Life is like weeds, endless and everlasting.

Four years can change a lot of things. In the city, things are changing with each passing day. But in a remote mountain village, four years can hardly change anything. Except for the people getting older, the village is still the same village.

Fang Yinan was sitting in the yard, with a large plastic basin on the ground in front of her. It was filled with dirty clothes, with a washboard in the middle. She was holding up a pair of pants and rubbing them hard on the washboard. With every rub, black water and foam flowed down.

She raised her hand and wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. Her gray temples were already wet with sweat.

"Mom, you haven't cooked yet? I'm starving!"

Nine-year-old Lan Mao ran out of the house, his chubby arms and legs making his clothes bulge out.

Fang Yinan said impatiently: "Can't you see I'm busy? Go find your dad."

Lan Mao snorted: "He went out early in the morning and hasn't come back yet. Who knows where he went?"

"Where else can you go? Are you out playing cards again? Go to the west end of the village and see the old—"

"Fang Yinan!"

The shout was deafening. Fang Yinan raised her head suddenly and saw Lan Yaowu striding back from outside. His face was heavy, but there was a hint of panic in his eyes.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly dropped the clothes in her hands, stood up, wiped her hands on both sides of her trouser seams, and went to meet him: "What's wrong? What happened?"

Lan Yaowu glanced at Lan Mao and suddenly got angry. "What are you doing here? Go inside and do your homework. Look at your grades, which are so embarrassing that they can't be knocked down with one kick."

Lan Mao curled his lips, trying to argue with his father with a playful smile as usual, but Lan Yaowu suddenly picked up the washboard and pointed it at him. Lan Mao was shocked and said, "I'm writing, I'm writing, why are you hitting me?"

He turned and ran away.

Fang Yinan grabbed the washboard and asked, "What are you doing? Why are you scaring your son?"

"When you get angry outside, you come back and take it out on us. Do you have any ambition?"

"Oh, you still have the nerve to say that!" Lan Yaowu was furious. He pointed at Fang Yinan's nose and said, "Your daughter is so promising!"

"What do you mean? What daughter?" Fang Yinan was stunned for a moment, then realized, "Do you have any news about Lan Shuang?"

Lan Yaowu sat down on a bench in the yard, took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a fierce puff. "It's not that we have news about her, it's that she sued us! The court notices have even reached the village branch!"

"Ah?!" Fang Yinan was shocked. "How is that possible? How could she sue us? Where did she get the money?"

After asking, she panicked, "No, how dare she sue us?"

"Why wouldn't she dare?" Lan Yaowu said bitterly, "She even dared to call the police and accuse us of selling her out. Four years have passed, and she's become even more powerful. What's so strange about her suing us?"

"Then what should we do? She sued us. Does she want us to pay compensation?"

Fang Yinan paced back and forth in the yard. "How could she be so cruel? If I had known this would happen, I should have aborted her. Then there wouldn't be so much trouble."

The resentment and regret in her tone could not be hidden. Lan Yaowu heard it and threw away the cigarette in his hand. He grabbed Fang Yinan's wrist and pulled her in front of him, sneering: "You really regret it. You were not happy to marry me in the first place, right?"

Fang Yinan looked at the old and ugly face in front of her, and could no longer find any trace of the shadow that made her heart beat faster in the past. The hatred in her heart could not be controlled and appeared on her face.

After reading this, Lan Yaowu became extremely angry. He grabbed Fang Yinan's hair and started punching and kicking her.

Lan Mao heard Fang Yinan's screams in the house and silently shrank into the corner. He didn't dare to make a sound or stop it, so he pretended to be deaf and dumb.

While lying on the ground, Fang Yinan looked at the scorching sun, and two lines of tears slid down the corners of her eyes.

Lan Yaowu initially planned to deny it, not go to court, and pretend he knew nothing about it.

But Lan Shuang knew him very well, so she brought people to their house and took them to court.

When they arrived at the court, Lan Yaowu and Fang Yinan were still cursing.

However, when they really stood in the dock, they couldn't help but feel scared and their legs trembled.

Lan Shuang was standing in the plaintiff's seat looking at them, and they didn't even recognize it was Lan Shuang for a moment.

She was wearing a black dress with a rose-colored belt around her waist. Her long hair was braided into a whip and casually draped over her shoulders. She had a little makeup on, which made her beauty even more stunning. Even without any jewelry, she seemed to be glowing, a noble quality that came from a life of luxury.

It was only when Lan Shuang called out their names that they realized who was in front of them.

"Lan Yaowu, Fang Yinan, long time no see, how come you look so old?"

Lan Yaowu's eyes widened. "Lan Shuang? It's really you?"

Lan Shuang raised her eyebrows: "What else? Is there another Lan Shuang in this world?"

"Where have you been for the past four years? Have you hooked up with some rich man?" Lan Yaowu turned his gaze and saw Jiang Lusheng who was listening.

"Are you her mistress?"

Jiang Lusheng raised his hand, revealing the ring on his ring finger. "I'm sorry, I'm her legal husband. Our marriage is protected by the law. Don't define our relationship with your dirty thoughts."

Fang Yinan looked at Lan Shuang's hand and saw that she was wearing the same ring on her ring finger.

"Why are you getting married?! I, your father, didn't agree, so what right do you have?"

Lan Yaowu was shouting loudly, and someone immediately shouted, "Silence!"

Lan Shuang's lawyer arrived, and the judge and others took their seats one by one. When everyone was present, the trial officially began.
