Chapter 40 The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber—I was never in the paintings before.

Five days passed in a flash. Setting up a clinic was no easy task. After successfully bribing the old man next door with a rent of two taels of silver, Hua Cai rode on her pillow, asked the villagers for directions, and made a special trip to the nearest town. She chose a small medicine cabinet with only two floors and a total of ten compartments.

The medicinal herbs in the back mountain of Da'an Village are just a few kinds, simple in variety and large in quantity. The flowers and herbs that have not yet been rolled into pills are all wrapped in oil paper and placed in a large box, so there is no need for this small medicine cabinet.

I bought this ten-compartment medicine cabinet specifically for her.

This body has a whole host of ailments, big and small. The medicines in Da'an Village are all very common and not very effective. In order to prevent myself from dying before the mission is completed, I need to prepare some truly useful medicines.

The pharmacy in town was very close to the woodworking shop, but it wasn't as big as the Green Willow Manor. Hua Cai couldn't buy all the medicine she wanted, so in the end she could only buy the two old ginseng roots that were the shop's prized possession, in preparation for any eventuality.

After leaving the pharmacy, Hua Cai bought two jars of honey. She then went to a bookstore and bought what was said to be the best-selling miscellaneous notes and historical writings. She also picked out the best writing materials. The shop owner smiled broadly and generously gave her two copies of a gossip magazine.

The system, which had somehow completely succumbed to a tragic path, sighed, "Boss, how come you've made this mission so tragic? I've never seen a host who, on the one hand, is courting death and doesn't care about their body, and on the other hand, is actively and cheerfully preparing ginseng to prolong their life."

Hua Cai smiled but didn't say anything.

If she had other options, she wouldn't have wanted to leave in such a "tragic" way. Although it wasn't her own body, she was still suffering the pain herself.

After arranging some furniture and thoroughly cleaning the yard, Hua Cai announced that she had almost finished purchasing medicinal herbs and was now suspending purchases to focus on processing them. She also offered to help anyone with health issues, and said that they could exchange the herbs from the mountain for consultation fees.

Upon hearing this, the villagers who had been watching were once again in an uproar. Some were disappointed that they could not make money from medicinal herbs, while others were surprised that their village had produced a female healer, and that she was charging her fees in such a way.

After settling things at the neighboring clinic, Hua Cai returned to her own courtyard and entered a state of "seclusion." Si En didn't come here again either; Hua Cai had sent her to the neighboring clinic, instructing her to call her if anyone needed treatment.

Si'en thought she would have to do those repetitive things for a long time, but she didn't expect to have the opportunity to observe and learn by herself so soon. Si'en readily agreed.

The matter of the clinic was considered to be over. When Hua Cai finally turned her attention back to Zhao Qiang, she found that Zhao Qiang had piled up a large stack of waste paper on the newly bought desk in the room.

"What's this for?" Seeing Zhao Qiang staring out the window, frowning as if deep in thought, Hua Cai curiously went over to look at the table.

On the top sheet of Xuan paper among the scraps of paper was Wenxiang's radiant smile, but the artist was clearly not very skilled, and the person in the painting looked somewhat out of place.

"Hehe, it's a drawing of me." Hua Cai excitedly grabbed the top few drawings and started flipping through them.

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the topmost image was still in good condition, but the lower the image went, the rougher it appeared.

Zhao Qiang reacted a beat too slow and tried to stop her, but it was too late. He watched helplessly as Hua Cai flipped through the pages one by one to the bottom.

"You've drawn very well. You've made obvious progress in every single one." Hua Cai praised generously: "Keep it up, you'll soon reach your previous standards. However, although you drew better before, I still prefer this one."

With lightning speed, Hua Cai folded up the topmost, most complete portrait and put it into her bosom.

"Why?" Zhao Qiang wondered, while quickly folding the first few sheets on the table and stuffing them into the drawer, intending to burn them later.

“Because I was never in my brother’s paintings before.” Hua Cai happily circled around Zhao Qiang: “It’s great, I have a portrait painted by my brother.”

Zhao Qiang felt a surge of emotion, and his hand trembled, causing the ink from the tip of his brush to stain the pure white Xuan paper, which was quite dazzling. He subconsciously reached out to wipe it, but Hua Cai quickly grabbed him.

“If the paper is ruined, we can use it for something else. If we’re going to paint, then we can just start over with a new sheet.” Hua Cai pulled out the sheet of Xuan paper stained with ink, folded it neatly, and what appeared in front of Zhao Qiang was another sheet of clean Xuan paper.

"Have you finished with the medical clinic?" With Hua Cai watching over him, Zhao Qiang's mind went blank, and he couldn't put pen to paper. Helpless, he put down his pen and looked at Hua Cai, who was in a good mood.

"Yes, that's right." Hua Cai cheerfully pointed to the courtyard next door: "The clinic is right next door, Si En is watching over it. Do you want to go and take a look?"

Upon hearing the first sentence, Zhao Qiang smiled and stood up eagerly, but after Hua Cai finished speaking, he sat down again.

Zhao Qiang was quite annoyed that the woman was there too.

Ever since he completely accepted Hua Cai as one of his own, Zhao Qiang couldn't stand Si En, who clearly had ulterior motives for following Hua Cai around. Upon hearing that it was that person watching over the clinic, he immediately lost all interest in going to see her.

"Let's go next time." Zhao Qiang sat down with little interest. He wanted to pick up a pen, but his hand stopped. He turned around, opened a drawer, took out a notebook, and leisurely flipped through it.

"Brother, is this book good?" Hua Cai glanced at the cover and then stole a glance at Zhao Qiang.

"Hmm." Zhao Qiang responded casually, his fingertips lightly turning a page.

“Oh~” Hua Cai nodded in realization, pointing her slender finger at the cover: “But you just said yesterday that what’s written in this book is utter nonsense and not worth reading.”

Zhao Qiang was taken aback. He looked down at the words on the page, and sure enough, it was the book he had criticized so harshly yesterday.

"Ahem, didn't you want to learn martial arts? Come on, let's practice a horse stance first." Zhao Qiang, exposed, didn't dwell on it. He closed the book in his hand, tossed it aside, and pulled Hua Cai out of the courtyard.

Time flies. In just over a month, after easily curing several villagers who came to seek medical help, Hua Cai quickly became one of the villagers of Da'an Village, and Zhao Qiang also began to get used to strolling around the village in the morning.

Everyone in Da'an Village knows that among the village's girls, there is a handsome older brother who is also skilled in both literature and martial arts.

At noon that day, Zhao Qiang, with a bitter face, was about to try Hua Cai's newly improved herbal snacks when there was a knock on the courtyard gate. Wang Po's voice rang out from outside: "Little Xiang, someone is looking for you."
