The courtyard was quiet, with only the rustling of the wind through the bamboo leaves.
Zi Xi had just finished performing acupuncture on Lu Qianhan for the day and was packing up her medicine box in the outer room.
Lu Qianhan sat by the window in the inner room, holding a book in her hand, her gaze fixed on the outside, lost in thought. The lines of her profile appeared somewhat soft in the light.
Wang Peirong's intrusion shattered this brief tranquility.
She wore a brightly colored brocade cheongsam, adorned with jewels, which clashed with the quiet atmosphere of the courtyard.
As she stepped forward, she immediately spotted Zi Xi, dressed in plain clothes, tidying up her things in the outer room, and her eyes flashed with undisguised contempt.
Then, her gaze fell on the figure sitting by the window in the inner room. She walked a few steps to the door of the inner room, crossed her arms, and raised her chin slightly.
"I heard you've been feeling much better lately, and your complexion is rosier too. It seems you really have this... little thing that brought you good luck!"
Wang Peirong emphasized the words "little thing" heavily, her tone revealing undisguised sarcasm and insult.
Her voice was loud, as if she wanted everyone to hear her.
Lu Qianhan slowly turned his head, his gaze falling on her. The slight gentleness he had shown earlier vanished instantly, replaced by his usual coldness and profundity, devoid of any emotion.
"To ruin the reputation of the whole family for some country woman who is not even presentable... As the head of the Lu family, is it worth it?"
"What kind of family is our Lu family? If word gets out that you, Lu Qianhan, married someone like this, wouldn't people laugh their heads off?"
"Those who know the story say it's a marriage to ward off bad luck, but those who don't might think our Lu family has fallen on hard times!"
Wang Peirong felt a slight chill run down her spine from his gaze, but relying on her seniority and her current anger, she braced herself and continued to mock him.
As she spoke, she glanced at the silent figure out of the corner of her eye, her gaze carrying a pointed meaning.
"Besides, how much good stuff did this marriage for good luck cost? All those precious medicinal herbs and the manpower and supplies allocated to them all came from the Lu family's money!"
"So all this was to serve this thing?"
“The rest of us have worked diligently for the family, but in the end, all the benefits have gone to you sick people who came here to bring good luck! What kind of logic is this!”
The more she talked, the more convinced she felt she was in the right, and her voice grew louder and louder, her finger almost poking at Zi Xi in the outer room.
Lu Qianhan remained silent as he looked at her, his face expressionless, but his eyes grew colder and deeper.
"Are you done talking?"
He seemed to completely ignore Wang Peirong's barrage of questions and complaints, only speaking in a hoarse and low voice during a brief pause in her speech.
"What kind of attitude is this?! Lu Qianhan, I am your elder!"
"Is this how you treat your elders when they speak to you?!"
Wang Peirong was taken aback by his three casual words, and her anger flared even more.
"Then you're a noisy elder."
Lu Qianhan frowned slightly.
"Throw her out."
He raised his hand and pressed his temples wearily, then coldly gave orders to the bodyguards who were hiding somewhere but were definitely waiting nearby.
"yes."
A deep voice came from outside the door.
Two muscular bodyguards in black suits immediately appeared at the door and gestured for Wang Peirong to enter without expression.
The gesture appears polite, but it actually carries an irresistible force.
Wang Peirong could hardly believe her eyes. She was, after all, the eldest daughter-in-law of the third branch of the Lu family, and an elder!
Lu Qianhan actually dared to have someone kick her out?!
This is practically rubbing her face in the dirt!
