Chapter 351 Breaking Through the Corruption of Evil (Part 1)

After an unknown amount of time, Shi Lan groggily opened her eyes.

Ning Yuze gently kissed her and said, "Lan'er, thank you."

This address jolted Shi Lan awake, and she quickly propped herself up on her arms.

"You, you're awake."

Ning Yuze nodded. "Thanks to you."

Shi Lan's face flushed, and she lowered her head in embarrassment. The words she had imagined many times before seemed to vanish from her mind all at once, and she could only murmur, "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be like this. I'm only doing this to make up for my previous mistakes."

Ning Yuze gently brushed the strands of hair from her forehead and said with a faint smile, "It was my oversight, it has nothing to do with Lan'er."

Shi Lan's eyes reddened, and tears welled up instantly.

Even when his life was hanging in the balance, he remained the same, shouldering everything and not wanting to bear any burden himself.

Suddenly, she became annoyed. She wasn't an ignorant child. If something was wrong, she could speak up and everyone could solve it together. Why did they have to keep her in the dark?

Everyone knows, but the feeling of not knowing is truly unpleasant.

Ning Yuze keenly sensed that something was wrong with her mood and quickly lowered his head to ask, "What's wrong?"

The warm scent of a man enveloped her, and Shi Lan pouted and turned her head away, "Nothing."

Ning Yuze was helpless and refused to look at him even once, saying that nothing had happened.

With a faint golden glow emanating from his body, Ning Yuze sighed silently as he released Shi Lan and gestured for his men to drag Zhou Lisha, who had just woken up, over.

Zhou Lisha opened her eyes groggily, and through the haze, she saw the face she had been longing for day and night. She hurriedly struggled to get up.

"Yuze, is that you?"

Zhou Lisha looked delighted and wanted to pounce on her.

Ning Yuze frowned in disgust and reached out.

Someone immediately drew a pistol from their waist and handed it over.

"Yuze, we grew up together, you wouldn't really..." Zhou Lisha looked at the cold, gleaming pistol in horror, and said tremblingly.

Ning Yuze gripped the pistol, aimed it at her forehead, and gently pulled the trigger.

A soft bang interrupted Zhou Lisa's next words.

Blood slowly trickled down her forehead. The man who had been holding her released his grip, and Zhou Lisha collapsed softly to the ground. A hazy light and shadow appeared around her.

"Why?" Guangying's eyes bulged, his whole face contorted into a hideous grimace. "Am I really that unappealing to you? Is she really that good? You've clearly forgotten everything, yet you still chose her."

She reached out to the two of them, whether she wanted to keep them or strangle Shi Lan who always ruined her plans, it was unclear.

Ning Yuze looked at her indifferently, not even wanting to say a word to her. With a flick of his finger, a golden light instantly enveloped the illusory figure, turning her into ashes.

Shi Lan took two steps forward, her mouth slightly agape in astonishment.

Ning Yuze turned around and lovingly stroked her face. He took out a box from his pocket, removed the ring, and whispered, "Lan'er, will you marry me?"

Shi Lan couldn't quite put her finger on what she was feeling. So, was he going to prepare for this when he left earlier?

Ning Yuze gently embraced her and lifted her hand.

Shi Lan's face flushed. She had only agreed to the marriage in order to awaken Ning Yuze's consciousness. Now that the matter was settled, she could have refused. However, looking at his eager eyes and longing expression, her heart pounded and her palms sweated profusely.

Seeing that she didn't object, Ning Yuze slipped the ring onto her finger, pressed his head against her forehead, and whispered, "I'm sorry, I can't give you a grand wedding."

Shi Lan shook her head slightly, put her hand around his waist, and said, "This is good."

Ning Yuze smiled gently, and his body slowly, gradually transformed from solid to ethereal, turning into specks of golden light that converged into a stream of light and disappeared into the sky.

Shi Lan maintained her posture, regardless of the changing scenery around her.

After a while, she stiffly withdrew her arm, raised her hand, and found it empty.

A hazy, unsettling noise surrounded me, and icy water enveloped my mouth and nose. My body felt like a heavy stone, constantly falling downwards.

Shi Lan panicked and quickly opened her eyes, only to find herself in a pool of water, falling downwards.

Shi Lan hurriedly waded through the water, swinging her arms in an attempt to float to the surface. However, her clothes were soaked with water and extremely heavy. Despite her efforts for a while, she could only stop her descent. There was virtually no chance of her getting up.

Shi Lan looked at the ripples that were constantly spreading above with a sense of frustration.

She can't be that unlucky, dying like this so soon after arriving.

When she came in, Mingxiao didn't explain, so we don't know if she died here and if so, whether she was truly dead.

In an instant, Shi Lan thought of many things: herself, Haoze whose life hung by a thread, and the warmth that still lingered in her heart after what had happened before.

As the air in her lungs dwindled, the feeling of suffocation made her vision blur and her mind go blank.

Shi Lan kicked her legs with all her might, trying one last gamble, but her body was simply too weak. Even with all her strength, she could only float up half a foot before slowly falling back down.

The pain in her chest gradually subsided, and her eyelids grew heavier. Shi Lan struggled, but still closed her eyes unwillingly.

All around was silent, but a black light kept flickering in my mind. My brain cells, which should have been in deep sleep, were stirred up to be extremely active. My chest was suddenly held tightly by a strong arm, and my body swayed back and forth with the person behind me. My back was pressed against a warm chest, and water flowed through it from time to time, making the warmth intermittent.

Shi Lan dazedly swung her arms, letting the person behind her drag her upwards with a powerful leap.

Fresh air instantly filled her mouth and nose. Shi Lan opened her mouth and breathed deeply, completely ignoring the shouts and cries of the women on the shore.

Someone reached out and pulled her ashore. Shi Lan lay there awkwardly, coughing for a while and spitting out water. Ignoring her discomfort, she quickly turned to look for the person who had saved her.

The surroundings were empty, except for a girl dressed as a maid, her face streaked with tears, supporting herself and occasionally stroking her back with concern, trying to make her feel more comfortable as she coughed.

"Miss, Miss, how are you?" The maid, her eyes red from crying, took off her jacket and draped it over Shi Lan, trying to help her up.

Shi Lan nodded dazedly, rolled her eyes, and whispered, "Who saved me?"

The maid wiped away her tears and whispered, "It's the heir of the Marquis of Changqing..."

Shi Lan nodded, knowing who it was was good, so she could find the person.

As the maid helped her to leave, two old women appeared out of nowhere, curtsied, and said, "Miss, you've been frightened. Madam invites Miss Shi to rest in the side room."

Shi Lan glanced at the old woman, then at the maid who was glaring at the old woman with such anger that her hands were trembling, and nodded.

She definitely needs a place to take care of herself right now.

The old woman led the two to a nearby courtyard, ordered someone to boil water, and then went to fetch clothes.

Shi Lan took a bath and changed her clothes again. As soon as she came out, she saw a woman with a beautiful face and adorned with pearls and jade in her hair, accompanied by a maid and servants, rushing over. Upon seeing her, the woman looked her up and down. Seeing that Shi Lan looked alright, she breathed a sigh of relief without making it obvious. She immediately ordered her people to get ready and took Shi Lan away.
