After a short rest, the group reunited and set off again. Shi Lan insisted on riding in Zhou Jinrao's Land Rover, which was said to be her companion, with Zhang Xiaomei and Zhou Bin. Ming Hao wanted to go with them, but gave up because his own car did not have enough firepower.
The two vehicles sped forward one after the other, and the zombies that appeared on the road were successively wiped out by their overwhelming force.
Before she knew it, cars began to gather on the road, and the empty road became lively. Shi Lan turned her head to look at the cars that flashed by, her face somewhat solemn.
These past few days, she had been trying to lure Liu Hui into a horde of zombies. Originally, this was a simple matter for her, but Liu Hui seemed to have sensed something or was still frightened by the previous zombie attack. These days, she was either circling around Minghao or following Shen Chen around, and even at night she would go in and out with the two of them. This left Shi Lan at a loss.
As they approached the base, Shi Lan couldn't help but feel anxious.
Liu Hui was terrified. If they let her into the base, it would be difficult to get her out again.
If Liu Hui is forcibly kidnapped before entering the base, then we'll have to confront Shen Chenminghao.
Although Shi Lan had achieved minor success in body refinement, she still lacked supernatural abilities. She had seen Ming Hao's fireball before, and its power was even greater than that of the fireball technique. Moreover, there was Shen Chen over there. Shi Lan was worried that if this attack failed, Liu Hui might not even face her next time.
Behind him, Zhou Bin was biting into the shrimp chips he had fried that morning, making a crunching sound as he chewed.
While patting the dirt off him, Zhang Xiaomei took the opportunity to grab some shrimp chips and feed them to Tao Jinrao, who was also a foodie.
A faint, fresh aroma wafted past her nose, and a thought suddenly crossed Shi Lan's mind.
During lunch, Shi Lan gathered the people from both cars into the front car and, using the excuse that there were too many people heading to the base, suggested going to Fudian District, which was marked on the map and was dozens of kilometers away, to find a large supermarket that hadn't been visited and get some stock.
Minghao was terrified of these zombies, and the first thing he thought of when he heard that he was going somewhere else was hundreds or thousands of zombies.
A hundred miles or so further on is the base, fortified with high walls and layers of protection, where everything one could possibly need is available. He didn't see the need to risk going anywhere else.
Shi Lan looked at his timid and hesitant appearance and smiled coldly: "In this world, everything depends on strength and resources. We are empty-handed now. Do you think the base will support us for nothing?"
Shi Lan glanced disdainfully at Liu Hui, who was cowering in front of Shen Chen. "Besides, you've brought along a young lady who doesn't know anything. They're not a charity. Why should they give you the supplies that were obtained with blood and lives? Unless you abandon her, maybe they'll share some supplies with you because you're both superhumans."
Minghao's face was a little gloomy, but his expression clearly revealed a sense of consideration.
Liu Hui looked around in terror. Ever since she had been in close contact with a zombie, she had been terrified of them. In the past, she had no choice but to endure it on the road. Now, just as she was about to enter a safe area with high walls erected, she was about to be abandoned.
"Shi Lan, what do you mean? I'm not the only one here who doesn't know anything. Zhang Xiaomei and that kid are just freeloaders too, aren't they?"
Shi Lan gave her a cold look and said, "Little Sister has been taking care of everyone's three meals a day. She is the busiest person every day. Zhou Bin is still a child, but he has always helped Little Sister. Every meal you eat is made by them. You still say you are eating for free? What are you if you don't even lift a finger?"
Liu Hui moved her lips, wanting to retort, but Shen Chen pinched her hard, making her wince in pain, but she dared not say anything more.
Shi Lan, however, refused to let her go. She snatched the chopsticks from her hand and said, "From today onwards, your little sister will not prepare your meals. If you want to eat, you'll have to cook for yourself."
"You!" Liu Hui stood up abruptly, furious, ready to argue with Shi Lan.
Shen Chen tugged at her, causing her to stumble and nearly fall to the ground.
Liu Hui was in so much pain that her eyes were filled with tears, but she didn't dare to utter a sound. Shi Lan thought that she was only tough at home and would only use all her strength to deal with her.
Seeing that no one spoke, Tao Jinrao said, "I agree with Ms. Shi's idea. Although we don't know the specific conditions for entering the base yet, we can guess by thinking about it. There are so many people going to the base now, but the base area is only so big, and the number of houses that can be built is limited. So how will they be allocated?"
Tao Jinrao looked around and said, "I think it's about capability and resources."
"Speaking of ability, Mr. Ming and Mr. Shen are naturally no problem, but your friend Miss Liu," he nodded politely to Liu Hui and said, "please forgive my bluntness, but without sufficient supplies as compensation, the base probably won't want her."
Liu Hui stopped them from going to find supplies because she wanted to get into the base as soon as possible. Tao Jinrao's words were like a bucket of cold water in winter, chilling her to the bone.
"No way?"
Liu Hui laughed shakily, completely unaware that her voice was trembling violently.
Shi Lan snorted and said, "Why not? This base is meant to accommodate survivors from several nearby provinces. Why do you think they would take in a good-for-nothing like you who can't do anything and is unwilling to do anything?"
As if seeking a sense of security, Liu Hui leaned on Chen Chen's shoulder and whispered, "Brother Chen, you can't just abandon me."
Shi Lan only needed to glance at them to know that the two of them had definitely already had the most in-depth exchange.
At this moment, Shi Lan began to admire Shen Chen. Knowing that this woman had relationships with his friends, he was still able to accept her. Such magnanimity was truly admirable.
