Chapter 378 The Secluded Young Master 12 (2/2)

Yang Ruxuan smiled and shook hands with the other party.

She followed closely behind Mr. Wang, pouring him drinks, exchanging pleasantries with clients, and occasionally letting out a melodious laugh.

Every movement was meticulously designed; it was a skill she had spent a long time learning in her previous life.

How to be a good "flower vase" (a pretty face with no eye for attention) and how to enhance your partner's image without stealing the spotlight.

After a few rounds of drinks, Mr. Wang was already slightly tipsy and was having a lively conversation with several business partners.

Yang Ruxuan took the opportunity to slip away to the food area, wanting to catch her breath.

She picked up a glass of champagne and took a small sip.

This was her favorite brand in her past life, but now it tastes bitter.

Just as she lowered her guard, a slight commotion arose at the entrance of the banquet hall.

Yang Ruxuan subconsciously looked up, and then froze.

Gu Hongyuan and his wife entered the venue.

Gu Hongyuan was as dignified and aloof as ever, dressed in a well-tailored dark suit, his steps steady.

Madam Gu, on the other hand, wore a dark green cheongsam with a beige mink shawl, looking elegant and noble.

She linked arms with her husband, a polite smile on her face, and slowly scanned the entire venue.

Yang Ruxuan's heart started pounding wildly, almost bursting out of her chest.

She instinctively took a step back, trying to hide behind the crowd.

It's too early; she's not ready to face the Gu family, especially Mrs. Gu.

She turned her back to the entrance, pretending to be interested in the desserts in the food area, but her fingers trembled uncontrollably.

"Calm down, Yang Ruxuan, calm down."

"They may not even notice you, and even if they do, you have nothing to do with the Gu family now."

She said to herself.

"Oh, isn't this Miss Lin?"

A slightly sarcastic female voice sounded behind her.

Yang Ruxuan turned around and saw a familiar face.

She is Mrs. Zhang, a regular at Mrs. Gu's tea parties in her previous life, a noblewoman known for her gossip and snobbery.

"Oh, it's Mrs. Zhang, hello."

She managed to maintain her composure.

"Oh my, I heard you've been doing quite well since you left Young Master Zhao?"

Mrs. Zhang looked her up and down, her gaze lingering on the diamond necklace around her neck for a moment, a meaningful smile playing on her lips.

The voice wasn't loud, but it was enough to attract the attention of several people around.

Yang Ruxuan felt a flush on her face; Mrs. Zhang's implied meaning was all too clear.

"I am now Mr. Wang's assistant."

She tried to explain, but her voice involuntarily lowered.

"Assistant? Tsk, Miss Lin must be really hungry."

"Young Master Zhao to that nouveau riche Wang Jianguo? Miss Lin is really... flexible and adaptable."

Mrs. Zhang chuckled softly.

The whispers around them grew louder.

Yang Ruxuan felt as if she had been stripped naked and stood in front of everyone, with every gaze filled with judgment and mockery.

In her past life, when she was in the Gu family, these people fawned over her, but now they make no attempt to hide their contempt.

Worst of all, she felt a particularly sharp gaze fall upon her.

She slowly turned her head and met Madam Gu's eyes.

Mrs. Gu stood by the champagne tower not far away, holding a glass of red wine in her hand, her gaze calm and unwavering.

She had clearly witnessed everything that had just happened, including Mrs. Zhang's difficult behavior and Yang Ruxuan's embarrassment.

At that moment, Yang Ruxuan wished she could disappear into a crack in the ground.

Madam Gu did not come over, nor did she make any gesture.

She merely glanced at Yang Ruxuan indifferently, then turned her head slightly to continue talking to the woman beside her.

Although she couldn't hear what they were saying, Yang Ruxuan could guess that those high and mighty people were definitely mocking her.

Yang Ruxuan's face turned pale instantly, and the champagne glass in her hand finally slipped from her grasp and fell, shattering on the polished marble floor with a crisp sound.
