After dealing with Zhou Qing, who had been abandoned by her fellow disciples, Shi Lan weighed the seized storage bag in her hand and prepared to leave.
Suddenly, I heard a very faint breathing sound.
Who's there?
Shi Lan stared coldly toward the source of the sound.
The leaves rustled, and a long, slender hand gently parted the branches intertwined with the vines, revealing a handsome face with a slightly wicked air.
"I am You Yue from the Demon Spirit Sect. Greetings, Fellow Daoist Shi."
You Yue stepped through the branches, took half a step forward, and politely bowed.
Shi Lan made a hand seal with her fingers, staring at him warily. "How long have you been there?"
You Yue smiled broadly, seemingly oblivious to the shimmering light flashing at Shi Lan's fingertips. "Let me think..."
You Yue tilted his head slightly, as if deep in thought, his slender fingers stroking his sharply defined chin. "It was probably around this time... for you."
You Yue made two hand seals similar to those of Shi Lan.
Shi Lan frowned slightly. Although You Yue's movements weren't quite standard, they were indeed quite convincing.
Seeing Shi Lan's displeased expression, You Yue quickly said, "Fellow Daoist Shi, please don't misunderstand. I didn't steal your hand seals. What I just did was a secret hand seal from my sect."
To his surprise, his lack of explanation only made things worse; when he did explain, Shi Lan became even angrier.
If you've already learned it, why lie about it?
Seeing that Shi Lan was clearly angry, You Yue knew that he couldn't explain it clearly in a short time, so he could only say, "If you don't believe me, I can demonstrate it on the spot, but are you sure you want to see it now?"
Shi Lan looked up in the direction Xu Qing had left, but said nothing.
You Yue followed her gaze and glanced at the dense forest where the branches were trembling slightly. He said, "I came here to tell you that of the six major sects here, only my Demon Spirit Sect has no hostility towards you. I have already tested the Sword Sect for you, and it seems there is nothing unusual. As for the others, you will have to judge for yourself."
Shi Lan stared at him coldly, "How can I trust you?"
You Yue hesitated for a moment, then looked up at the sky and said, "It's really hot today." As he spoke, he gently lifted his sleeve, inadvertently revealing his wrist.
Shi Lan glanced at it indifferently, her expression changing slightly.
You Yue quickly lowered his sleeves, pretended to fan himself, and said, "Being watched all the time is also very distressing for me."
Shi Lan frowned slightly. "Then why did you come?"
You Yue said with a bitter face, "With this, I can't come even if I don't want to."
Shi Lan pursed her lips slightly, suppressing a smile, and said, "So what are you going to do?"
You Yue shook his head. "There's nothing I can do. I'm just following orders to do my best to protect you. If it really doesn't work, then I'll have to give up. My sect has about ten thousand people. We can't let this kind of thing happen again and again."
Upon hearing this, Shi Lan's expression changed. "What did you say?"
You Yue bit his tongue, deeply regretting that he had let it slip without thinking. He quickly changed the subject, saying, "Fellow Daoist Shi, this place will soon be surrounded by Xu Qing. We should find another place to recuperate."
Shi Lan stared at him coldly.
You Yue quickly turned his head and took the lead in clearing the way.
Shi Lan stared intently at his tall back, assessing the difference in their heights.
At this moment, she had already consumed more than half of her true energy, while he had not consumed any at all, having waited in comfort. With the one gaining and the other losing, if they were to fight, she would have no chance of winning. Moreover, there were pursuers behind her. It was really not worth turning against him for something she would eventually find out.
You Yue led Shi Lan to a very secluded spot in front of a tree.
Shi Lan looked up at the small nest woven from vines and asked, "What do you mean by this?"
You Yue pointed to a tree so large that it would take several people to encircle it and said, "This is the Divine Tree, which can absorb all outward-released divine souls. You carry blood evil energy, and those bald monks from the Buddhist sect can sense your presence through their divine souls. This is a forbidden zone for divine souls, so they will subconsciously avoid this place. You can hide here for a while, and when the time comes, I will come to pick you up. As long as you can get out of here alive, I will have nothing to do with you."
Shi Lan looked at him for a while, then turned to look at the big tree, "If I leave here, will these sects stop killing me?"
You Yue laughed and said, "How could that be?"
Shi Lan nodded. "Then why should I hide?"
You Yue opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say.
“They want to kill me, but I don’t even know why,” Shi Lan smiled faintly. “There are sect masters, academy leaders, and hall masters outside the barrier. I’m just a lowly Foundation Establishment cultivator. I’ll be wiped out as soon as I show my face.” Shi Lan said, “I’m going to die anyway, so why should I die in such a miserable way?”
She kicked at the dust at her feet, like an innocent and playful child. "It is said that those who come here are the most outstanding talents of the sect," she said, tilting her head to look at You Yue.
You Yue nodded.
Indeed, the disciples sent by these sects are all those who have made a name for themselves in recent years.
Shi Lan laughed and said, "Then I might as well go all out and let them know that I'm not someone they can bully however they want."
You Yue's expression changed slightly, "You mean..."
Shi Lan put her finger to her lips and said coquettishly, "Shh, it'll lose its charm if you say it out loud."
You Yue's lips twitched. Just who was this woman favored by the patriarch? She was really crazy when she did things... However, he liked her and was looking forward to it.
Shi Lan's smile vanished as quickly as it appeared.
"Alright, Fellow Daoist You, this is none of your business. I think you should take care of the people in your sect, lest I accidentally hurt the wrong person."
You Yue raised his thick, sword-like eyebrows, a wicked smile playing on his lips. "Then I shall respectfully comply."
Shi Lan nodded.
You Yue looked around, randomly chose a direction, and strolled away.
Shi Lan stared at his back until he was no longer visible before flying up to the place that looked like a bird's nest.
