Chapter 312 The Journey to Rescue My Childhood Sweetheart Begins (Part Six)

After a night of reflection, coupled with the intrusion of the original owner's memories, Shi Lan, who was originally a bit oblivious, had almost forgotten the embarrassing incident that happened before going to sleep.

To her surprise, the moment she saw Mo Yun, the soft, gentle words of "I'll make it up to you" from the previous night echoed in her ears again. Shi Lan's back stiffened instantly, and a surge of heat rushed from the soles of her feet to the top of her head. The intense impact made her head throb and dizzy, and she didn't even know where to put her hands and feet.

Seeing her discomfort, Mo Yun couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth. However, he was in a heavy mood today and had no mood for jokes. He just glanced at her and said, "Come and eat. Come with me to Mother's grave later and let her know that you are safe."

Shi Lan nodded, sat down, and silently drank her porridge.

Mo Yun ate quickly; Shi Lan had only drunk half of her drink when Mo Yun had already finished the pancake and porridge.

Seeing this, Shi Lan became very anxious and quickly picked up the bowl and drank it down in big gulps from the rim.

Seeing her like this, Mo Yun worried that she would choke, so she picked up some pickled vegetables and put them in her bowl, gently advising, "Eat slowly. Uncle Wang and Aunt Wang have gone to prepare things. Even if you finish eating now, you have to wait for them to come back."

Shi Lan looked up at him along the rim of the bowl.

When Mo Yun saw her puffed-out cheeks and round eyes looking at him, it was so adorable that his heart, hardened by war and bloodshed, seemed to be gently tapped, making him tremble from the inside out.

Upon hearing this, Shi Lan put down her bowl, picked up her spoon again, scooped the pickled vegetables into the spoon, and slowly drank the soup.

Mo Yun didn't get up, but waited for her to finish drinking in small sips, then picked up a little more and put it over her so she could drink it with that.

This went on for a while, and he himself was unaffected, but Shi Lan was somewhat flattered.

Having traversed so many worlds, from imperial concubines to noble ladies, she has never lacked servants, but they were all maids and servants. This is the first time she has ever experienced such meticulous and considerate care from the Divine Lord.

Shi Lan nibbled on the spoon, looking quite pleased with herself.

Seeing her grinning foolishly, Mo Yun put on a stern face and said, "Eat quickly."

Knowing the gravity of the situation, Shi Lan quickly lowered her head and continued drinking after a moment's thought.

In no time, half a bowl of porridge was gone.

Setting down the spoon, Shi Lan patted her belly contentedly. Just then, Aunt Wang walked in. "Sir, the food is ready."

Mo Yun nodded, and as she stood up, she turned to say, "I am currently observing mourning for my mother. I will ask my superiors to choose someone else for the position of guerrilla general. Aunt Wang, please continue to call me Mo Yun."

Aunt Wang opened her mouth and nodded.

Shi Lan gestured to Aunt Wang and followed Mo Yun into the courtyard.

Since they were going to pay respects to his deceased mother, Mo Yun wanted to say some things to her alone, so he planned to go with only Shi Lan.

Aunt Wang, a woman of many experience, knew that Mo Yun must have something to say to her mother alone after being away from home for so many years. So she didn't mention going along to make arrangements and simply handed over the basket.

Mo Yun reached out and took it, and was about to leave when he heard the door of the east wing be pushed open with a bang, and Zhou Yuxiu rushed out.

"Brother Mo, wait for me."

Mo Yun frowned but did not answer.

Shi Lan raised an eyebrow, genuinely thinking that this girl had something wrong with her brain. Didn't she even think about who she was? What right did she have to burn paper money in front of her mother-in-law?

Zhou Yuxiu walked up quickly, fiddling with her slightly messy hair, and complained, "Aunt Wang, you really are something. Why didn't you call me beforehand? If I go now, I'll only be able to come back for dinner."

