paled, and she quickly threw out a light pink silk handkerchief to cover her head.
"Senior brother, what should we do?"
Zhou Qing's strength lies in formations, but fighting is not her forte. Xu Qing was busy fighting his enemies and didn't pay any attention to her. Helpless, Zhou Qing had no choice but to use the life-saving shield that her master had given her before she left, hoping that she could hold out until her senior brother dealt with the approaching enemy.
Xu Qing flicked his finger, waving out the small fan that had been hovering above his head. At the same time, he made hand seals to create two defensive light shields. Once the pale golden light covered his entire body, he threw out a golden rope about a foot long.
The small fan, like a mountain peak, blocked the fire dragon's attack, while the golden rope, like a long snake, bypassed the wind snake's strangulation and pounced straight at Shi Lan.
It seems he intends to capture me alive.
Shi Lan gave a cold look, patted the storage bag, and produced a pair of double-headed scissors.
The scissors were entirely black, with only the blade tip showing a hint of light, making them look like the embroidery scissors used by ladies in the secular world.
Xu Qing scoffed when he saw that the scissors were less than half the thickness of his rope. How could such a thing be a match for the Dragon Rope bestowed upon him by his master?
Sure enough, the scissors only made a brief contact with the golden rope before losing all their power and falling to the ground with a clatter.
Seeing that he had succeeded in his attack, Xu Qing immediately showed joy and quickly manipulated the golden rope to entangle Shi Lan.
Shi Lan pursed her lips slightly, and the intricate hand seals she had formed with her fingers were just completed. A five-colored phoenix flew out from her fingertips and grew longer in the wind.
Jin Suo pondered and descended, attempting to repeat his previous trick, bypassing Cai Luan's feet.
The colorful phoenix let out a long cry, and with a sharp peck of its long beak, the golden rope was caught like a small insect, struggling but unable to break free.
The colorful phoenix flapped its large wings repeatedly, stirring up air currents that carried fallen leaves and withered branches towards the raging, swirling wind serpent. At the same time, its long beak snapped the golden rope in two with each opening and closing motion.
