"Run!!!"
Realizing that the number of Zerg was not small, the students quickened their pace.
The guards piloting the mechs understood the urgency of the situation and quickly grabbed the running students and ran back.
Before the students at the front even reached the spaceship, the Zerg behind them were already rushing towards the heavy mechs.
Instantly, intense artillery fire erupted along the first defensive line, and the ground began to shake violently with the explosions.
"Sizzle sizzle sizzle—"
The unpleasant chirping of insects echoed around like a curse, and many Zerg who had bypassed the heavy mechs arrived in front of the guard.
"The first group is responsible for ground operations, the second group continues to defend the airspace, the third and fourth groups hold the last line of defense, and the other team members must get all the students back to the spaceship."
The commander in charge of the overall situation felt a chill run down his spine when he saw the overwhelming horde of Zerg.
But he still gritted his teeth and issued command after command. The heavy mechs in front bore most of the firepower, but he still felt that the people he brought out might not be able to return to the main planet.
Xie Ming appeared at this time. He was still piloting the mecha that had been purchased from the Empire, but apart from the original black and gold color, its appearance had been completely changed.
The commander only saw a blur before his eyes and then a mech flew in front of the first group at an unbelievable angle.
Before the swarming Zerg could even reach him, he raised his laser cannon and fired several shots at the area with the most Zerg.
For a moment, the guards behind him were stunned.
Is this a new type of weapon?
Will every mech be equipped with this device from now on? Will they no longer need cooling?
Xie Ming proudly showed off his fancy launch posture inside the mecha; this was the first assignment he had submitted since entering the school.
"Please answer! Please answer! Pilots in the cockpit, please answer!"
"Xie Ming, student number 39 from Class A of the 9876 Mecha Manufacturing program, is currently carrying out a support rescue operation."
After blasting away a large swarm of insects, Xie Ming calmly answered the commander who had just established a connection with him.
Upon hearing the answer, the commander was startled; he knew this person somewhat.
The school rarely has such a talented student, yet he went to study manufacturing. Everyone felt it was a waste of his talent.
I just didn't expect that they were already a king from the start, and they didn't need to go to the mecha class to fight on the battlefield with ease.
Look at that agile, elegant, yet understated maneuver; even someone as seasoned as him couldn't do that.
The envy was fleeting; after receiving Xie Ming's reply, the commander quickly made arrangements.
With this powerful weapon in hand, the pressure of the subsequent retreat has been greatly reduced.
Despite Xie Ming bearing most of the pressure on the second front, something still happened to the students who had escaped.
A squad of Zerg crossed the battle line from underground and appeared directly among the crowd at the rear.
Suddenly, terrifying, enormous insects emerged from the ground. Upon spotting their target, humans, they immediately extended their tentacles, their sharp points aimed at the students' backs.
Xie Ming immediately noticed the danger over there. He flipped over and leaped up like a god, landing among the insectoids. He drew his laser sword and slashed at the ugly and disgusting tentacles.
With a single arrow, more than a dozen insects, now without their "tongues," let out piercing screams in agony.
The students, who had nearly lost their lives, turned around and saw a tall mech blocking their way, firmly holding back the Zerg vanguard.
"Damn it! Run! Don't hold us back!"
Someone in the group noticed that the escapees weren't paying attention and anxiously shouted at the "idiots."
Once they came to their senses, the group took off running towards the flying boat.
Seeing that the students behind him had retreated to a safe distance, Xie Ming put away his lightsaber, stopped talking, and started bombarding the surrounding area again.
With his addition, the remaining Zerg were quickly wiped out, and the front line of defense gradually moved towards the spaceship.
"All squads, please retreat to the coordinates. Heavy mechs, stay behind. Xie Ming (number 39) will be responsible for security at the spaceship boarding gate..."
The commander's order indicated that all students had safely evacuated to the spaceship, and the next step was the mech evacuation.
The number of Zerg is simply too great. If this drags on any longer, the mechs will run out of energy, and all the warriors inside will perish.
Xie Ming received orders to retreat to the vicinity of the spaceship, and his mission would be completed once the first squad arrived at the boarding gate.
But he did not leave and remained standing there waiting for the mechs to arrive.
Standing guard beside the spaceship, they saw a violent explosion ahead, followed by billowing smoke and dust, and a pungent smell permeated the entire area.
Then, a group of tall, powerful mechs burst out of the thick smoke and headed straight for the spaceship.
One, two... After the last one boarded, the spaceship quickly closed its cabin and flew into the sky.
Once it reached mid-air, a silver orb of light was dropped from the ship.
Everyone felt the spaceship shake, and the desolate planet below seemed to be enveloped by a halo.
Xie Ming knew this was advanced interstellar technology, used to close wormholes. The Zerg that had suddenly appeared on the desolate planet were now trapped, waiting for the Federation to send troops to deal with them.
"Xie Ming! Thank you so much! I almost died just now!"
After speaking, a girl wearing glasses bowed deeply to Xie Ming and burst into tears.
Seeing the girl cry, those who had experienced the same thing before recalled the harrowing scene.
At that moment, the sharp barbs from the insect's sucker were right behind them, relentlessly pursuing them. The cold, sticky sensation felt like it could pierce their backs at any moment, and they vowed never to experience that terrifying feeling again.
"Thanks!"
"Thanks!"
...
Words of gratitude echoed through the cabin.
The tall boy who had previously dragged Xie Ming along stood proudly in front of Xie Ming, accepting all the thanks on his behalf, looking every bit like a manager.
