Upon hearing this, Shi Lan gave a cold laugh. "Aunt Yuan is quite the smooth talker. How big is the Zhu family's courtyard? Running around like this, the thief isn't stupid. If he didn't run away after being caught, would he wait for you to catch him?" Shi Lan rose from the bedside and slowly approached Wang Yuan. "Just now, before I even got up, Tan Yue stopped me to protect my reputation. My husband is a man, and his actions are driven by righteousness; it's understandable that he might not have thought of it at first. But you are a woman. What consequences would it have to have your reputation ruined? Don't you think about that? Are you perhaps trying to ruin my reputation so you can take over?"
Shi Lan's accusations could be serious or minor. If they reach Zhu Boyan's ears, Wang Yuan will be severely punished, if not killed.
Wang Yuan's face immediately paled, and she unconsciously took half a step back. Realizing that she had shown weakness, she quickly straightened her back to make amends. "What are you saying, sister? I was just worried about your safety and afraid that the thief might hurt you. I acted rashly in a moment of panic. Please forgive me, sister."
As soon as she finished speaking, Wang Yuan felt a fire burning inside her. This was the first time she had bowed her head to Shi Lan since coming to the Zhu family, and this feeling was really hard to bear.
Shi Lan merely glanced at her with cold disdain at her show of weakness, then turned around and calmly sat down on the cushioned stool. "Enough with the idle talk. Since you want to search, then hurry up, lest you fail to catch the thief and then blame me."
Wang Yuan forced a smile and said, "How could that be? This is just routine. We trust your character, sister."
Shi Lan gave her a cold look and didn't say a word.
Under her silent, cold gaze, Wang Yuan felt immense pressure. She wanted to leave the ornately decorated house, but felt it would be too humiliating. Helpless, she could only quickly flip through the pages to check the matter.
