Ye Jiu was about to pretend she hadn't seen anything and slip away, thinking it was better to avoid trouble and go back to sleep with Yun Jia.
"Hey, why are you so late!" Ji Huali noticed her first and called out.
Ye Jiu pointed at herself, her mouth agape in disbelief, "Me?"
The men in black all looked at Ye Jiu, and Ji Huali clearly indicated that the two were in cahoots.
Taking advantage of the fact that the men in black were all distracted by Ye Jiu, Wei Ke pulled out a packet of poison from her pocket. Damn, she finally found an opportunity.
She grabbed it and threw it at the man in black's eyes.
"Lie down!"
Three of the eight men in black were hit, their eyes burned by the poison, and they collapsed to the ground howling in pain. The other five reacted quickly, with two rushing towards Ye Jiu, while the remaining three continued to fight with Ji Huali's guards.
The scene immediately descended into chaos. Wei Ke crawled back under the table; this frail doctor couldn't die here.
Ji Huali's guards were under less pressure and could handle the situation with ease. Ye Jiu was even more capable; after all, she was a "virgin" and was known for her ability to take on ten men at once. It would be a bit embarrassing for her to be defeated by these few people today.
Ye Jiu kicked away the guards who were rushing towards her with an uppercut. With two loud thuds, the two men were on the ground in just a few seconds.
Ji Huali's eyes lit up; he was a talented person.
Ye Jiu stepped into the house and ambushed the remaining three people from behind. With a few kicks, the house was filled with people lying on the floor.
Ji Huali was the first to react: "Cut the weeds and eliminate the roots, leave no one alive."
The guards killed them one by one with their swords, and the room was filled with the strong smell of blood.
Ye Jiu pinched her nose, feeling incredibly unlucky. She came out to check the situation and ended up smelling terrible. She looked at Ji Huali, who was clearly the person in charge here.
Because she owned her own clothing shop, she had some knowledge of fabrics. She looked Ji Huali up and down and realized that the clothes were not cheap, indicating that Ji Huali was quite wealthy.
Ye Jiu frowned. Oh no, she was in deep trouble.
The guards stabbed each man in black twice, once on the left side of his heart and once on the right, just in case someone with a heart on the right side escaped.
After dealing with the people inside, they continued with the two Ye Jiu had taken care of outside. One of them woke up at some point and threw out a smoke bomb. The white smoke obscured their vision, and the man in black used it to escape from their sight.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the guards stabbed her randomly through the smoke, trying to inflict some damage, but unfortunately they missed.
As the white smoke dissipated, the black-clad figure left on the ground became the target of everyone's venting. Each person took a sword, and only after confirming that she was absolutely dead did they put away their swords.
The three guards knelt on the ground with a thud, pleading, "Please punish us!"
Ji Huali had just learned that the secret guards were short-handed, and the assassination attempt had failed, so she waved for them to leave. "We need manpower for important matters, so let it go this time, but don't let it happen again."
The room fell silent again. Ye Jiu turned and left. Yun Jia must be getting impatient.
"Wait, heroine!" Ji Huali said, stopping Ye Jiu.
Ye Jiu turned her head and said, "Speak quickly if you have something to say, I'm in a hurry to go to sleep."
Wei Ke, with great foresight, lifted the door from the ground and blocked the doorway.
Ji Huali gestured for her to sit down, saying, "This matter really can't be rushed. Let me explain slowly."
"Fine, I don't want to hear it," Ye Jiu said impatiently.
"How dare you speak to my master like that!" Wei Ke glared at her fiercely.
Ye Jiu closed her eyes; she was really in trouble.
"Our mistress is the eldest princess, how dare you be so disrespectful to her!"
Ye Jiu reluctantly clasped his hands in a fist and said, "It was my ignorance that I failed to recognize Your Highness. I never expected to meet you in a place like this."
Ji Huali gave Wei Ke an approving look. Very good, you deserve a reward.
Ji Huali cleared her throat. "We've already left the capital. No need for formalities. I just thanked the chivalrous lady for her righteous help."
Ye Jiu: ...I wouldn't have come if you guys hadn't been so noisy.
"As you can see, I lack someone with your high level of martial arts skills by my side. I wonder... what do you think?"
Wei Ke replied, "If you follow His Highness, he will not mistreat you!"
Ye Jiu sighed, having lived as an ordinary citizen in the capital for so long, she had forgotten that this place was full of royalty and nobility. She never imagined that she would get involved in the "Nine Princes' Struggle for the Throne".
"Your Highness, I am just an ordinary citizen, content with having enough to eat. I really can't think of any way I can help you..."
Ji Huali grasped her hand. "No, you can be of great help to me. There's no need to belittle yourself."
Ye Jiu: ...Isn't this princess a little too enthusiastic?
"After this is accomplished, you will be promoted and ennobled. I will certainly not treat you unfairly."
Ye Jiu looked troubled. "This... I only wish for a warm bed and a loving husband and children. I really don't have such lofty ambitions..."
Ji Huali's smile vanished, replaced by a fierce expression. "Do you know whose man you just hit?"
Ye Jiu's expression changed slightly as she understood what she meant. If the guard hadn't run away, it would have been fine, but she did. She had seen Ye Jiu's face and heard Ji Huali's misleading words...
"I think you're a smart person, you should understand what I mean..."
Wei Ke had somehow appeared behind her, blocking her way back.
Okay, okay, so you're resorting to threats when bribery fails...
Ye Jiu began to regret not punching the guard to death. He realized he couldn't bring himself to do it. He learned his lesson and considered it a mistake.
Ye Jiu smiled ingratiatingly, "This humble subject understands, but I need some more time to think it over. I wonder if Your Highness could grant me a little time to consider?"
Ji Huali smiled with satisfaction, "Don't worry, I would never do something like crossing the river and then burning the bridge. Otherwise, so many people wouldn't follow me. If you can lend me a hand, your future will be limitless."
