Chapter 269 Insignificant People in the Apocalypse (Seventeen)

The sky was perpetually gray. Two cars pulled up one after the other by the roadside. In the lead car, Shi Lan glared angrily at Ming Hao, "Are you sure you want to separate from us and each find someone else?"

Minghao's face flushed, his eyes darted around, and he caught a glimpse of the slender Zhang Xiaomei and the tiny Zhou Bin in the back seat before quickly looking away.

Tao Jinrao, who was diagonally behind him, noticed his expression, frowned, and said, "Mr. Ming, only by operating together can we obtain the most supplies in the shortest time. Your decision is not a wise one."

Liu Hui gripped the back of the seat, squeezed between the driver and passenger seats, and glanced disdainfully at the people in the row of seats, saying, "I'm just an ordinary person on our side, while you have two people on your side. Why should we help you with the supplies going in and out of the base?"

Shi Lan gave her a cold stare, then turned to Ming Hao, "So that's why you suggested splitting up?"

Minghao felt that Shi Lan's gaze was like a sharp knife, scraping him so much that he couldn't help but turn his face to the car window in order to avoid the embarrassment that he himself was unaware of.

Seeing that Minghao couldn't even lift his head, Shen Chen was afraid that he wouldn't be able to withstand the pressure and would overturn the results of last night's discussion, so he quickly took over the conversation, "Shi Lan, we made this suggestion after careful consideration."

He pushed Liu Hui aside, using her body to completely shield Minghao. "You're very skilled, and Mr. Tao has high ice-type abilities. The two of you working together are enough to handle small groups of zombies. Although Zhang Xiaomei doesn't have any special abilities, she can still carry heavy loads. If it's just about collecting enough supplies to enter the base, I don't think it will be a problem for you."

Shen Chen pushed up his glasses and continued, "Of course, the supplies you collect this time are yours to keep. No matter how much, we won't be envious."

Shen Chen believed he had already considered things for them enough, taking into account not only the use of force but also the issue of moving supplies.

There was no way around it; after all, she was Minghao's fiancée, his woman's sister, so he had to think about it more.

Shi Lan scoffed. Why did she say that? It sounded like Shen Chen had given them permission to go and get supplies.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiaomei's eyes reddened, and her anger made her shout, "You were the ones who begged and pleaded to follow us. If it weren't for the fact that you were willing to clear the way ahead, who would have bothered to travel with you all the way?"

Liu Hui snorted and muttered, "Who would want to go with you? If it weren't for Brother Hao's kindness, I wouldn't bother with you even if you begged me."

Zhang Xiaomei was so angry that her hands trembled. It turned out that all she had taken care of all this time was a bunch of ungrateful wretches.

Zhou Bin was young and didn't understand what everyone was saying, but seeing Zhang Xiaomei trembling with anger, he, being protective of his own, also got angry.

Shi Lan saw him puffing out his cheeks, raising his little fists, looking like he was about to rush out, and coughed heavily.

Zhou Bin subconsciously looked up, and Shi Lan glared at him fiercely.

Zhou Bin was startled, then remembered Shi Lan's warning that he should not reveal his superpowers unless necessary. He quickly reached out his little hand, grabbed Zhang Xiaomei's finger, and shrank into Zhang Xiaomei's arms.

Zhang Xiaomei thought Zhou Bin was frightened by the heavy atmosphere in the room, so she quickly patted his back to comfort him.

Shi Lan glanced at him, then turned her gaze to Ming Hao. She couldn't understand why such an intelligent woman as the original owner would have her heart tied to such a selfish, cowardly, and weak man. Was it because of his occasional displays of thoughtfulness and gentleness?

Minghao could feel Shi Lan's gaze, and his tall figure shrank back to the side. After all, he had indeed invited Shi Lan and her group to come along, and now that the base was so close, he was letting Shen Chen drive them away, which made him feel bad.

Shi Lan glanced at him disdainfully, trying to suppress the bitterness that wasn't hers, opened the car door, and walked away without looking back.

Zhang Xiaomei, unable to contain herself any longer, quickly picked up Zhou Bin and followed him down.

Tao Jinrao glanced at Liu Hui, who clearly showed delight, shrugged, and took long strides, catching up with Zhang Xiaomei ahead of her.

Having witnessed their shamelessness firsthand, Tao Jinrao understood why Shi Lan had concealed Zhang Xiaomei's supernatural abilities. With such a group of selfish and self-serving people watching over her, she had it pretty tough.

The Land Rover roared off the road, and Chen Chen stroked his chin thoughtfully, saying, "Don't you guys feel like something's a little off?"

Liu Hui glanced at him blankly, then shook her head.

Minghao snorted irritably, "You're the one who made them leave, and now that they've done as you wish, you're starting to doubt them. What exactly do you want from them to be satisfied?"

Shen Chen noticed the dissatisfaction in Ming Hao's tone and raised an eyebrow.

Now that he and Minghao are both superhumans, they are evenly matched when they fight, and he doesn't feel the need to be as tolerant as before.

Seeing Shen Chen's unfriendly expression, Liu Hui worried that the two would really start arguing and delay their cooperation, so she quickly said, "Alright, they've all left. Let's hurry up, or they'll snatch all the good stuff."

Minghao glanced at her sullenly and unfolded the map.

Shen Chen squinted, his eyes still bulging.

Liu Hui quickly clasped her hands together in a pleading gesture, silently begging for permission.

Ever since she learned that she needed supplies to get into the base, Liu Hui had been feeling uneasy. Now that she had finally gotten rid of the troublesome Shi Lan, she didn't want any more accidents to happen.

Shen Chen snorted softly, reached out and pinched her chest. Seeing that she looked pained but dared not make a sound, his expression softened, and he started the car.

In a reed bed leading to Fudian District, Zhou Bin rushed in like a gust of wind.

"Sister Shi, they're here."
