Chapter 107 The Honest Older Brother in the Historical Fiction 17

Upon hearing Chen Ke's words, Chen Yu's eyes instantly reddened, and she choked out, "Thank you, brother... Let's share this steamed bun!" With that, she divided the steamed bun in half.

Chen Ke replied, "I've already eaten, you can eat."

"Then...then I'll eat with my second brother." Chen Yu pretended not to hear Chen Ke's words, "I bought it for you."

Chen Zhi immediately retorted, "I'm not eating, I'm already full, you eat by yourself." After saying that, he picked up the bowl and went out, afraid that if he inhaled the sweet aroma a few more times, he would lose his backbone and agree.

"...Second Brother!"

Seeing this, Chen Ke didn't say anything and turned back into the house. It seems that Chen Zhi is not beyond saving; he still has some backbone, but he still needs more training.

Chen Zhi didn't eat, and neither did Chen Yu finish the steamed bun; they only ate a small portion to satisfy their cravings.

Looking at the remaining steamed buns, Chen Yu would have eaten them all without hesitation in the past, but now she felt much happier and more content eating them with her older brothers than eating them alone.

The next morning, because Chen Zhi had to go to work, Chen Yu also got up early. First, she cooked a pot of thick corn porridge, and then fried the leftover steamed buns from last night with some oil.

Chen Zhi smelled the aroma from his bed. He groggily opened his eyes and saw the porridge and fried buns on the table. He immediately jumped out of bed, looking incredulous. "The porridge is so thick! Are you crazy? We'll run out of food if we finish this!"

Chen Yu set out the chopsticks. "Big brother isn't working today, so he should be eating at home."

Chen Zhi pursed his lips and muttered, "Oh, no wonder. I was wondering why it would be so grand even on my first day of work. Turns out it's because my older brother is having dinner at home."

Chen Yu remained silent.

After washing up, the two sat upright at the table. Chen Zhi looked at the fried buns in the middle of the table and silently swallowed his saliva, secretly reminding himself that he might not reach for them with his chopsticks later.

As soon as Chen Ke got up and came out, Chen Yu immediately greeted him, "Big brother, I've made breakfast, let's eat together." She then looked at Chen Ke expectantly.

Chen Ke glanced at the three bowls of porridge on the table. "You guys eat. I have to go out today."

Chen Yu's disappointment was visible to the naked eye.

Chen Ke: "...I'll be back for dinner tonight."

"Really? Okay, then I'll make the porridge thicker tonight, and stir-fry the pickled vegetables with plenty of oil." Chen Yu immediately perked up and started planning what to eat for dinner.

Chen Zhi was incredibly jealous. After Chen Ke left, he snorted twice, "With your flattery skills, if the Qing Dynasty hadn't fallen, you could have easily become a head maid in the palace."

"I'm telling you, Second Brother, instead of going to school, shouldn't you be learning gossip? With your sarcastic tone, you could at least become a high-ranking official!"

"Hey you little brat, you dare talk back to your second brother, huh?"

"Eat quickly, aren't you supposed to go and empty the sewage?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Zhi deflated instantly, picked up the bowl, and drank a large mouthful of the porridge.

"Eat a piece of steamed bun, otherwise you won't have the energy later."

Chen Yu did not expect that Chen Zhi would really show backbone this time. He said he would not eat and then left after finishing the porridge in a few big bites.

Chen Ke left home not too late, and arrived at the Nanjing University faculty building around 10 o'clock. However, he did not expect that Jiang Dianwen had already been sitting at the entrance showing off to other professors for quite a while.

"Let me tell you, that student is really talented. His theoretical knowledge is so solid that it doesn't seem like he hasn't been to university. Oh, maybe even the students at Nanjing University can't compare to his solid knowledge."

The people sitting here chatting are all retired or soon-to-be-retired professors. Their greatest pleasure is talking about their students. If a professor has a talented student or a student has achieved something, they will show it off. They were all very interested after hearing Jiang Dianwen's words.

"Professor Jiang, you can't just make this up. Can a genius really emerge from a night school?"

“I don’t know if he’s a genius in other areas, but he’s definitely a genius in mechanics,” Jiang Dianwen said with certainty.

"Then we'll have to see just how ingenious this method is later."

"He only attended junior high school, and all his knowledge of mechanics was self-taught..."

Several professors from different disciplines sat together and chatted with great interest.

As soon as Chen Ke entered the gate, he saw Jiang Dianwen, who was still relatively young, sitting in the crowd. "Teacher Jiang," Chen Ke said, walking over quickly.

Jiang Dianwen was speaking enthusiastically when he heard the voice and immediately stood up and turned around, "Hey, Chen Ke is here."

Chen Ke walked over and smiled politely, "Teacher Jiang, what's this?"

"Oh, I was thinking you might not be able to find the place since it's your first time here. Let's chat here and wait for you. These are all professors from Nanjing University."

Chen Ke was surprised that Jiang Dianwen would come out to wait for him in person, and quickly thanked him, "Thank you, Professor Jiang, for your trouble." He then nodded and greeted each of the senior professors present.

"Alright, enough with the greetings to us old folks. Let's go, Professor Jiang, shall we go and witness this together? It's rare to have some free time to get together, let's all go together," suggested Professor Yang, the physics professor.

Although these professors are nominally retired, they are not completely idle.

Some of them serve as visiting professors at the school and occasionally give lectures, while others lead their own research projects with students. They usually come here to sit for a while when they have free time, chat, and then go back to their own business. But today, Jiang Dianwen's words piqued their interest, and they all wanted to go and take a look.

So they all stood up and said, "Okay, let's all go take a look."

"Let's go then. To be honest, I've never met a genius in my life."

Jiang Dianwen was delighted and wished everyone could see it, but he was worried that Chen Ke would be nervous.

"Is everything alright, Chen Ke? I told the professors that you have a lot of talent in mechanical engineering, and they all want to see you. Are you nervous?"

Chen Ke remained calm even when surrounded by tens of thousands of people, so he was naturally fine with just a few people around. "It's okay, I'm fine."

Upon hearing Chen Ke's reply, Jiang Dianwen laughed heartily, "Then let's go."

When Chen Ke arrived at Jiang Dianwen's house with a group of professors, he found that seven or eight students were already sitting inside.

"These are the people who came today to discuss their entries. Could you all help me take a look and see where improvements are needed?" Jiang Dianwen said to the professors behind him.

One of the professors, Professor Zeng, from the Department of Electronic Communications, waved his hand and said, "No way, you're trying to make us do hard labor."

Upon seeing this, several students stood up abruptly, looking somewhat bewildered at the group of school bigwigs. Then, they suddenly realized what was happening and bowed in unison, greeting them loudly, "Hello, professors!"

The voices were clear and loud, startling the elderly professors.

"Hey, all of you, sit down quickly. As expected of Dianwen's students, you're full of energy, hehehe, so energetic." The oldest of them, the mathematics professor, said, patting his heart.
