Chapter 357 Breaking Through the Corruption of Evil (Part 7)

The doctor was quickly summoned. Zhu Xian knew that Madam Qian had ordered someone to invite Dr. Leng from Baoan Hall, who was most skilled in women's diseases, especially in preventing miscarriages. He didn't care that he was still angry and rushed over.

After Doctor Leng carefully examined him, Zhu Xian asked, "How is it?"

Doctor Leng pondered for a moment, glancing at Zhu Xianxi's expectant gaze, and said carefully, "Madam is suffering from qi stagnation affecting her heart; she will be fine after a while."

The implication is that nothing really happened, just a little angry, and making trouble out of nothing.

Upon hearing this, Madam Qian abruptly threw back the curtain and said coldly, "Impossible! I have an upset stomach and I've been vomiting bile. This is clearly..."

Her voice trailed off as she spoke, because Zhu Xian's gaze was like a sharp arrow hurtling towards her.

Granny Ruan was quick-witted and immediately pulled the curtain down.

Zhu Xian gave Dr. Leng an awkward smile. Dr. Leng had seen many cases of people who suspected they were pregnant but then became emotionally unstable after finding out they weren't, so he didn't mind. He cupped his hands in greeting to Zhu Xian and left with his medicine box on his back.

Zhu Xianchao gave a wink, and someone prepared the silver and delivered it to Doctor Leng.

Granny Ruan helped Madam Qian sit down and tiptoed outside, whispering, "Please forgive me, Your Highness. Madam was just too anxious and lost her composure for a moment."

Because of what had happened before, Zhu Xian's spirits had been dampened. In addition, the hope that he had already given up on was shattered again when Qian brought it up, making Zhu Xian feel worse than ever before.

This only made Zhu Xian even angrier, instead of calming him down, as Ruan Mama's persuasion did not appease him.

With a cold flick of his sleeve, Zhu Xian scolded, "You're really clueless." He turned to the inside and said, "Don't think you can get away with this. You'd better go and apologize properly first thing tomorrow morning. If you mess this up, see how I deal with you."

After saying that, he pushed Granny Ruan aside without any hesitation and strode away.

Madam Qian sat crookedly on the couch, angrily pounding the table.

She's been married for over ten years, doesn't she want to have children? But ever since that miscarriage, she hasn't been able to conceive again, what can she do?

Qian snorted coldly.

Besides, it's not like she's the only one who can't get pregnant; which of the other concubines in the mansion has gotten pregnant?

When Granny Ruan came in, she saw that the girl's fingers had already turned red from drooping. She quickly pressed them down and whispered, "We need to smooth things over with the Earl's Mansion as soon as possible. Miss is really being a bit willful. The Marquis is only suspicious right now. If we delay any longer and anger the Earl's Mansion, the Marquis will probably be unhappy too."

Madam Qian wiped her eyes and sneered, "It's just a dilapidated mansion, what trouble can it cause? Sending a steward over to apologize is enough, there's no need for me to go in person."

Granny Ruan sighed inwardly. She knew exactly what had happened back then, but since it involved her cousin and nothing serious had happened, and the cousin had just joked around, the madam let it go. Actually, she should have sent someone respectable to apologize back then, but the madam had been living too comfortably these past few years. She didn't have her mother-in-law to keep her in check, nor did she have her sister-in-law to bother her. Most of the people she associated with were nobles of similar rank or families of officials of equal or lower rank than the Marquis's family. There were some things that she wouldn't have thought of herself without someone pointing them out.

I wanted to offer some advice, but due to my status, my wife insisted on doing things her own way, and there was nothing I could do about it.

The turmoil in the main courtyard subsided almost immediately, and Madam Qian thought the matter was over without a trace, unaware that someone had already quietly left.

In the Beining Garden on the other side of the Marquis's residence, Zhu Yi looked at the maidservant bowing below him with a detached expression.

"So, Madam is not pregnant?"

The maid nodded and said, "The Marquis is very angry and has now gone to Liuxiang Courtyard."

Zhu Yi curled her lip in a sarcastic tone, "I understand, you can leave now."

The maid curtsied and quietly slipped out.

The brocade curtain swayed for a moment, and someone came out from the side room, poured himself a cup of tea, sat down next to Zhu Yi, and began to drink it by himself. The warm sunset glow shone through the window lattice, reflecting his clear and handsome features, giving him an almost unreal beauty.

Zhu Yi was probably used to it by now. She just glanced at him and asked indifferently, "Why haven't you left yet?"

The man chuckled and said, "I heard the 'medicine' didn't work. You need to hear definite news, don't you?"

Zhu Yi had no choice but to agree.

The man leaned to one side, toying with his teacup, and said, "Mrs. Qian is really obsessed with having a child. She just didn't eat properly, and she's already making up that she's pregnant."

Upon hearing the man mention the Qian family, Zhu Yi frowned in disgust.

The man knew that he was thinking about the time when Madam Qian came to his door while heavily pregnant, which angered his ailing aunt so much that she passed away. So he said, "Speaking of which, when you saved her back then, did no one really see it? How come everything is so calm now?"

Hearing him mention that time, Zhu Yi's heart suddenly trembled, and the feeling of that time seemed to reappear in her hands, and Zhu Yi's body suddenly felt warm.

He awkwardly straightened his back, but was a little worried about being seen by that person.

To cover up the odd behavior, Zhu Yi glanced sideways and said, "I went down, it was you who pushed me." Seeing the man's guilty smile, he added, "Once you're in the water, your field of vision is limited. I was busy rescuing people, how would I know if anyone saw me?"

The man pursed his lips and said, "Don't worry, even if someone sees it, it doesn't matter. With Qian Zhiqing around, she won't spread the word about you interacting with other girls, even if it's for her own sake."

Mentioning Qian Zhiqing, Zhu Yi's brows relaxed slightly, and his voice softened a little, "Don't talk nonsense. Zhiqing and I are just siblings. Aren't you ruining her reputation by saying such things?"

The man sneered, "What kind of reputation do you have for your sister? She's more ruthless than most men. Besides, you claim to be siblings, but are you even related by blood? Are you sure she shares your sentiments?"