Aunt Wang was afraid that Zhou Yuxiu would cause trouble after she woke up, so she was very careful in everything she did this morning. But Zhou Yuxiu still woke up. Aunt Wang was unhappy that all her efforts this morning had been wasted. She glanced at Zhou Yuxiu, who had ruined her plans, snorted, and turned to go back into the house.

Zhou Yuxiu felt that she was also a mistress, and seeing Aunt Wang like this, she glared angrily and said, "Brother Mo, look at her, how could she treat me like this?"

Shi Lan coldly observed her master-like demeanor and sneered inwardly. It seemed that the hunger she suffered last night had not taught her a lesson.

"Yuxiu, we're going to see my mother. What are you going there for?"

Too lazy to waste words with her, Shi Lan cut straight to the chase and retorted.

Zhou Yuxiu blinked, her delicate features giving her a somewhat naive look: "I'm going to see my mother too."

Shi Lan was both amused and exasperated; if the occasion hadn't been inappropriate, she would have burst out laughing.

"Your mother? Did I hear that right?"

Zhou Yuxiu shook her head seriously and said, "Sister-in-law, you heard me right. Yesterday you said we are family. Brother Mo is my brother, so isn't Brother Mo's mother my mother? That's why I'm with you all today, that's right."

Shi Lan nodded and said, "That's mostly true, but little sister, you're so young, how come you can't hear well? What I'm saying is, even if we're family, we're not family."

Shi Lan stepped forward, her gaze intensely fixed on Zhou Yuxiu. "You're probably illiterate and don't know that 'considering' and 'being' are two different concepts. 'Considering' is just something we say, but 'being' requires giving gifts, holding a banquet, and kowtowing. I haven't been with the family for long, only three years, so there are some things I don't know. May I ask, have you given my mother-in-law shoes and socks? Or have you kowtowed to my mother-in-law and called her 'Mother'?"

Zhou Yuxiu was forced back half a step by Shi Lan, her face showing fear. "Sister-in-law, please don't do this, I'm scared."

Shi Lan chuckled softly, "Scared? It's good that you know you're scared. At least it means you haven't lost your mind. In the future, say less things without thinking, or I might not be able to resist hitting you."

Shi Lan gently patted her cheek, her words soft yet cold.

Zhou Yuxiu's face turned pale instantly, and she looked at Mo Yun with pleading eyes.

After spending some time together, Mo Yun's already limited patience with Zhou Yuxiu had reached its limit. At this moment, although he felt that Shi Lan was being somewhat aggressive, he strangely did not want to stop her, and even felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

Shi Lan gave a soft hum, straightened up, straightened her clothes, and turned to smile at Mo Yun.

"Okay, it's alright, let's go."

Mo Yun nodded, ignoring the somewhat pitiful "Brother Mo," and followed Shi Lan out the door.

The Mo family's cemetery is on the mountain at the end of the village. The two climbed up the mountainside in silence. After Shi Lan finished paying her respects with him, she stepped aside to give Mo Yun space to talk to his mother.

Shi Lan sat on a flat boulder, gazing at Mo Yun's back. From here, he did indeed resemble the figure she had seen in the space.

Shi Lan tilted her head, trying hard to recall the world she had experienced. Suddenly, a face she had seen when she first started doing a mission flashed into her mind. Although the face looked somewhat young when she first saw it, it looked seven or eight parts similar to Hao Ze when he grew up.

The strange thing is, why didn't she feel anything was wrong at the time?

Shi Lan couldn't figure it out no matter how hard she tried. She felt that she was terribly oblivious. Perhaps this was what they called being "blinded by one's own involvement"?

Shi Lan shook her head, completely forgetting that at that time she was wary of everyone, especially men. Even when someone helped her, she would thank them with suspicion and then run away.

In the distance, Mo Yun finished speaking to his mother and walked over with an empty bamboo basket. Shi Lan stood up and gave him a warm smile.
