During the busy farming season, farmers have to put aside everything else and focus on farming. My sixth uncle's family was no exception. They would finish farming in ten days.
During this period, Zhou Yuxiu seemed to have learned from her previous mistakes, and she put away her picky habits. Her reclusive lifestyle finally added a touch of girlish gentleness to her appearance.
Mo Yun saw this and, although he didn't say anything, his expression softened considerably.
Shi Lan firmly believed that it was easier to change mountains and rivers than to change one's nature. Instead of relaxing her vigilance, she became more wary of Shi Lan's sudden change in temperament, finding it very strange and wondering what kind of bad idea Shi Lan was up to.
One morning, Shi Lan and Aunt Wang were picking vegetables to prepare lunch when they heard a knock at the door. Shi Lan opened the door and saw Aunt Liu standing by the door, chatting warmly with a lively-looking old woman who smiled before saying a word.
Upon seeing Shi Lan, Aunt Liu pulled her aside and said, "Yun Ya's family, this is Matchmaker Liu. Among all the people in the surrounding area, Matchmaker Liu is the most amiable and capable. I went to great lengths to invite her over for a visit, so you must treat her well."
Shi Lan repeatedly said "of course," and then greeted the two women with a smile, calling them "Matchmaker Liu," before welcoming them inside.
Mo Yun took Uncle Wang to town, leaving only a few women at home. Shi Lan led them directly to the main hall, spoke for a while, and then called Zhou Yuxiu over.
Zhou Yuxiu didn't know what Shi Lan wanted her to do, but she knew that guests had arrived. In order not to be completely overwhelmed by Shi Lan in front of outsiders, she specially changed into a dress she had bought on the way and put on pearl flowers. It seemed that only in this way could she muster up her courage.
Aunt Wang pursed her lips when she saw her outfit, but she knew Shi Lan's plan, so she thought it was fine. From ancient times to the present, matchmakers have only looked at appearance when judging people. If Zhou Yu dressed up well, the matchmaker would only think more highly of her and send her away more quickly.
Lifting the curtain, Aunt Wang gestured for Zhou Yuxiu to go inside.
Zhou Yuxiu glanced at Aunt Wang with suspicion, and heard a somewhat unfamiliar voice.
Stepping inside, I saw two unfamiliar old women. One of them looked me up and down, and her wrinkled face immediately broke into a big smile.
"This old woman has been to many homes, but this girl is one in a hundred when it comes to looks."
Aunt Liu was also carefully observing Zhou Yuxiu. She noticed that Zhou Yuxiu was wearing a cherry-pink long dress and had two hairpins in her hair. She couldn't help but frown.
Mo Yun's family is currently observing mourning. Although she is from a different family and does not need to observe proper etiquette, she is still living with them. It would be inappropriate for her to be dressed so blatantly in red and green.
Aunt Liu shook her head, feeling very unpleasant about Zhou Yuxiu. She also had the idea of getting rid of the girl as soon as possible, and sending her as far away as possible.
Zhou Yuxiu looked around blankly, not understanding what it meant.
Unbeknownst to Liu, she was turning around and patting her chest, boasting to Shi Lan that she would definitely find Yu Xiu a well-off family.
Shi Lan went out of her way to ask Aunt Liu to come to her, all for this reason. Hearing Granny Liu's repeated assurances, Shi Lan smiled extremely brightly.
Granny Liu's voice was not low, and she didn't try to hide her voice from others. After listening for a while, Zhou Yuxiu understood that Shi Lan was trying to find her a husband. Her fair face immediately turned ashen.
"Shi Lan, you..."
Upon hearing her call her by her full name, Shi Lan quickly stood up and said, "Aunt Wang."
Aunt Wang lifted the curtain and came in. Shi Lan pushed Zhou Yuxiu hard, pushing her next to Aunt Wang, and said, "Take Yuxiu back."
Zhou Yuxiu refused to comply and turned to yell at them.
Shi Lan had gone to so much trouble, how could she let her ruin things? She quickly gave Aunt Wang a wink.
Aunt Wang understood immediately and reached out to help Zhou Yuxiu in a seemingly considerate manner, but in reality, she gave her a hard tug.
Zhou Yuxiu hadn't noticed that Aunt Wang had used so much force. Her body was twisted passively, but her feet didn't move. With a faint 'crack' sound, Zhou Yuxiu's face turned pale, she let out a sharp scream, and then slumped softly against Aunt Wang.
Shi Lan was taken aback by this turn of events and quickly stepped forward, asking, "What happened?"
Aunt Wang gripped her shoulders firmly and calmly replied to Shi Lan, "It's nothing. Miss Zhou was turning around too fast and didn't notice she hurt her foot."
Shi Lan...
It's surprising that Zhou Yuxiu, at such a young age, is so clumsy with her arms and legs. She could get injured just by twisting her arm. But getting this result is a small surprise. At least she won't be able to jump around for the time being.
Since the meeting had already taken place and Yuxiu was injured, Shilan asked Aunt Wang to take her home while she went back to entertain the guests.
Aunt Liu seemed to sense Zhou Yuxiu's reluctance. Turning her gaze to the smiling Granny Liu, she had no choice but to swallow her words, thinking she would ask her alone later.
After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Granny Liu tactfully got up and left. Aunt Liu saw Granny Liu off and then quietly returned.
Just as Shi Lan was about to go to the east wing to see Yu Xiu, her sixth aunt mysteriously pulled Shi Lan aside and whispered, "Yun Ya's wife, tell me the truth, does this Yu Xiu not want to get married?"
Shi Lan laughed and said, "Whether she marries or not is not up to her. Even if she is her own flesh and blood, she can't support him for a lifetime, let alone us who are not related."
Shi Lan glanced at her sixth aunt, who seemed hesitant, and continued, "Besides, our house isn't very big. In a couple of years, when the family has grown up and started to have children, how will they live?"
Aunt Liu nodded. Her sister-in-law had always been concerned about not leaving any descendants for the Mo family. Now that Yun Yazi was back, it was time to fulfill her sister-in-law's wish. They couldn't let this little brat delay things.
