Beside the carriage with its curtains hanging low, two men dressed in wide-sleeved robes were engaged in a lively fight, each wielding a sword.
The guards of the Xun family and the Shan family were locked in a stalemate, while the surrounding crowd applauded and cheered. Noble ladies who heard the noise hurriedly got out of their carriages and rushed over, afraid of missing even a moment.
Di gripped the hilt of his sword, staring nervously at Shan Twelve, afraid that he might accidentally injure Xun Eighteen.
Shi Lan frowned, finding their back-and-forth attacks rather boring. She bent down, picked up a small stone, and, seizing the opportunity, threw it directly at Shan Shier's back of the knee.
Shan Shier cried out in surprise and staggered. His hand, which was about to block, paused. As his center of gravity shifted downward, Xun Shiba's longsword pierced into his shoulder socket.
Shan Shier clutched her shoulder, which was bleeding profusely, and screamed. The young men who had been cheering around her turned pale and backed away. Two of them screamed and almost fainted. The guards rushed forward and took their young masters and ladies back to the carriage, comforting them gently.
The gushing blood couldn't be stopped and soaked through the front of his clothes. Shan Shier had lost too much blood and was almost unconscious.
The guards and maids who were serving him rushed forward to lift him up. Someone else took out some medicine that they carried with them, but it was washed away because the blood was flowing too fast.
Xun Shiba's face turned deathly pale. He staggered two steps, trembling all over, and looked around blankly, as if searching for something.
Suddenly, as if he had noticed something, he rushed into the crowd, grabbed Shi Lan who had been exposed as the people in front of him moved away, and said, "Ah Lan, I've gotten into trouble, what should I do?"
Shi Lan wasn't the original owner of this body, but when she saw Xun Shiba in trouble, she was willing to risk her life to save him.
She couldn't be bothered with his affairs; dealing with such a heartless and ungrateful person could easily lead her astray.
Shi Lan impatiently tried to pull her hand away.
Xun Shiba gripped her arm tightly and murmured, "What should I do? My uncle will scold me if he finds out."
Shi Lan frowned and gave him a cold look.
It's amazing he could come up with such a thing. He's injured people so badly. Judging from Shan Shier's injuries, if he's treated properly, his life should be fine, but his arm is definitely gone.
Shan Shier was considered a favorite in the Shan family. If he went back like this, wouldn't the Shan family hold him accountable?
Whether he can even save his own life is another matter, let alone worry about a mere scolding.
Shi Lan was speechless.
Seeing that Xun Shiba's legs were so weak that he was about to kneel down, Di quickly helped him up and said, "Young master, let's talk about it when we get back."
Xun Shiba was led into the carriage by Di as if he had lost his soul.
Shi Lan gently rubbed her arm, which was sore from being pinched, and looked around at the silent carriage, pursing her lips.
The Shan family's carriage sped out of the caravan and drove away along the main road.
In the current situation, although it is a fair fight, Xun Shiba injured Shan Shier. If Shan Shier goes back first and the elders of the Shan family find the Xun family, then even if Xun Shiba has a hundred mouths, he still won't be able to explain himself.
Although they were pleased that Shan Shier was punished, they could not let the Shan family be complacent, otherwise the guards who followed Xun Shiba would also be blamed.
Shi Lan quickly sat on the carriage shaft, called for the guards to follow, and then cracked the whip to urge the carriage back to the city.
The carriage quickly returned to the Xun family home. As soon as he entered, Xun Shiba stumbled out of the carriage and ran back to his residence, Qingyuan, without looking back.
Although Shi Lan had already figured out that Xun Shiba was a coward, she didn't expect him to be this cowardly. He only knew how to run away after causing trouble, and he didn't have the courage to take responsibility at all.
Di Chong caught up from behind and said, "What should we do? If the young master doesn't explain the reason to the patriarch, and the Shan family comes looking for trouble, won't the patriarch use us as an example?"
Shi Lan glanced at him sideways and said, "We didn't cause this trouble, so why are you taking the blame?"
Di hesitated and said, "But in the end, we couldn't stop it..."
Shi Lan curled her lip, "In a fight, swords and blades have no eyes. You and I are just mortals with eyesight, and we don't have divine abilities. Even if we notice something is wrong, it will be too late to stop it."
Di's face showed worry. "That's what you say, but how could the patriarch listen to our explanations?"
Shi Lan said, "Go find Commander Gu and tell him what happened. I'll take them to the patriarch. The patriarch needs to know the whole story so that when the Shan family comes, the patriarch won't be so passive."
Di nodded and walked away briskly.
Shi Lan, accompanied by a large entourage of guards, went to the front yard in a grand procession.
At this moment, Xun Rong, the head of the Xun family, was discussing matters with Xun Wu, who was in charge of family affairs, when he heard a report that the guards who had traveled with Xun Shiba were requesting an audience.
Xun Rong was impatient with the miscellaneous affairs of the manor, and frowned upon hearing this. Xun Wu was entrusted with the affairs of the entire clan by Xun Rong, and his ability to read people's expressions and words had reached a level of perfection. Seeing that Xun Rong was unwilling to deal with it, he quickly smiled and took over the matter, saying that he would find out and report back later.
Xun Rongshu relaxed his brows and nodded in satisfaction.
Xun Wu went out and saw the dozen or so guards kneeling outside. His face immediately turned cold.
"The patriarch is discussing important matters. If you have something to attend to, then leave. If you are disturbing him without a reason, then you must go and receive your punishment."
Shi Lan lowered her eyes and listened to Xun Wu's feigned reprimand, thinking to herself, "If you knew what was going on, you probably wouldn't be in the mood to make us suffer punishment."
At the courtyard gate, Commander Gu rushed over, bypassing the people kneeling on the ground, and quickly came to Xun Wu's side, whispering in his ear about the trouble Xun Shiba had caused.
Xun Wu's face changed color after hearing this.
After a couple of breaths, he asked, "Are the twelve lives on that mountain in any danger?"
