Night falls quickly.
The village gradually became quiet, with only the occasional barking of dogs and croaking of frogs.
On Junze's side, the disciples had already lit two fires in the open space left by the tents for lighting.
After the fires were set up, the twelve disciples gathered around one of them in unison. They then pointed to another fire and said to Junze, "Master, there are too many of us here. We can't seat anyone else. Why don't you and Junior Sister sit around that fire?"
Jun Ze and Shen Yao both raised their eyebrows, not sure if they already knew something. Such a deliberate arrangement was too... obvious.
So, they walked silently to another campfire, sat down slowly, and looked at each other tacitly, with each other's eyes understanding what the other meant: Did they know?
But the next second, they heard Yin Lang and Jiang Qi screaming over there, saying that they were being squeezed, and then they quickly stood up and walked towards them.
Yin Lang came over, grinning, and sat down next to Jun Ze, saying, "Master, it's too crowded over there. I'll come over and join you."
Jiang Qi, who arrived a step later than him, quietly sat down beside him and said, "Master, I'm here too."
Jun Ze nodded, but he was not unhappy. After all, there were so many people here, and he had no intention of doing anything eye-catching or saying anything private with Shen Yao.
However, this also proves that they probably don’t know about his and Shen Yao’s relationship as Taoist partners. Otherwise, even if it was crowded over there, they would not want to sit over there.
Chen Yao looked at her eldest and eighth senior brothers, whose eyes kept shifting between her and Jun Ze, and seemed to be thinking about something.
After a while, she felt a little hungry, so she went to the tent to get some dry food and asked her brothers if they wanted to eat some together.
Yin Lang and Jiang Qi waved their hands repeatedly, indicating that they didn't need it.
Chen Yao asked the senior brothers over there again, and they all waved their hands and said no.
Yin Lang explained, "Junior sister, we have all been fasting and don't need to eat on weekdays, so you can just eat by yourself."
Chen Yao nodded, then handed some of the dry biscuits and dried meat in her hand to Junze.
Seeing this, Yin Lang was about to tell her that his master had also started fasting, but then - he saw his master calmly taking the dry biscuits and dried meat she handed over, and his posture seemed very skilled.
Yin Lang:!!!
Fortunately, he didn't say anything.
Junze pinched the dry and hard pancake in his hand and frowned slightly, wondering when she had ever eaten something so hard. Wouldn't it hurt?
He turned around and looked at her, saying, "Don't eat them yet. These dry biscuits are too hard. Wait until I bake them until they are softer before you eat them."
Chen Yao's eyes widened, and she swallowed the small piece of dry pancake in her mouth, then replied: "It's okay, Master. I have eaten harder things. This dry pancake is nothing compared to me."
Moreover, this dry pancake becomes soft after chewing for a while and is completely edible. It is much better than some of the hard and strange foods she had eaten before.
But as soon as she finished speaking, Junze's face turned red.
He pinched the dry pancake in his hand a little helplessly, wanting to say something but not opening his mouth.
Cough cough cough...
Was he really crazy? What was he imagining? What did his thoughts have to do with this hard, dry pancake?
Seeing him blushing and motionless, Chen Yao asked, "Master, what's the matter? Don't you want to eat this dry pancake? Then give it to me and I'll save it for later."
Junze squeezed the dry pancake in his hand and said, "No, I don't want to eat it. I'll eat it now."
As he spoke, he took a bite of the dry pancake in his hand, but the moment he put his mouth into it, he froze because... he couldn't bite it at all. Jun Ze frowned slightly, took another hard bite, and then continued to push hard. This time, he finally managed to bite it off.
Yin Lang and Jiang Qi, who were standing by, were stunned.
If they saw it correctly, the veins on Master's forehead were almost popping out from chewing that piece of dry pancake, which shows how hard it is to chew.
But when had they ever seen their master fight so hard? Just for a dry pancake, would he risk his life like that?
So, is the master trying so hard to avoid embarrassing his junior sister?
What a good master...
Junze took a bite that was too big, and now his cheeks are still a little numb and his forehead is a little shaking.
He glanced at Chen Yao who was happily nibbling the food in small bites, and thought to himself: He should also nibble in smaller bites later, like her, maybe it would be easier.
Fortunately, these dry pancakes were relatively small, and Junze finally finished the whole one in his hand despite the difficulty.
After eating, Chen Yao and Jun Ze washed their hands with magic, and then started chatting with Yin Lang, Jiang Qi and others.
Yin Lang praised Chen Yao and said, "Junior sister, you have really good teeth. You can chew such hard things."
Chen Yao smiled awkwardly: "Ahem, I think Master's teeth are pretty good."
Jun Ze glanced at Chen Yao resentfully and fell silent.
…
As the night deepened, the fire in the firepit also grew dimmer.
Seeing that the time was almost up, Junze arranged the order and rotation time intervals for the disciples to take the night shift, and asked them to prepare to start the night shift.
After Yin Lang understood all the arrangements, he suddenly stopped him and said, "Master, how about we take turns on duty tonight? You and Junior Sister can rest well first and don't need to take turns."
