Chapter 15 The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber - Public Funds Procurement

Eagle Guard? It seems this person is a regular visitor. In fact, the owner of Green Willow Manor is a regular here.

Hua Cai muttered to herself, her hands busy as she pulled a chair to the counter, sat down, rested her arm on the counter, and looked at the shopkeeper expectantly: "Shopkeeper, do you have Eagle Orchid or not?"

Although the shopkeeper was old, his composure was obviously not as good as the expressionless guard. When Hua Cai with her panda eyes looked at him so pitifully, his mouth twitched and he almost burst out laughing. He quickly turned around and took out two boxes.

"I only have two Eagle Orchids in my shop. They're not cheap, and you don't need them unless it's a special occasion. This stock just arrived recently, and I haven't sent it to other branches yet. Normally, I only have one in my shop, and other pharmacies almost never have them." The shopkeeper said, carefully opening two brocade boxes to reveal two dried herbs inside, which were the Eagle Orchids that Hua Cai had specifically requested.

Hua Cai knew the shopkeeper was telling the truth. This stuff wasn't cheap, and it was rarely used. Only the largest chain pharmacy in the city would dare to store two such valuable herbs in its warehouse.

Two catties of Eagle Orchid was obviously just something Hua Cai made up on the spot. Even if the shop really had two catties, she couldn't afford it even if she sold the expressionless guard behind her.

"No matter the price, I'll take it all." Hua Cai waved her hand generously, taking on the entire package.

The shopkeeper was delighted to hear this and readily pushed the two boxes forward: "I'll gladly accept one thousand taels of silver."

"Cough cough cough—" Hua Cai kept patting her chest, while asking the shopkeeper for confirmation, "Huh? How much?"

The shopkeeper glanced at Hua Cai, then at the expressionless man behind her, seemingly puzzled as to why the nouveau riche from Green Willow Manor would lose his composure over a mere thousand taels of silver.

"One thousand taels of silver." The shopkeeper solemnly held up one finger and placed it in front of Hua Cai.

Hua Cai's lips twitched.

She had only been in this world for a short time, and her understanding of prices was limited to her memories before entering the palace by smelling the fragrance.

For ordinary people's daily purchases, copper coins were the most commonly used currency. Only during large-scale purchases during festivals and holidays would silver, a much larger sum of money, be used directly for transactions.

The shopkeeper immediately asked for a thousand taels of silver for these two medicinal herbs, leaving Hua Cai speechless and completely stunned.

Turning her head to look at the expressionless overseer behind her, and seeing that he didn't react, Hua Cai simply picked up the money bag and put it on the table, unsealed it, and without even looking at the loose silver, took out the folded banknotes inside.

Upon opening it, the amount was considerable: one hundred taels... one hundred taels... one hundred taels...

Hua Cai turned her head: "Xiao Hei, give me the money."

She only has a thousand taels of silver in total, and she's already handed it all over. What will she do for the subsequent purchases?

The expressionless guard stood there motionless until Hua Cai and the shopkeeper's eyes were fixed on him, then he realized that Xiao Hei was talking about him.

Despite being extremely reluctant to be called "Little Black," the expressionless guard endured it for a while, then reached into his robes, took out a silver note, and handed it over.

The shopkeeper reached out and took a look, then happily folded it and put it on the counter, quickly packing the two eagle orchids.

"Distinguished guests, is there anything else you need? As the largest pharmacy in the area, our store has the most complete selection of medicinal herbs." The shopkeeper smiled as he looked at the two wealthy customers before him.

Looking at the two neatly packaged boxes of Eagle Orchid in front of her, Hua Cai smiled and quickly folded up the stack of silver notes in her hand and put them back into her money bag: "Take out any other medicinal herbs that smell good and let me see them."

It was noon when the two men emerged from the herbal medicine shop, accompanied by more than ten guards carrying large and small bags.

Touching her rumbling stomach, Hua Cai glanced around and fixed her gaze on the signboard of an inn. She gestured for the other guards to go back first and was about to head straight for her target when an arm suddenly appeared in front of her and stopped her.

Hua Cai looked at the expressionless guard with a puzzled expression.

The expressionless guard remained silent for a moment, then pointed to the cloth shop opposite the paper shop and the sign next to the inn's door.

Hua Cai drew closer.

Those who are improperly dressed are not allowed to enter.

Hua Cai remained silent, turned around, and entered the cloth shop without hesitation.

The fabric shop had all kinds of beautiful fabrics, as well as ready-made clothes for sale. However, Hua Cai's current status was not suitable for expensive fabrics, and due to some special reasons, she even picked the ugliest styles. At this speed, only a quarter of an hour had passed when Hua Cai and her companion sat down in the lobby of the inn to wait for their food.

"Host, this guard is looking down on your taste." The system waved around in front of Hua Cai with a smug look on its face: "Look at him, there are piles of black lines hanging on his forehead."

Hua Cai has now transformed from an extremely pitiful beggar into a village girl with a unique style of dressing.

However, she was still very curious about how the system could see such an abstract thing as black lines from that expressionless face.

Looking up, she saw the black-clad guard sitting opposite her, his gaze fixed on a small package beside her.

While Hua Cai was leisurely "stockpiling" at the pharmacy, the black-clad guards, with great foresight, sent someone to Green Willow Manor to deliver a message, ordering a team to wait and carry the purchased medicinal herbs back. They were able to enter empty-handed and leave empty-handed, enjoying their freedom.

The only small package they had was the patched clothes that Hua Cai had changed out of, which were worse than a rag.

Seeing that he was still staring at the package, Hua Cai coughed lightly: "Ahem, this is the only thing in the world that belongs to me. If I am ever left with nothing again, at least I will still have a set of clothes to cover myself."

As Hua Cai spoke, she carefully pulled the package closer to herself.

The expressionless guard looked up in surprise, his gaze fixed on Hua Cai's face.

Hua Cai was only surprised for a second before shifting her attention to the astonished expression on the expressionless face, because—the food had arrived.

As the sun set, Hua Cai returned home, her money bag still full.

She could understand the huge sum of money spent on medicinal herbs, but she couldn't understand why this person would insist on paying for even small meals later on.

However, since it's all money spent by the Xuanming Elders and Green Willow Manor, there's nothing to feel bad about.

As soon as the two entered the manor gate, a person rushed over: "Yes, you're back. The two lords are waiting for you in the side hall. Quickly take this young lady there."

Hua Cai followed behind the expressionless guard. After the guard who delivered the message had gone far away, she couldn't help but ask, "Is your name supposed to be?"

Stop, turn around, and nod.

Hua Cai gave an awkward smile, indicating that continuing on her way was the priority, while inwardly complaining.

Lovers aren't playing hard to get; they're just acting "as they should."
