Hua Cai always felt that the marriage was something Yue Chen had planned long ago. Just half a month before that day, the Yue Kingdom's wedding procession appeared in front of her in a magnificent manner.
The grand procession stretched out from the Jin Dynasty palace, winding its way out as far as the eye could see.
Hua Cai, who had just gotten up and was out looking for food, looked up in bewilderment at the handsome young man sitting on a tall horse, and pinched her arm hard.
"It hurts." A piercing pain shot through her arm, and Hua Cai looked at Yue Chen with teary eyes: "What's wrong with you?"
A series of suppressed coughs rose and fell. Helpless, Yue Chen reached out and scooped Hua Cai, who was still somewhat confused about the situation, onto the horse's back. With a wave of his hand, his clear voice carried far and wide: "Let's go."
Departure? Departure for what purpose?
Feeling a pair of strong arms pass around her waist and hold her tightly in their embrace, Hua Cai struggled to turn her head and glared at the man behind her: "What's going on?"
"Sit up straight." Yue Chen straightened Hua Cai's body seriously, his slender fingers gently wiping the corner of her eye, the smile in his eyes impossible to hide: "Wash your face first."
As she spoke, a neatly folded, damp towel appeared in front of Hua Cai: "Do you need my help?"
Hua Cai's face instantly turned bright red. She quickly took the handkerchief and covered her face with it. A muffled voice came from under the handkerchief: "No need."
This guy is deliberately trying to embarrass her in front of so many people, isn't he? You know exactly when I get up.
Hua Cai wiped her face clean and pulled it down, ready to confront Yue Chen.
"There's water to rinse your mouth and breakfast in the carriage behind. Are you hungry?" Yue Chen always spoke before Hua Cai could, and with just one sentence, the rumbling in her stomach instantly extinguished her anger.
Food is the most important thing for people.
Hua Cai comforted herself as she nimbly slipped into the back of the car.
The journey wasn't as boring as Hua Cai had imagined. Although there were no clueless assassins to keep her entertained, Yue Chen deliberately found many interesting storybooks for her and didn't require her to wear heavy and complicated phoenix coronet and wedding robes the whole way. She read the storybooks and practiced her moves along the way, which made her quite comfortable.
After embarking on her journey to marriage, Hua Cai realized that what she had learned before was actually the Shadowless Sword Technique, and there were no two sets of sword techniques; it was all a lie.
The massive wedding procession took half a month to reach the capital of Yue. After spending one night there, Hua Cai was woken up early the next morning and made to dress up.
The sedan chair proceeded straight to the palace gate, where Hua Caicai was helped down by her maid.
She struggled to stand, the heavy weight on her head making her feel like an upside-down hammer. Even with her considerable skill, she could barely maintain her composure.
The beaded curtain hanging in front of my eyes swayed slightly, making a crisp sound as it clattered together. Under the veil of red gauze, the whole world became hazy.
"Let's go, Madam." A pair of slender, jade-like hands appeared in front of Hua Cai, and the clear, gentle voice brought a sense of reassurance.
The title "Madam" just sounds better than "Princess Consort" for some reason.
She placed her hand in Yue Chen's palm and followed him towards the main hall of the palace.
Hua Cai's current status means that even if some senior officials harbor resentment about her past marriage, they dare not speak of it. Regardless of whether it is true or not, the elaborate rituals and blessings from beginning to end are all there.
The red veil in front of her was gently lifted, and Hua Cai looked up, meeting Yue Chen's amazed gaze.
Hua Cai secretly ate many snacks that Yue Chen gave her along the way. She wasn't hungry. Once she could see clearly, she scanned the area and accurately found Jin Yin sitting in the front seat.
Speaking of which, it must have been a long time since she and Jin Yin last saw each other. Even the Emperor Yue could write a letter to Yue Chen, but this man who loved his daughter dearly couldn't even send a single word to Hua Cai because of his sensitive identity.
"Father." Meeting Jin Yin's gaze, Hua Cai opened her mouth slightly and silently called out to him.
Jin Yin nodded to Hua Cai with red eyes. Hua Cai smiled and suddenly felt Yue Chen's hand swaying slightly.
Turning his head in confusion, he saw Yue Chen holding his forehead with one hand, seemingly feeling unwell.
"What's wrong with you?" Hua Cai frowned, her fingertips touching his wrist as she was about to examine him when her wrist was suddenly gripped tightly. A force struck his waist, and the soft sword she had specially crafted for sword practice appeared in Yue Chen's hand.
Hua Cai was stunned. Before she could even look up, she felt a chill in her chest as a soft sword pierced through her chest.
Startled, he looked up and saw Yue Chen staring in disbelief at the sword in his hand.
Hua Cai wanted to say something, but felt her strength rapidly draining away. She spat out a mouthful of blood, which dripped onto her bright red wedding dress. Finally, she could no longer hold on and slowly collapsed to the ground.
"Baozhu—Baozhu—" The familiar voice rang in her ears with a heart-wrenching pain. Hua Cai struggled to open her eyes and met Jin Yin Lao's face, which was streaked with tears.
Hua Cai's nose tingled with sadness: "System, is there anything that can bring me back to life?"
She suddenly wanted to stay in this world for the man who had given everything for his daughter.
What will he do if Jin Baozhu dies like this?
"Insufficient energy. The current energy you have is enough to buy pills that can only keep this body alive for twenty years. Even if you stay here for twenty years, this body will still be a living dead."
"Buy it." Hua Cai gritted her teeth, feeling her body gradually grow cold. She forced a smile and looked at Jin Yin: "Father, don't blame anyone, don't harbor hatred. You must live well, I—"
Suddenly everything went dark, and Hua Cai floated up into the air.
"No way, they didn't even let me finish my last sentence." Hua Cai was speechless. She looked at the golden pearl on the ground and closed her eyes. Jin Yin burst into tears, feeling very uncomfortable.
Emperor Yue finally realized what was happening and summoned the imperial physician with the best medicines. The hall, which had been filled with joy just moments before, was instantly thrown into chaos.
Hua Cai's gaze shifted slightly, her eyes landing on Yue Chen, who seemed to have turned to wood, with a complicated expression: "System, what will happen if I die before the mission is completed?"
"Ordinary people will be reduced to ashes, and even a nine-tailed celestial fox will suffer severe damage to its soul, or even be lost in the turbulent flow of time and space." The system's voice also became solemn.
Failure to complete the mission means death. Even though the Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox is not part of the conventional order, the chances of her surviving are extremely slim.
"Okay, let's go." Hua Cai turned her head one last time, glanced at the two people, one crying and the other standing there in a daze, then turned around and disappeared completely into the air.
If it's over, then it's over. Perhaps she's been living too comfortably lately, and she's forgotten that the man was going to kill her. This is something he's been insisting on for almost four years.
She, however, was careless.
