On the first day of school, Zi Xi boiled two eggs for Ji Yanchen and dyed the shells with red paper, saying it was a good omen for a prosperous start.
Ji Yanchen accepted the eggs with a smile, but then turned around and stuffed them all into Zi Xi's schoolbag.
“Xixi needs more nutrition than I do. I might come home late tonight, so I’m thinking of looking for a part-time job.”
He ruffled her hair.
"Then don't overwork yourself."
Zi Xi wanted to object, but seeing his stubborn look, she had no choice but to nod in agreement.
The university life that followed was busier than I had imagined.
Ji Yanchen gets up before dawn every day, rides his bike across half the city to go to class, goes to work at a repair shop in the afternoon, and studies when he comes back in the evening.
Zixi found a job organizing books in the school library. Although the pay was meager, she could study during her breaks.
Weekends are their most cherished time.
Zixi would buy some ingredients from the school cafeteria and then cook a decent meal in their little house.
Ji Yanchen would bring up the questions he had accumulated throughout the week and discuss them with Zi Xi. Zi Xi's literary knowledge often brought him new perspectives on his engineering thinking.
On the eve of the first semester's final exams, Zi Xi stayed up until the early hours of the morning to organize review materials for Ji Yanchen.
On the day the results were released, they both received first-class scholarships.
Zi Xi excitedly clenched her fists and shouted "Yay!" several times in their little house, while Ji Yanchen, unusually, bought a bottle of Erguotou to celebrate.
"I told you you could do it..."
Slightly tipsy, Zi Xi leaned on his shoulder and murmured softly.
Ji Yanchen stroked Zixi's cheek. He felt that even the hardest days would become very sweet as long as she was by his side.
Four years of university life passed in the blink of an eye.
At the graduation ceremony, Zixi delivered a speech as an outstanding student representative.
Ji Yanchen sat in the audience, his eyes fixed on her.
The confident, composed, and radiant figure on the stage gradually overlapped with the figure huddled in the tractor deep in my memory.
He remembered it clearly; he saw her at a glance.
"...Our generation shoulders the heavy responsibility of revitalizing China..."
Zi Xi's voice was clear and powerful, penetrating the entire auditorium.
"Knowledge changes destiny. And what we change is the future of the entire nation!"
As soon as he finished speaking, thunderous applause erupted from the audience and lasted for a long time.
Ji Yanchen clapped his hands vigorously until his palms were red, but his eyes felt slightly hot and swollen without him noticing.
This is his lover, the one who led him out of his negative emotions.

You're amazing!
A burst of exaggerated electrical static followed, something Zi Xi hadn't heard in a long time.
Having just been pulled out of the small world of the past, Zi Xi felt as if she had been forcibly pushed back into her original body.
"How can such an intelligent system like yours still have background noise?"
She shook her dizzy head and complained irritably.
[Oh dear, host, please calm down! This is just a new system!]
