The shocking grain embezzlement scandal ended with the downfall of officials from the faction of Grand Secretary Yan.
Jiang Yunhuai sat on the edge of the bed and slowly recounted what had happened.
On the bed, the girl lay quietly with her eyes closed and her arms crossed over her chest. If it weren't for the occasional twitch of her fingertips, Jiang Yunhuai would have thought she was already fast asleep.
"I have already spoken to Abbot Zhi about your situation. He would like to invite you over to personally examine your condition. Would you be willing?"
Jiang Yunhuai gently wiped the medicine from the corner of her mouth, gazed at her picturesque face for a while, and smiled faintly.
"Although it's difficult for me, I still don't want that ghost to taint such a beautiful Lan'er. Besides, I also have some selfish reasons. Kind girl, since you're helping, please help to the end. I only ask to see her alive. Don't worry, I will never offend you in the slightest." Jiang Yunhuai held the girl's hands across his chest, one hand supporting her neck, and the other supporting her legs, and carried her into the car that was already waiting outside.
Shi Lan could clearly feel the carriage beneath her swaying gently, the clatter of horses' hooves and the creaking of wheels on the ground filling the air.
Wang's soul is about to completely merge with her body. Shi Lan's soul is no longer as free in this body as it used to be. Now, without Wang, she can't even do something as simple as opening her eyes.
Jiang Yunhuai tucked the brocade quilt back in to make sure she wouldn't get hurt, then instructed the person outside, "Hurry up, don't be late."
Someone outside responded, and the whip cracked even faster.
Shi Lan tried hard to open her eyes, but her thin eyelids felt incredibly heavy, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't open them.
Yu Huai seemed to sense her thoughts, and patted her gently twice to comfort her, saying, "Don't worry, the abbot's Buddhist teachings are profound. Ghosts and demons will have nowhere to hide under his Dharma eyes."
Left with no other choice, Shi Lan had to activate the spatial dimension.
Mingxiao responded quickly enough.
Shi Lan briefly explained the situation and asked him what to do now.
Mingxiao was decisive and immediately wanted to take Shilan back.
Shi Lan was extremely anxious. Wouldn't this mean she was giving her body completely to Wang Shi?
Mingxiao asked, "Then what do you want to do?"
Shi Lan frowned and thought for a while before tentatively saying, "How about I leave, and you release the original owner's soul back? That way, everyone will be happy."
Mingxiao was a typical miser; once he got his hands on a soul, he would never let it go. "No, I've already used that soul."
Shi Lan gasped, "How did you use it?"
Mingxiao, the bachelor, said, "I extracted my spiritual consciousness and used my soul power to fill the space."
Shi Lan was speechless; so that's how the fog in the space came about.
Seeing that Shi Lan didn't move, Ming Xiao thought she was angry, so he quickly said, "You know that the master has been away for a while. This space needs spiritual energy or soul power to maintain itself. I have to stay here. There is no other way to replenish the space. What else can we use? Besides, that soul was willing. I didn't force her."
Shi Lan sighed softly and said nothing more.
The carriage slowly came to a stop.
Jiang Yun carried her out of the car.
Soon Shi Lan felt that the surroundings were filled with Buddhist chants, and the sound of a wooden fish vibrating incessantly vibrated her eardrums.
Jiang Yunhuai took two steps back, seemingly talking to someone. Soon someone came up to her, and a warm, large hand gently stroked the top of her head. Shi Lan felt as if the warm sun was shining from head to toe, a feeling that made her feel very comfortable.
Wang cried out in pain and opened her eyes in alarm.
Only then did Shi Lan notice the oil lamps lit around her, illuminating the vast hall. A kind-faced old man stood before her with his hands clasped together, and behind him sat rows of monks in robes, their faces solemn. Each of them had a wooden fish in front of them, and they all struck it in unison with the chanting.
What are you doing?
Wang jumped up and tried to escape.
Jiang Yunhuai grabbed her and pressed her to the spot, then looked up at the old man and asked, "Master, how is it?"
Liao Zhi's expression was somewhat solemn. "The ghost has already merged with this benefactor. This humble monk can only try his best."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yunhuai's murderous intent was immediately apparent, but it dissipated in an instant. In the end, he still couldn't bear to harm Lan'er in the slightest. Even though he knew that the inside had been changed, he just couldn't bring himself to do it when he looked at her face.
"Master, there's another person inside her body. What will happen to that person if she fails?"
This was the first time Liaozhi had encountered such a situation, and he had no experience with it. He could only loudly proclaim a Buddhist chant and say, "Everything depends on fate."
Jiang Yunhuai was clearly not satisfied.
Shi Lan was about to burst into a tirade. What did he mean by "seeing fate"? Just then, seeing the little monk carrying the lamp that had been offered before the Buddha, Shi Lan hurriedly asked Mingxiao.
What are they trying to do?
Mingxiao scoffed, "I guess they'll use the oil lamp that was once touched by the Buddha's light to 'force' her out."
Shi Lan's heart trembled as she watched the little monk pour lamp oil around them, and she questioned him, "Are you sure you 'forced' her out, and didn't burn her into a lump of coal?"
Mingxiao said irresponsibly, "Anyway, your mission is just to kill this body. Burning it to death is the same as dying, so it makes no difference."
If Mingxiao hadn't been out of sight, Shi Lan would have really wanted to rip off all of its fur. "Or you could find a way to let me control my body, and I'll just kill myself to avoid the pain of being burned."
Mingxiao clicked his tongue and said, "That is indeed a solution."
Shi Lan was furious. She was just saying those words out of anger because it wasn't helping her. Who would be so tired of living that they would rush to "commit suicide"?
