Chapter 50 My Childhood Sweetheart Seems Not Human 11

For the next few days, Ye Jiu lived a typical 9-to-5 workday. The small newspaper didn't put much pressure on him, and he never worked overtime. There weren't many articles needed, and he could finish them while chatting with his colleagues.

That day, Ye Jiu went home after get off work as usual. When she got out of the elevator, she found that there seemed to be someone squatting at the door!

Ye Jiu was puzzled. What was going on? Was the security in the community not up to par? She had come here specifically for the security.

Ye Jiu leaned closer and patted the man who was squatting against her door, sleeping with his head buried in his arms. "Wake up, who are you looking for?"

The man looked up in confusion, and Ye Jiu's breath caught in her throat at the familiar face.

Ye Jiu asked in surprise, "Chen Que?! What are you doing squatting by the door? Why don't you come in? And why are your clothes so tattered? Did something happen?"

Xin Mao, who was squatting by the door, was startled when she called him "Chen Que" and looked up at her.

Upon closer inspection, his face was frighteningly pale, and his voice carried a hint of dejection, "I'm sorry, my name is Xin Mao... not Shen Que. Shen Que is my twin brother. I was scammed and have no money, so I could only think of coming to him for help..."

Ye Jiu looked him over carefully and realized that it was indeed not Shen Que. Shen Que had curly hair, while he had straight hair. Shen Que preferred solid-colored clothes, but he was wearing a printed T-shirt, and the print was green, which Shen Que hated the most.

Ye Jiu looked at her face, which was almost identical to Shen Que's, and couldn't help but rub his head. "Come in. Shen Que isn't here. I'm her older sister. I'll get you something to eat first."

Xin Mao stood up abruptly, causing his brain to rush with blood, and he looked like he was about to fall to the ground.

Ye Jiu quickly caught him and chuckled, "Don't be in such a hurry to get up. Your legs must be numb from squatting for so long."

Xin Mao leaned his head on her shoulder to calm himself down. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I was afraid it would affect your ability to open the door."

Shen Que always liked to lean on her like this, and Ye Jiu was already used to it. She subconsciously patted Xin Mao's back and said, "It's okay, it's okay, no rush. I'll open the door when you've calmed down."

Xin Mao blinked slowly. Ye Jiu's presence made him feel at ease, but the sticky, disgusting rose scent lingered on her body. Where Ye Jiu couldn't see, his fingers transformed into vines, and the rich fragrance of wisteria masked the rose scent.

After confirming that the coverage was complete, he stood up with Ye Jiu's help. "Thank you, sister. I feel much better."

Xin Mao called her "sister" so naturally that Ye Jiu felt as if they had known each other for a long time.

She looked at his face, which bore a striking resemblance to Shen Que's, and thought to herself, "It's probably because of this face."

The person she spent every day with suddenly told her that she had a twin brother, which was quite a shock.

Xin Mao was clearly flustered. He stood at the doorway, clutching his forearm with one hand, unsure of what to do.

He said softly, "Sister... it seems there aren't any slippers that I can wear."

Ye Jiu slapped her forehead. She realized that since Shen Que had left, she had put away his slippers, leaving her own pair by the door.

Ye Jiu rummaged through the shoe cabinet and found a few pairs of disposable slippers, handing them to him. "Wear these for now, I'll take you to buy some more later."

Xin Mao obediently put on his disposable slippers and followed behind Ye Jiu. Ye Jiu pointed to the sofa and told him to sit down and wait. "You sit down first. I'll go find you something to eat, and then I'll see if I have any clothes you can wear."

Xin Mao stood in front of the sofa, hesitant to sit down, and asked tentatively, "Sister... is there a chair? My clothes will get the sofa dirty..."

Ye Jiu felt even more affection for him upon hearing this, "It's alright, sit down."

Xin Mao smiled sweetly, "Thank you, but I'll pass. It would only add to my sister's workload."

Ye Jiu didn't insist any further, and took out a bag of bread and handed it to him, "This is all we have for now, have it to tide you over. We'll go out to buy groceries later, and I'll buy you something while we're at it."

Xinmao took the bread and hesitated, "Sister, don't you have any questions for me? You're just taking me in like this? Aren't you afraid I'm... a liar?"

Ye Jiu reached out and patted his head. "Don't be afraid. I'd take you in just for your face, not to mention you're Shen Que's twin brother."

After Ye Jiu finished speaking, she touched her chin and said, "But I do have a question for you. You two look so alike, why is one of you surnamed Shen and the other surnamed Xin? And Shen Que has never told me that he has a younger brother."

Xin Mao broke off a piece of bread and put it in his mouth, lowering his eyes as he said, "Because that couple only adopted my brother back then, not me, I grew up in the orphanage, so we... have different surnames. As for why my brother never told you about me, that might be..." He swallowed the bread and continued, "Maybe he didn't like me..."

Ye Jiu's mouth dropped open. "They can't believe it! They've gone too far! They actually separated the twins and left you in the orphanage! Shen Que is really something, he didn't even tell me he had a brother like you. You don't seem to have had a good life these past few years. If he had told me, I would have sent you some money."

Ye Jiu's pity for him increased.

After Xin Mao finished his bread, he threw the bag into the trash can. Ye Jiu took out a white short-sleeved shirt and handed it to him. "This was originally bought for Shen Que, but I see that you and he are about the same size, and I feel that this shirt suits you very well. You can wear it first, and I will buy him another one another day."

Xin Mao looked at the shirt; the short-sleeved shirt had a tree branch printed on the front, which was exactly what he liked.

He spoke cautiously, "But this way I've essentially stolen my brother's clothes, and he'll be angry if he finds out..."

Ye Jiu waved her hand, "It's okay. If you don't tell me and I don't tell him, he won't know. The ones that weren't sent out are still mine. I can handle them however I want."

Xin Mao took the clothes and went to the bathroom to change. With his back to Ye Jiu, he curled the corners of his mouth, but he really wanted his brother to know.

Just as Ye Jiu imagined, Xin Mao was very suitable for this kind of clothing. Although white clothes are generally versatile and never go wrong, Xin Mao wearing white clothes and Shen Que wearing white clothes give off two different vibes.

Ye Jiu nodded, "You look better in it. I always feel a little awkward when Shen Que wears white."

"Really?" Xin Mao was flattered. He carefully took a few steps forward so that Ye Jiu could look at him more closely.

"Okay, let's go shopping now. Is there anything you'd like to eat? I can cook anything."

Xin Mao shook his head. "Sister, you don't need to cook. I'll cook. Thank you for taking me in. I'm a very good cook... I want you to try my cooking." After saying that, he nervously lowered his head and fiddled with the hem of his clothes, afraid that Ye Jiu would refuse.

Ye Jiu was eager to take advantage of the opportunity to relax and said happily, "Of course! I was originally worried about cooking, but I'll leave dinner to you tonight!"

Xin Mao's eyes lit up upon hearing this. "Sister, you've tried it tonight. If you like it, I can make it for you every day. I've troubled you so much, so it would be great if I could help you out!"

"Great! I was a bit bored after Shen Que left, but now that you're here, I have someone to keep me company. It's nice, haha."
