Chapter 278 The Girl Possessed by a Ghost (Part 7)

A faint rustling sound came from outside the door. Jiang Yunhuai reached out and covered her mouth, whispering, "Lan'er, it's me."

Wang stared at him in terror, trembling and struggling to try and lure the people outside in.

Jiang Yunhuai tightened his arms around her, trapping her in his embrace. He scrutinized her for a moment before whispering, "I am Shouzhi, your Shouzhi."

Wang's eyes darted around, and it took her a while to remember that the nickname of this body's fiancé, Jiang Yunhuai, was Shouzhi.

Knowing the identity of the visitor, Wang felt a little more at ease; at least she was certain that the visitor wouldn't harm her.

Seeing that she had stopped struggling, Jiang Yunhuai slowly released his grip.

Wang shrank back a couple of times until her back was pressed against the cold wall, then asked through trembling teeth, "What are you doing here?"

Jiang Yunhuai noticed the tremor in her voice and saw that she was only wearing a thin undergarment. He was worried that the wall was too cold and that she, who was already weak, would catch a chill. So he pulled a pillow from the head of the bed and was about to put it behind her, but seeing her wary look, he had no choice but to hand it to her and said, "It's cold at night. You are weak and can't stand the cold."

Wang placed a soft pillow behind her back, her gaze fixed on him.

Seeing her like this, Jiang Yunhuai had no choice but to withdraw his hand that was about to pull the quilt, and sighed, "I heard from my father-in-law that you have forgotten your past life, and I was worried, so I came to see you."

Wang huddled at the foot of the bed, as if only in this way could she feel safe.

"That's right, I only remember my parents now, and I don't recognize anyone else."

Jiang Yunhuai looked at her with heartache, his Adam's apple bobbing rapidly before he swallowed his sorrow. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have let you go home alone that day. If I had taken you home, the horse wouldn't have startled you and caused you to end up like this."

Wang stared wide-eyed, thinking to herself that if this hadn't happened, she would probably have gone to the underworld long ago, and how could she have reunited with her husband?

"It's not your fault, it's all fate."

Jiang Yunhuai reached out, wanting to touch her fair and tender face, to feel the warmth he remembered.

Wang turned her face to the side, lowered her head slightly, and looked displeased.

Jiang Yunhuai paused, a look of sadness appearing on his handsome face. "I was the one who made the appointment with you that day. Now that you've become like this, how can I just abandon you?" He took a deep breath, suppressing his pain, and tried his best to appear optimistic. "Don't worry, no matter what you become, you will always be my wife. I will travel all over the Great Zhao to cure you."

Upon hearing this, Wang immediately became anxious.

She thought Jiang Yunhuai had come to say his final goodbye, but who knew he would pull such a stunt? She was an outsider, and she knew nothing about the past of this body. Even if he brought Hua Tuo, she would not be able to regain her memories.

"Hey, why are you like this? I've already told you I don't know you, why are you still clinging to this?"

Wang couldn't help but shove him hard. Jiang Yunhuai's knees were on the mattress, one in front of the other. He shifted his weight forward, and Wang didn't hold back. She was unprepared, and Jiang Yunhuai was pushed backward.

Seeing that he was unwilling to give up, Wang decided to go all out for her own future.

“Lord Jiang, I have become like this now, and it is impossible to go back to what I was before,” Madam Wang stepped forward, trying to appear friendly. “You are a handsome and talented man, and you have become a high-ranking official at such a young age. Your future is bright.”

Wang glanced cautiously at Jiang Yunhuai, whose eyes were half-closed and who seemed to be listening intently. "The gap between us is too big. I think it would be best if we went our separate ways and never had anything to do with each other after marriage."

Jiang Yunhuai stood there like a statue, but it felt as if a huge hole had been torn open in his heart, and hot blood was gushing out through the hole. The emptiness of loss and the indescribable heartache made him unable to move even a little.

Wang waited quietly for a while, and seeing that he did not answer, she tentatively asked again, "You agree, right?"

Jiang Yunhuai used almost all his strength to keep his lips from trembling, "Is that really what you think?"

Jiang Yunhuai's voice was somewhat unsteady, but his words already revealed a sense of reconciliation.

Wang was not stupid; she immediately realized what was happening and nodded hastily.

After a long silence, Jiang Yunhuai finally couldn't hold back and punched the carved railing of the bed.

The sturdy four-poster bed shook violently twice, and the carved railing made a crisp sound as the three-finger-thick railing instantly split in two.

Wang was so frightened that she trembled.

Jiang Yunhuai forced a smile that was barely better than a grimace, and said in a low voice, "Alright, I will do as you wish."

Wang was overjoyed; her heart, which had been shrunken in fear, instantly regained its full strength.

She thought to herself that she should have avoided all that trouble. The young master of a wealthy family was so generous; he agreed as soon as she asked. It was nothing like the complicated and troublesome things that Madam Yu had made it sound.

It's definitely because Madam Yu doesn't want to lose such a wealthy in-law, so she's deliberately making excuses to delay. When the day comes, even if she doesn't want to, she'll still be forced into the bridal sedan chair. Luckily, she didn't completely trust them, otherwise she would have been sold out and still be helping them count the money.

In an instant, Wang hated both Yu and Shi's father.

A maid next door heard the noise, knocked lightly on the door, and asked if something was wrong.

Jiang Yunhuai looked at the overjoyed woman in front of him, and the sadness in his eyes was like a soft ribbon, silently and delicately wrapping around her.

Wang and Zhou Yuan's marriage was arranged. Zhou Yuan was a scholar who only studied the classics and had nothing in common with Wang, who was illiterate. From their marriage until Wang's death, the most tender moment he was was probably when they were cuddling after the lights were off, when he would pull the blanket over his body. Wang had never been looked at with such tenderness.
