Chapter 262 Insignificant People in the Apocalypse (Part 10)

Shi Lan quietly got up and tiptoed over.

The woman was like a soulless puppet, her thin body swaying as the man manipulated her, her dark eyes staring blankly into the void, as if only there could attract her attention.

The man seemed to find her too dull; after moving a couple of times, he started grumbling.

Shi Lan carefully walked around the machine and approached it little by little.

The woman seemed to sense something. Her eyes, which remained unfathomable even in the candlelight, shifted slightly. When she saw the sharp blade, a glint of light flashed in her eyes.

Shi Lan realized that she had seen her. For some reason, she felt nervous and even a little regretful. She felt that she should have investigated more thoroughly, at least to find out the relationship between the people, before taking action.

After all, one should always be wary of others; she was too reckless.

The woman remained silent and stared at Shi Lan. After a while, she stretched out her arm, her expression softening. She bent her slender arm and tightly embraced the man's arm, making a cat-like meow.

The man paused, glanced down at the woman, and, seemingly pleased by her, began to move wildly.

Shi Lan moved slowly, and when she reached the man's back, she swiftly brought down her knife. The sharp blade pierced his spine like lightning, breaking through his heart.

The man tilted his head back and roared, while the woman held him tightly as he struggled, letting out a long, pleasurable moan.

Outside the window, the man standing by the kitchen heard the noise and chuckled, "Wang Meng, take it easy."

Wang Meng lowered his head helplessly, and gushing blood flowed down his back.

Shi Lan put a finger to her lips and pulled Wang Meng off her. The woman quickly got up and, disregarding her disheveled clothes, helped Shi Lan put him behind the machine.

Shi Lan moved the cushion again to cover the bloodstains on the ground, indicating that she should lie down again, and then pointed outside.

The woman understood, reached out and lifted her half-covered clothes, softly saying to the outside, "Brother Qiang."

Zhang Qiang had just started stewing the mixed stew and was idly killing time when the woman's call sent a shiver down his spine and made him momentarily dazed. Ever since he had let those people treat her that way, she hadn't called him that in a long time.

"What's wrong, little sister?"

Footsteps approached faintly outside the window. Shi Lan quickly walked to the door, holding a machete and waiting quietly.

The woman, sounding somewhat suppressed and shy, whispered, "Brother Meng said if you want to, we can do it together..."

His steps faltered slightly, then quickened. Without a second thought, Zhang Qiang pushed open the door, a forced smile on his face, and said, "Thank you, Brother Meng..."

Zhang Qiang had barely finished saying "brother" when he heard a whoosh of wind. Before he could even look up, he felt a chill on his neck and saw the reflection of a strange woman and a headless body in front of him.

Zhang Qiang felt that the body looked somewhat familiar, but before he could figure it out, he was plunged into darkness forever.

Shi Lan quickly closed the door, grabbed the woman who rushed up and kicked the man in the head, made her put her clothes back on, and asked her about the two people in the master's room.

The woman said, "The one with the beard is Zhou Ren, who has a gun and a knife. The other one is Wang Yong, who has a triangular dagger and is very powerful."

Shi Lan nodded.

"Alright, you stay here and wait until I'm done cleaning up before you come out."

The woman grabbed Shi Lan in alarm and said, "They are really powerful, you have to be careful."

Shi Lan patted her cold hand, pushed her behind her, and then walked out.

In the house with the pointed roof and red bricks next door, Zhou Ren was lying on the bed resting, while Wang Yong was wiping his triangular thorns, wondering when his younger brother would finish so he could go and enjoy himself.

Outside the window, Shi Lan cautiously peered inside through the thick glass and the plastic sheeting covering it for warmth.

In the dim light, the two went about their own business, their expressions calm and at ease, seemingly unaware that anything was different.

Shi Lan rolled her eyes, bent down, picked up a stone from the ground, and threw it at the iron gate at the entrance.

The stone fell with a 'clang'.

The sound waves spread rapidly through the deserted night. Zhou Ren's eyelids twitched, and he suddenly stood up. "Someone's coming."

Wang Yong tossed aside the rag he had used to wipe the cloth, stood up, and said, "I'll go take a look."

Zhou Ren nodded, got out of bed, and looked out the window.

Shi Lan hid by the door, waiting for Wang Yong to walk out of the door so she could unleash her deadly attack.

Wang Yong was quite alert. Shi Lan thought he had hidden himself very well, but he still sensed something was wrong. As he hurriedly closed the door, he didn't forget to shout, "Brother Zhou, the person has already come in."

Shi Lan noticed that the door was halfway open and was pulling back, so she quickly kicked the inside of the door hard.

Wang Yong was quite strong, but he still couldn't stop her. The door was forced open with a thud.

Wang Yong panicked and quickly looked outside.

Shi Lan was outnumbered and outmatched, so she didn't give him a chance to react. She quickly closed in and her thick blade kept slashing at his vital points.

Wang Yong parried the attack and shouted, "Wang Meng, Zhang Qiang, come over here quickly, this guy is a bit tough."

It was quiet outside the door; no one answered him at all.

Wang Yong felt a chill run down his spine, and his face turned ashen as he asked, "What did you do to Wang Meng?"

Shi Lan pursed her lips, too lazy to pay him any attention, and her skills became even more ruthless.

Seeing her like this, Wang Yong panicked and accidentally got injured.

Seeing that his top general was losing ground, Zhou Ren shouted, "What are you doing? Hurry up and finish this, then go check on your brother."

Wang Yong came to his senses. Although he had a premonition that his younger brother was likely in grave danger, he still clung to a sliver of hope that he was alright.

After all, the one who came to ambush them was just a woman. Aren't women usually very afraid of killing and seeing blood?

At that moment, he forgot that the woman he thought was afraid of blood was holding a cleaver, aiming her attacks at his vitals.

Shi Lan pursed her lips and launched an attack on Wang Yong. Zhou Ren, who was standing to the side, noticed that Shi Lan was different from anyone he had met before, so he would occasionally launch surprise attacks from the side.

Shi Lan was a little irritated. In order to end the battle as soon as possible, she simply activated the Soul-Chasing Nail in her mind.

The dark light was barely noticeable in the already dim room. Zhou Ren only felt a sharp pain between his eyebrows, and then he felt nothing more.

Wang Yong didn't even see what happened before Zhou Ren collapsed like a wooden stake. He panicked and shouted, "What did you do to Brother Zhou?"

Shi Lan ignored him and her blade flashed repeatedly. Wang Yong struggled to hold on for a few moments, but Shi Lan still managed to stab him in the heart.

Blood gushed out, and Shi Lan disgustedly drew her machete. Just as she was about to go out to call for help, the woman Shi Lan had instructed to hide behind suddenly rushed over, picked up the long knife Zhou Ren had dropped, and started slashing at Zhou Ren without any warning.

Shi Lan was taken aback and turned to look at her.

The woman seemed to have been suppressing her emotions for a long time. Her arms waved incessantly for a long time until the corpse on the ground turned into a tattered sack. She only stopped slowly when her hands and feet were trembling so much that she could no longer stand.

Shi Lan slowly stepped forward and carefully removed the hilt of the knife from her hand, fearing that she might do something rash.

The woman stood trembling for a while, then suddenly sat down on the ground and burst into tears.
