Chapter 215 The Ruthless Patriarch 24 (1/2)

Since her reputation was ruined at school, Jin Yue has moved out of the dormitory and is now living in a cramped old apartment.

Jin Yue was caught up in the morning rush hour crowd, with people in front of and behind her being squeezed together like fish in a sardine can.

This kind of school time lasts four hours every day, and each time it is a slow torture of Jin Yue's willpower.

She walked through the noisy streets and around the alleyway that smelled of overnight garbage, and entered the old residential building with its peeling paint.

All Jin Yue's parents left behind was a small apartment in a slum.

The stairwell was dimly lit and perpetually filled with a damp, musty smell, mixed with the cooking fumes emanating from each household.

It's called a home, but it's just a small apartment that's been forcibly divided in two, and it's pitifully cramped inside.

After placing a small folding dining table and two plastic chairs, there is almost no room to step.

Despite the cramped interior, she had to rent out half of it because she didn't have the money.

The room was filled with the unfamiliar scent of shampoo, a sweet and cloying fragrance, the brand that Xiaoya, the girl who shared the apartment with me, often used.

"Sister Yue, you're back?"

"Was the subway crowded today? I saw a video yesterday where someone's shoes got crushed in the crowd, it cracked me up, hahaha!"

The sound of water stopped. Xiaoya, wrapped in a bath towel, her wet hair dripping water, poked her head out to greet everyone with a carefree smile on her face.

These words sounded particularly harsh.

Jin Yue forced a smile, barely managing to respond.

She went straight into her room and closed the door behind her.

The thin door panel blocked out all the sounds from the outside, but it couldn't block out the omnipresent feeling of confinement.

The cramped space, the roommate who speaks rudely, the ever-present noise of traffic outside the window, and the long, despairing commute to school.

What exactly did her rebirth bring her?

God gave her a second chance, allowing her to completely break free from her suffocating family of origin and to have the opportunity to get to know Pei Mozhi again.

She once thought it was a great blessing, and even felt a kind of ecstatic joy at surviving a catastrophe.

She thought she could finally control her destiny, and even if she lived in poverty, at least things would turn out for the better.

But what is the reality?

A strong wave of bitterness rushed into Jin Yue's nasal cavity, and her eyes instantly became hot.

Besides housing, there's also the problem of not having enough money.

So she found a job as a supermarket cashier near her home.

But soon, she was fired after being complained about by those difficult customers.

"How do you even know how to do things?! We can't possibly serve a Buddha like you!"

The manager threw her salary in front of her and humiliated her!

Such humiliation did not make her give up on working; the lack of money forced her to face reality.

The termination of my fifth job was, though belated, inevitable.

"Ms. Jin, we regret to inform you that your performance during the probationary period did not meet the requirements, so you do not need to come in tomorrow."

The HR manager pushed the resignation form in front of her, speaking in a flat tone as if reading a product manual.

"You've fired me in less than a month?!"

Jin Yue looked at the HR manager in disbelief.

Although typist work doesn't require much skill, she had worked diligently for the past two weeks, her hands even developing calluses from typing, and yet they still wanted to fire her!

"How dare you say that? Your spelling error rate is the highest in your group!! And you're always late or leaving early!"

"If you're this lazy now, which company would dare hire an intern like you?"
