Jiang Jun, Zuo Rong, and Xu Shao took a closer look and immediately understood what Tian Yang meant.
"you mean?"
"That's right, this message was sent in the evening. Although today is the seventh day we've lived in this world of rules, according to what's said here about 'the next seven days,' it's clear that it starts from the 25th, so—"
Tian Yang didn't say anything more, but the meaning was self-evident: today's notice was meant to lure them out so that they could be caught in one fell swoop.
The countdown on the radio had only ten seconds left.
"Ten, nine, eight..."
"What should we do?" Xu Shao gripped the utility knife tightly in his hand.
"Remember the last rule? Since things have come to this, we have no choice but to go to the library."
With that, Jiang Jun left the crowd and stepped onto the library steps.
At this moment, the countdown on the loudspeaker had ended, and the campus buses closed their doors and began to slowly start moving.
As Jiang Jun and the others stood on the steps, they suddenly remembered a fact they had overlooked: when the school was in session, only the east gate was open.
The south and north gates, as indicated in the notice, have remained closed.
The four men stared intently at the bus in front of them, watching it accelerate and speed towards the iron gate to the north.
The next second, "Bang!" the car crashed straight into the iron gate. After a brief sway, the entire car body disintegrated into pieces.
Xu Shao and Zuo Rong instinctively hugged their arms, their bodies trembling.
Next, a series of violent collisions rang out, and within minutes, the once bustling campus returned to silence.
However, the story did not end there. To the horror of Jiang Jun and the others, the car fragments gradually coalesced and transformed into giant robots.
"Thump! Thump!" They stomped on the ground with heavy thuds as they slowly shuffled toward them.
"Run!" Tian Yang shouted, forcefully pushing open the library door.
The others quickly recovered from their shock and ran into the library.
The entire campus had become a hellish place, and they could only hide here temporarily, praying that the last rule was true.
The library was as bright as day at night, and the clean and bright reading room allowed them to rest for a while. Jiang Jun casually took a book from the bookshelf.
The book cover has four characters written on it: "Strange Tales of Monsters and Demons". The white characters stand out against the black paper.
As he looked at those words, a series of images flashed through Jiang Jun's mind, too fast for him to grasp.
Skipping the preface and table of contents, the first chapter of the main text introduces a type of yokai: the dream yokai.
Dream demons, as the name suggests, can sneak into dreams and make the dreamer believe in the events in the dream.
Dreams can also be shaped according to one's needs. In ancient times, there was a young nobleman who, in order to win the heart of a beautiful woman, asked a dream demon to perform a ritual to create a dream of their past lives. When the woman awoke, she was indeed deeply in love with him, and the two eventually became a couple. However, the dream demon is inherently mischievous and rarely leaves the world. It creates dreams only to satisfy its own perverse pleasures and often harms people in their dreams.
Looking at these words, Jiang Jun felt a chill run down his spine. He suddenly remembered the dream he had the night before last.
In his dream, he and Yun Qing met through a blind date and then secretly pledged their lives to each other.
Could it be that all of this was the work of the dream demon?
But what is the purpose? What is Yun Qing's relationship with the Dream Demon? Or is she even the Dream Demon described in the book?
"Brother Jiang, what are you looking at? You look so serious." Xu Shao came over and patted him on the shoulder.
"It's nothing, just browsing." Jiang Jun subconsciously closed the book.
The reading room they were in was on the second floor. The group stood by the window and looked out. The monster that the bus had transformed into was rampaging everywhere, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Fortunately, for some reason, they seemed not to see the library and did not come this way.
"Let's just make do here for the night." Tian Yang moved a few books to the table to use as pillows.
He was always carefree; lying on the table, he soon began to breathe evenly.
Zuo Rong and Xu Shao were amazed by what they saw and followed suit.
Only Jiang Jun, with something on his mind, didn't want to rest.
"You all rest first, I'll keep watch for you."
"Huh?" No one else had thought of this. Xu Shao suggested, "Then I'll set an alarm, and you can take over later."
“No need,” Jiang Jun refused. “You can rest assured. I just can’t sleep. It seems safe here, so it doesn’t really matter whether we keep watch or not.”
"Oh, alright then, you should get some rest too." Xu Shao and Zuo Rong didn't stand on ceremony any longer, covered themselves with their coats and closed their eyes.
Seeing this, Jiang Jun walked to the corner and picked up the book he had been reading earlier.
This book records a wide variety of demons, but apart from dream demons, none of them are particularly special.
Jiang Jun flipped through the pages quickly, when suddenly he stopped, as if he had seen something that overturned his understanding.
It turned out that the page in the book had three big characters written on it—"Painted Skin Demon".
The Painted Skin Demon is fond of beautiful women and feeds on yang energy.
Yang energy? Upon seeing these two words, a series of enchanting images instantly flooded his mind, almost making him lose his balance.
Yunqing's birthmark, which fades day by day, and her increasingly beautiful appearance, all point to one fact.
At this moment, Jiang Jun's mind was in turmoil.
What should they do? Can they return to the real world? Was this world actually created by Yun Qing? If they go back, will she suffer a backlash? And will they ever be able to meet again?
A series of questions lingered in his mind, making Jiang Jun's brain feel like it was about to explode.
