Chapter 203 The Ruthless Patriarch 12 (1/2)

Jin Yue felt her skin burning.

In the last remaining fragments of consciousness, there was the man's distorted face, his fist reeking of cheap alcohol, and the repeated blows of the belt buckle against her forehead, blows that almost made her soul leave her body.

Then all sound was abruptly cut off as if by an invisible hand.

After an unknown amount of time, a faint ray of light pierced through the thick darkness.

Then the senses started to work again.

Jin Yue used all the remaining strength in her body to barely manage to pry open a small gap.

What came into view was a stark white ceiling.

The air was filled with an indescribable smell: the musty smell of old wood and the pungent fragrance of cheap detergent.

Her heart clenched, and a tremendous panic gripped her.

She tried to sit up, but her body felt like it was falling apart, weak and sore. She struggled to turn her stiff neck, her gaze sweeping across the small space.

A narrow single iron bed, covered with cheap sheets with small floral prints, which had been washed and were somewhat faded.

Opposite was an old desk with peeling paint, piled with several thick textbooks with unfamiliar covers, a glass bottle with dried flowers in it, and a small round plastic mirror with worn edges.

In the corner, a simple canvas wardrobe stood open, revealing a few ordinary-looking clothes.

Her throat was parched and burning; she tried to make a sound, but could only manage a few broken breaths.

Just then, the door creaked open.

"Jin Yue? You're awake? Are you feeling any better after your high fever? You scared us to death!"

A girl wearing a loose T-shirt and sweatpants, with her hair in a ponytail, peeked in.

The girl's voice was clear and crisp, full of youthful energy, yet it struck Jin Yue's eardrums like a heavy hammer.

Jin Yue?

Fragmented images flooded her mind: her wearing a carefully chosen silk nightgown, trying to seduce that man.

The man's unfathomable eyes held undisguised disgust and coldness, as if he were looking at a pile of nauseating garbage.

Then there was the father's face, twisted by gambling debts, the burning pain of the belt whipping his body, the suffocating feeling of the rope digging into his flesh, and the greasy smile and nauseating touch of the remarried boss.

Jin Yue suddenly closed her eyes, her nails digging deeply into her palms.

She really died.

She died at the hands of that beastly man.

Jin Yue glanced at the book beside her pillow; the name on the cover was Jin Yue.

So now, it seems she has come back to life in the body of a strange girl named Jin Yue?

"Jin Yue? What's wrong? Has your fever not gone down? Your face is so pale!"

"Have some water first? The doctor said you need to rest well."

Roommate Lin Xiao's voice was full of concern. She walked over quickly, holding a pink plastic water cup in her hand. As she spoke, she put the water cup into Jin Yue's hand.

Jin Yue subconsciously took the water glass.

It has a cheap plastic feel and childish cartoon patterns printed on the cup.

She looked down at the water in the glass, which was swaying slightly, and her blurry reflection was visible on the clear surface.

A young, completely unfamiliar, and ordinary face.

It was no longer her delicate face.

Jin Yue is a poor student who lost both her parents and was left with only a small apartment.

This realization made Jin Yue's stomach churn.

If you're going to let her be reborn, why not let her be reborn into a wealthy family?!

Despite her discomfort, she sipped warm water slowly under Lin Xiao's watchful gaze.

The water was lukewarm and had a plastic smell.

"Here, you haven't looked in the mirror this morning, have you? Your complexion looks terrible. Do you want to put some of my BB cream on later? It's cheap, but the coverage is pretty good."
