"Chen Zhuo," Chen Ke called out to him.
Chen Zhuo seemed to snap out of his daze and trembled, but as if he had anticipated something, he suddenly began to chop vegetables with utmost seriousness. "Hmm, there's only one more dish to go. You can sit and wait a moment."
"Don't cut it yet, I have something to tell you."
"What are you talking about? Let me finish cooking first." After saying that, she continued chopping vegetables without stopping.
Chen Ke sighed, turned around and left.
The sound of chopping vegetables was loud and jarring, but the soft sigh seemed to pierce Chen Zhuo's ears like the sound of a drum.
Chen Ke understood.
Chen Ke understood.
Chen Zhuo's mind was in complete chaos, and only this sentence kept repeating to himself.
Just thinking about Chen Ke's reaction—would it be disgust, anger, or rage?—made Chen Zhuo feel as if he were drowning in a bottomless abyss, barely able to breathe.
He had been carefully hiding, disguising himself, and secretly coveting the place, but now that he had been exposed, it was as if the apostle of darkness had dared to covet the angel of light and then been discovered by the angel. He was terrified and anxious because he was about to face the angel's judgment.
The knife in his hand fell unconsciously, a sharp pain shot through the back of his hand, and bright red blood spread and stained the area. Chen Zhuo breathed a sigh of relief, and even had the idea of using the knife to make the cut bigger.
I always felt that this wound would allow Chen Ke to postpone what he wanted to say.
"What happened?!" Not hearing any sound, Chen Ke assumed Chen Zhuo had finished his work and was about to come in to talk, but he immediately saw that the hand was covered in blood, and the owner of the hand was still staring blankly with lifeless eyes!
"Oh, it's nothing, I just accidentally cut myself."
"How could you accidentally cut such a big gash?" Chen Ke pulled Chen Zhuo upstairs.
So this is the downside of highly developed star systems. Where Chen Zhuo lived, this cut would have to be carefully disinfected, treated, and bandaged. But here, Chen Ke placed the back of his hand under the treatment device, and after a soft halo of light, the finger-length cut healed instantly.
Therefore, seeing Chen Ke's solemn expression, Chen Zhuo also felt panicked and heavy-hearted.
He knew he couldn't delay any longer.
The trial will eventually come.
Chen Zhuo never considered himself a cowardly or indecisive person, but ever since he realized what his true feelings for Chen Ke were, he had become extremely weak-willed. Just like now, he didn't even dare to entertain the idea that Chen Ke might reciprocate his feelings.
Because he feared that once he had such a fantasy, he would lose control of his greed and crave more, not only in his imagination but also in reality.
If Chen Ke were to shatter this illusion himself, who knows what crazy things he might do.

"Your brother..."
But what's meant to happen will happen eventually. Chen Zhuo lowered his head, his facial features except for his ears seemed to be blocked, and he could only hear Chen Ke's voice, slowly saying the name of the "Chen Ke" that he had killed.
How could Chen Zhuo allow someone like him to be his brother? If he hadn't been hoping that Chen Ke could return to that body, would he have allowed him to live in that body for so long?
After Chen Ke finished speaking, he looked at Chen Zhuo and asked, "I heard that you tore his soul to pieces?"
"That's the end he deserved." Chen Zhuo said this with a look of disgust, as if the original owner's soul had dissipated and he could still feel disgusted by it.
Upon seeing this, Chen Ke's heart involuntarily tightened, and a subtle, throbbing pain spread through his heart.
Recalling the video the bureau chief had just sent him, the original owner of this body was frantically cursing Chen Zhuo in the moments before he was killed: "Chen Zhuo, you're a worthless bastard! You actually coveted your own brother, hahaha, you scum, you're a disgusting scum! You'll die a horrible death, you'll never have him in your life, hahaha, as long as he returns to this body, you'll be blood brothers, unless you want the world to hate and curse you both, you can never be together!"
When Chen Zhuo finished speaking, the self-loathing and pained expression on his face stung Chen Ke's eyes. The arrogance of the arrogant and ruthless boy he had met at first seemed to be completely crushed at that moment. Something in his eyes was cracking inch by inch. He was about to be trampled into the mud because of his feelings.
No matter the situation, Chen Zhuo always had a wicked and threatening demeanor. Even after he matured, he still held great power and was high and mighty. Chen Ke had never seen Chen Zhuo like this before. He was as fragile as a piece of broken metal that had just been pieced together, and would shatter at the slightest touch.
Chen Zhuo had no idea that Chen Ke was feeling incredibly guilty and heartbroken for him. His lowered eyelashes trembled, and he seemed frozen in place, lifeless, as if silently resisting the impending verdict, or like a condemned prisoner waiting to be executed, without any struggle, just waiting for Chen Ke, the executioner, to finally bring down the knife in his hand.
"Chen Zhuo, do you... like me?"
Finally, Chen Zhuo heard those words.
His eyes flickered; those words were like a medicine that could determine his fate after his reply.
If Chen Ken can respond to him, he can live.
Chen Ke hated and rejected him, so he fell into the deepest abyss, just as his brother had cursed him to die a horrible death.
So he nodded slightly.
He remained bowed, awaiting the verdict, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it was about to burst from his chest and shatter his eardrums.
"Then, shall we give it a try?"
