"Husband! Husband!"
Rebershuu suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze clear. "What's wrong?"
Yang Xue pointed out the window with a shocked expression, "I, I just saw someone flying in the sky!"
Knowing that his wife was not one to joke around, Rebersch immediately got up and went to her side, looking in the direction she was pointing.
"We can't see him anymore. He was incredibly fast. He jumped from one rooftop to another and disappeared."
"Look closely, is it really a person?"
Yang Xue nodded with absolute certainty, "It's definitely a person."
Reberxius's gaze fell on the rooftop in the distance. It was a building of over thirty stories, and the distance between the two buildings was at least several hundred meters. If his wife's eyes were not mistaken, it was indeed a person, and that person was truly flying.
But the ability to fly is unheard of.
"Xue'er, let's go back to the safe zone immediately."
Yang Xue asked in surprise, "Now? Have you fully recovered? It's not easy to cross the inner city at night now."
“Just be careful. We must tell Dr. L about this immediately. If someone really can fly…” Rebershuu’s words were cut short, his face heavy with thought.
"Okay, I'll get ready right away."
Yang Xue put out the fire, quickly packed her things together, and went downstairs with Reberxius.
The two carefully drove into the inner city. To avoid attracting the attention of the zombies, they didn't even turn on the headlights. The car had been specially modified by Dr. L, equipped with night vision devices, and was very quiet when driving.
"Honey, don't you think the inner city seems a little strange?"
"Hmm, the streets seem to have been cleared, and there seem to be far fewer zombies than before."
"Could what you're saying be related to that person from earlier?" Yang Xue couldn't help but wonder. If it was true, could this person be even more powerful than her husband?
"I don't know, it's possible."
With few obstacles on the street, Rebershuu sped up his pace, running over zombies as he went.
When the car drove safely to the northern suburbs of the city, Reberxius finally relaxed, but his worries only deepened.
Something was definitely amiss. Their journey had been far too smooth; they hadn't even encountered any large hordes of zombies.
Keep in mind that this is nighttime, when zombies are most active. In the past, during the day, they would be entangled by zombies and fight fiercely before they could escape when passing through the inner city. But now, they were able to come out unimpeded at night.
"Honey, honey, look! There are several people being attacked by zombies over there!"
Looking over, Reberxiu realized that it would be more accurate to say that the people were being chased by zombies rather than surrounded by them.
Several ragged people, who looked like refugees, ran forward desperately, pursued by three or four hundred zombies.
This scene was already eerie enough, because in this situation, zombies would keep gathering around, and the person trying to escape would easily be surrounded. However, the scattered zombies not only remained unmoved, but also staggered away.
What made Rebershuu's scalp tingle even more was that he discovered that the group of zombies chasing them would scatter and rush back after they realized that the fleeing people had gone astray, and the direction they were rushing towards was—the north exit of the city.
"Hold on tight, I'm going to speed things up." Reberxiu didn't know what these zombies' purpose was, but this phenomenon posed a great threat to the safe base from any perspective.
The people fleeing the disaster suddenly heard a very faint car engine sound from the side. Turning their heads, they saw a strangely shaped car that was almost blending into the night speeding toward the exit.
Overjoyed, the crowd immediately shouted for help, "Stop the car! Stop the car! Help!"
"Help! Stop the car, please!"
But no matter how much the crowd shouted and waved, the car showed no sign of stopping; instead, it sped away without hesitation.
"Honey, do you think they can escape to a safe base?" Yang Xue asked softly, looking at the people still frantically waving and shouting behind the car.
Rebershuu said expressionlessly, "Whether they escape to the safe zone or not is their fate. Besides, what good will escaping to the safe zone do? It's not necessarily better than living outside."
Yang Xue also thought of the people in the refugee camp outside the safe zone. They had once fled thousands of miles with hope, but what about now? Not only were they living in overcrowded refugee camps, but they also had to risk their lives to follow scavenging teams to find supplies in order to survive.
In this world, only the strong can thrive.
Only when they could no longer see the car or hear any sound did the group finally give up calling for help and then run desperately toward the exit.
An hour later, the group finally reached the exit, exhausted. But there was only a lonely tollbooth; there was no sign of the government base they had heard of.
Looking back at the zombies chasing after them with their mouths wide open, the group wailed and fell into despair.
"Aaaaaah! Heaven is going to kill me!"
"Hehehe, I can't run anymore. So be it, I really can't run anymore."
"If I'd known, I would have just jumped off the building and died. I ran for so long, only to die at the exit. Isn't that ironic? Hahaha... What kind of apocalypse is this! I'm not going to live anymore!" After saying that, the man lay down on the ground, looking like he was ready to be devoured by the zombies.
The group collapsed to the ground, giving up the fight. They had expected the zombies to excitedly chase after them and feast on them, but for some reason, the zombies suddenly stopped running and began to wander around.
"Is this place protected by a powerful barrier, so the zombies dare not come over?" someone asked in a trembling voice.
"Is it...possible?"
"Whether it's possible or not, we should leave here as soon as possible and ask others at the safe base."
"Yes, yes, maybe we're just lucky."
The group scrambled and crawled towards the safe zone, gritting their teeth, but this time they didn't have to run for their lives and could catch their breath.
At the south entrance of the city, Chen Ke used paint to write four words on a huge billboard: "No Entry".
The bright red color is eye-catching and intimidating, so that anyone trying to escape won't miss it.
After finishing this, Chen Ke began to search the city himself. He could drive away ordinary zombies, but he probably couldn't handle the zombie minions of evolved humans with superpowers.
Chen Ke was very fast; he searched the entire southern part of the city in half an hour. Then he narrowed down the search area and finally found two evolved individuals in a prison, where they were cooking something to eat.
Chen Ke originally planned to knock the men unconscious and throw them out of the city, but when he saw what was being cooked in the pot, his expression changed, and he pierced both of their heads with a steel pipe!
With a loud "bang!", blood and brains splattered all over the ground. The two men died without even seeing who killed them.
Chen Ke frowned as he looked at the steaming "food" in the pot.
"brute!"
Judging from the hands and feet, it's very likely a seven or eight-year-old child!
