The bulletin board at Chongde High School was crowded with senior students.
Sunlight filters through the gaps in the camphor tree leaves, casting dappled shadows on the report card.
"Holy crap! Jiang Yanli is number one in the entire grade? Is she the same Jiang Yanli from our class??"
The sports committee member's shocked voice made the glass of the bulletin board vibrate.
The crowd instantly stirred.
Jiang Yanli and Zi Xi stood on the outside and watched. The name of the first place in the grade was written on Jiang Yanli's name, not Bai Zi Xi's.
"Make way."
Jiang Yanli's voice came from behind, carrying her usual languid tone.
The crowd automatically parted to make way.
He wasn't wearing his school uniform jacket today; the cuffs of his white shirt were rolled up to his elbows, revealing his well-defined forearms.
Standing beside Zi Xi like a knight, the faint scent of mint emanating from him, mixed with the warmth of the sunlight, wafted towards her.
"Hey, second place, do you remember our bet?"
Jiang Yanli stopped in front of the bulletin board, looking at the report card with a mischievous smile.
He cried all night because he had been thinking for too long that day, and Zi Xi took back his free wish.
Today, Jiang Yanli will take back everything that belongs to him!
Back in the classroom, a chorus of jeers and cheers erupted from within.
Zi Xi pursed her lips and walked straight to her seat. She frowned as she looked at the exam paper.
Since that day, she has not seen Chu Baiyi in class. She heard from her classmates that she either dropped out of school or transferred schools.
Even without those external interferences, how could she be three points less than Jiang Yanli?!
Is this the legendary story of a disciple starving his master to death?
She scored 148 in English, but lost 3 points on the essay, which is why she lost 3 points.
Zi Xi opened her notebook of incorrect answers and neatly wrote down the date and the reason for the mistake on the latest page. Her handwriting was as standard as printed text.
A perfect score test paper was suddenly slapped on her desk, covering her notebook of incorrect answers.
"Where did you lose points? Do you want me to check your answers with you?"
Jiang Yanli stood against the light, her hair still damp with sweat from the basketball court.
He was so happy that he played a few matches.
Zi Xi looked up, and sunlight streamed in from behind him, gilding his silhouette with a fuzzy golden edge.
She silently took out a red pen from her pencil case, drew a pig's head on a sticky note, and stuck it on his perfect test paper.
"This is your head, which represents a condition."
Jiang Yanli chuckled as she looked at the red pig's head, then drew a cat's head next to it with a heart in the middle. Suddenly realizing what she'd done, she turned and argued, "That's not right! Aren't there two? Only the top ten get one, but my first place requires two conditions!!!"
"You're mistaken, there's only one."
"I'll grant you one request that I can fulfill."
Zi Xi stared at the red heart for a while, then spoke softly, her voice so calm that no emotion could be discerned.
Jiang Yanli seemed to want to say something more, but the English teacher had already entered the classroom.
He had no choice but to reluctantly twirl the red pen and steal a piece of draft paper from Zi Xi's desk to doodle on.
"Jiang Yanli performed exceptionally well in this quiz!! Let's give her a round of applause!"
The English teacher adjusted his glasses and praised the student before starting to go over the mistakes on the test.
Zi Xi opened the exam paper and tried to concentrate, but her attention was diverted by the draft paper that Jiang Yanli handed her.
