Ye Jiu forced a smile. "Bad news, I think I'm in big trouble. Good news, I still have you by my side."
Ye Jiu took out something that looked like a compass. "Let me see if there are any magical fluctuations nearby."
The dial showed normal fluctuations. Ye Jiu casually recited a spell and found that the magic could be used normally.
Ye Jiu and Lorien exchanged glances. "So, only communication magic was blocked."
Ye Jiu raised an eyebrow. "What's going on? Is the person using this magic shielding technique incompetent? Can they only shield one type?"
Lorian drew a mark on a nearby tree trunk. "No matter what, let's choose a path first. What if we find an exit, or we can get out of the blocked area and successfully contact Teacher Luna?"
"Then let's go to the left."
As the two walked down the left-hand road, the fog thickened, obscuring their figures.
...
Runa sensed something was wrong as she stepped into the teleportation array, but it was too late to back out.
As expected, the original directional teleportation turned into random teleportation, meaning that all students and teachers were randomly teleported to different parts of the forest.
Runa also tried using communication magic, but it failed again. She then tried other magic, but fortunately, only communication magic was unusable. At least with the other magic, the safety of the students shouldn't be too much of a concern.
But communication was cut off, and she knew nothing about their situation. Moreover, the fact that they could set up a magical shield meant that the perpetrator clearly had ulterior motives.
Luna was just glad that she had been here hundreds of times. She couldn't say she knew the place like the back of her hand, but she wouldn't get lost easily. After figuring out the direction, she headed towards the den of the strange beasts.
This forest is inhabited only by strange beasts; if we're going to make a story out of it, we can only use those beasts.
The worst-case scenario is that the alien beasts are prematurely induced to enter their breeding season, and then these students won't be able to handle them...
...
The timeline is one day ago.
The largest cave on the edge of Melia.
This place serves as the meeting room for the mythical beasts, where the chieftains of their respective clans gather to exchange information before the annual breeding season.
The beasts are not very intelligent. The huge herd is divided into four major groups, each with a chieftain. These four chieftains are among the few beasts that have some intelligence.
Now these four clan leaders are gathered here, and for the first time ever, an alien species that does not belong to the beasts has appeared here.
The demon Asmodius, his face concealed by a black robe, said, "I want to make a deal with you. If you accept, your race can grow to twice its current size."
The four strange beasts looked at each other, but no one spoke.
Asmodius was not in a hurry. He lowered his head and stroked his scythe, patiently waiting for their reply.
After a long while, one of the strange beasts finally spoke, its hoarse and unpleasant beast language hissing, "Hiss hiss—hiss hiss hiss." It sounded almost like a sonic attack.
Asmodius, of course, understood their language. After listening to its long string of words with good temper, he nodded. "I have come for the revival of my Lord. I know that the students of the Buvis Magic Academy often come to harass you and harm your fellow countrymen. I will help you. In exchange, I need you to capture an elven half-blood from among these people for the revival of my Lord."
Pure-blooded elves are extremely rare, and hybrids are acceptable as a second choice, but elves are known for their purity, and it took them a great deal of time to find out about such a hybrid.
According to intelligence, the students of Buvis Magic Academy will come here again tomorrow to clean up the alien beasts, and this half-elf will be among them.
Instead of letting the demons search the vast forest, it's better to seek help from the local inhabitants. The strange beasts, quite familiar with the area, are their best allies.
The beasts are not very intelligent, so it's easy to use them.
Asmodius's words silenced the four beasts once more, but a few minutes later they suddenly erupted into an argument.
The unpleasant beast language felt like torture to Asmodus's ears. He lost his earlier good temper and covered his ears, trying to block out the sounds.
Unfortunately, the sound was quite penetrating, and even plugging one's ears didn't block it out much.
Moreover, the content of their argument was so meaningless.
"Hiss—" (Our tribe wants the most benefits!)
"Hiss—" (Why you guys?)
"Hiss—" (I haven't tasted the flavor of elves yet, is it delicious?)
"Hiss—" (My lord, may we allow the females of our tribe to have more offspring?)
Unable to bear it any longer, Asmodeus swung his scythe and smashed it down in front of the four beasts, shouting, "If you make another sound, I'll kill you right here!"
Silence fell instantly; the whole world became quiet.
Asmodius learned his lesson: dealing with such low-intelligence creatures was no better than resorting to force.
He picked up the scythe. "You only have this one option. As for this half-elf, whoever touches him will die instantly. If you don't want to be minced into meat by my scythe, stay away from that half-elf."
"Hiss—" (What does the minced meat taste like? Is it good?)
Asmodius laughed, and decisively severed its head with his scythe. "Perhaps you can taste this in hell."
The beast's crimson blood stained Asmodis's scythe; only then did he resemble a true demon.
The other three beasts didn't dare to breathe loudly for a moment.
"Hiss" (Okay, okay.)
Asmodius nodded in satisfaction, regretting that he hadn't pretended earlier.
He snapped his fingers, and a packet of powder appeared in his hand. He then walked out of the cave and tossed it into the air. The powder dissipated into the air, and dark clouds appeared inexplicably in the sky, causing a downpour throughout the forest. "This will allow you to enter the breeding season early. I think I don't need to say more about what you'll be like during the breeding season. You can kill anyone except that half-elf."
