On the muddy mountain road, he held her hand tightly.
He also put the cold steamed bun back into her hand.
And then there was the final glimpse of his despairing face.
Countless fragmented memories surged forth.
The blurry figure instantly became clear.
The name she had forgotten made her blurt out: "Chen...Chen Li!!"
For Shen Li, that sound made his whole world seem to stand still for a moment.
The sounds of gunfire and fighting all disappeared.
Shen Li suddenly turned around and looked at Zi Xi.
Zi Xi's face was pale, but her eyes were no longer distant and wary as before; instead, they were filled with immense shock and bewilderment.
She called his name!
It wasn't this unfamiliar gentleman, but Chen Li.
"Xixi, is it...is that you?"
Shen Li's voice trembled so badly that he could hardly believe his ears or be sure.
"It's you...it really is, right? You've remembered who I am!"
Overwhelmed by immense joy, he felt no pain from the gunshot wound in his back.
He didn't care about the remaining enemies around him, nor did he care that he was bleeding. He just held her tightly, as if he wanted to meld her into his bones and never be separated from her again.
Those usually crazed eyes were now overflowing with tears of joy at regaining what they had lost, and tears that brought them to the brink of collapse.
Zi Xi rubbed her bound wrists, staring blankly at his face so close to hers, speechless.
Her previous memories gave her a splitting headache, making it impossible for her to think.
The stench of blood had not yet dissipated from the warehouse, and the gunshot wound on Shen Li's back had only received emergency treatment.
He stubbornly refused to go to the hospital, instead taking Zixi back to his secluded, heavily guarded penthouse apartment in City A.
Zi Xi sat uncomfortably on the huge sofa in the living room, draped in the blanket that Chen Li had forcefully wrapped around her, her face still pale.
Fragments of memories belonging to the little fool in her mind clashed and intertwined wildly with her real-life perceptions, bringing waves of tearing pain.
She did remember their time together in the Abyss, and his protection.
She also remembered the resolute way she pushed him away when they fell off the cliff, and she remembered her complete dependence on him.
But now it's like having two personalities. Zi Xi remembers her previous self, but she is also a completely new person.
She wasn't that silly girl who relied on Shen Li wholeheartedly.
Shen Li knelt before her, holding her hand tightly despite the bleeding wound on his back.
Those eyes held the ecstatic joy of regaining what was lost, and an almost overwhelming obsession that threatened to consume her.
"Xixi, how much do you remember?"
He called Zi Xi's name over and over again, his fingertips trembling with excitement, the force so strong it hurt her.
However, Zi Xi felt a sense of unfamiliarity when she looked at the handsome but pale man in front of her, whose eyes were filled with wild joy.
In fact, now it seems that Shen Li is not the person who used to protect her.
The current Shen Li is a madman with immense power who treats human life as worthless and whose mental state is clearly extremely unstable.
Moreover, the undisguised, almost pathological possessiveness in his eyes made her instinctively want to escape.
"Mr. Shen, you're hurting me."
Zi Xi forcefully pulled her hand back. Even with her previous memories, she still avoided this dangerous man.
"pain?"
Chen Li's hand froze in mid-air, the ecstasy in his eyes solidified, and was gradually replaced by a deeper sinister look.
"Do you know how much it hurt when I watched you fall? Do you know how I've been getting through this?"
Shen Li twitched the corners of his mouth, his smile somewhat distorted.
