Chapter 4 The Confusion of an Insignificant Person (Part 4)

"Hehe, hello, Lei Sheng," Shi Lan grinned dryly twice, then turned and walked towards the teaching building.

Lei Sheng followed closely beside her, a question on his face. "What's your name?"

Shi Lan glanced at him but did not answer. She was just a passerby here. She could leave at any time after completing her mission. She did not want to make any friends here. Without interaction, there would be no feelings, so that she would not feel reluctant when she left.

She quickly walked up to the second floor, turning left and right to avoid Lei Sheng, and arrived at the classroom door. Before she even went in, she heard a girl crying her heart out coming from the next classroom. It was Liu Ru's voice; she had just heard it before and was sure she wouldn't mistake her.

At this moment, Liu Ru was no longer as domineering as before. Her voice was sorrowful and mournful, like the lament of a fledgling bird, followed by the boy's icy rebuke.

"Liu Ru, stop harassing Lin Qing. I hope you can recognize your place and stop talking nonsense to others. Also, thank you for reminding me of Lin Qing's background, which shows me how she managed to remain untainted by the mud," Han Guangye said, his disgust evident in his words.

When Liu Ru heard him say that, her crying paused for a moment, then resumed.

Shi Lan couldn't help but tilt her head, trying to see through the layers of dark brain to see what was inside, when a soft, delicate voice came from inside.

"Guangye, don't be angry. Liu Ru was just acting on impulse. I think she won't do it again. Please don't hold it against her. After all, your two families are old friends. It wouldn't be good to ruin things over me."

Although she didn't see the person, Shi Lan was certain that it was Lin Qing.

It was clearly she who instigated Han Guangye to disregard the friendship between the Han and Liu families and verbally abuse Liu Ru. Even though she had the upper hand, she pretended to be kind and offered feigned advice. Liu Ru, already spoiled, naturally wanted revenge after being provoked like this. What could be more satisfying than seeing Han Guangye see the girl he liked humiliated in public? That's probably why Liu Ru thought of drugging him.

Lin Qing's actions were unlike those of a naive fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl. Her provocations were clumsy and poorly executed, resembling the tactics of a woman from a humble background who had mingled at the very bottom of society.

Shi Lan slowly walked back to her seat, opened her book, and looked down, recalling every scene since she met Lin Qing. Finally, she focused on the cold glint in Lin Qing's eyes when she was humiliated by Liu Ru. Suddenly, a thought struck her and she had a certain guess.

Perhaps her relentless pursuit of Liu Ru stemmed from Liu Ru inadvertently revealing the identity she loathed most. If so, then the current Lin Qing is no longer the one who formed a friendship with the original owner. It must be some wandering ghost possessing her body, which is why her personality has changed so drastically.

Shi Lan thought this way because she could empathize with others. She could possess the body of the original owner to fulfill her wishes because of the original owner's resentment. Naturally, someone else could also use other means to occupy another person's body to achieve their own goals.

Thinking that Lin Qing had switched bodies, Shi Lan's expression hardened. If it was really as she thought, then the original owner's cause of death was probably not so simple.

Lin Qing was determined to have Han Guangye. If she knew that the child the original owner was carrying was Han Guangye's, then the most likely thing she would do was to make the child disappear. When the original owner was hit by the bicycle, she only had some scratches and bruises. Her real cause of death was the massive bleeding caused by the accident.

Normally, if a bicycle hits someone, the rider would get off to check on them. After all, bicycles don't go as fast as cars, and a minor collision isn't a big deal. At most, the rider would pay some medical expenses and that would be it. But that person was strange. After violently hitting the original owner, he didn't even get off the bicycle and just rode away. How could Shi Lan not be suspicious of this behavior?

The noise from the next class stopped when the bell rang for evening self-study. Lin Qing walked into the classroom with red eyes, sat shyly next to Shi Lan, and took out her textbook.

Shi Lan frowned slightly as she looked at Lin Qing, who was as delicate and timid as a white lotus flower, and a sense of urgency suddenly rose in her heart.

Finally, the bell rang, and Shi Lan packed her schoolbag and was the first to rush out of the classroom.

It was already dark outside, but fortunately the streetlights were bright. Shi Lan jogged all the way home and opened the door to see Shi Hongmei holding a phone and talking to someone.

In an instant, Shi Lan felt a surge of heat in her chest, and a torrent of emotions crashed over her like waves.

Shi Lan blinked away the tears in her eyes, took a couple of deep breaths to calm herself down, and then, with a smile, took off her shoes and went inside.

"Mom, I'm home."

Hearing the greeting, Shi Hongmei glanced up at her, then covered the microphone with her hand and pointed to the kitchen, "I bought you some fried chicken, go eat some before you go to sleep."

Shi Lan's heart was churning like a boiled dumpling. After a few seconds, she said in a hoarse voice, "I know, Mom. Go to sleep early when you're done with your work."

Shi Hongmei nodded haphazardly and buried her head to continue her phone call.

Shi Lan washed her hands, walked to the dining table, and opened the whole chicken that was tightly wrapped in oil paper. This was the original owner's favorite food, without exception.

Shi Lan tore off a piece near the chicken breast, mimicking the way the original owner of the body did in her memory, tearing it off piece by piece, and then slowly eating it. When Shi Hongmei finished her phone call and came over to see her doing the same thing as when she was a child, she laughed.

“Your Uncle Li said you’ve grown up today, but I think he was just flattering you for nothing. You’re still the same as when you were a child,” Shi Hongmei said, taking a glass of milk from the refrigerator and handing it to Shi Lan.

"This is salty, have some milk."

Shi Lan took the milk, took a big gulp, and then grinned foolishly at Shi Hongmei with a white ring around her mouth.

Shi Hongmei couldn't help but laugh. She took out a tissue and wiped her clean, saying affectionately, "You're such a smudged cat."

Shi Lan could truly feel Shi Hongmei's maternal love for the original owner. Although she was very busy, she had done her best to be good to the child.
