The Gu woman stared at the familiar yet unfamiliar face in the bronze mirror, momentarily lost in thought.
Bright red rouge accentuated her small, delicate lips; her meticulously drawn eyebrows curved into beautiful arcs; and a golden veil partially obscured her face before the pearl-studded phoenix crown. Her fiery red wedding gown was embroidered with lifelike colorful clouds, and she was adorned with silks, jewels, and precious stones...
The Gu woman felt like she was dreaming.
She's getting married... oh no, in ancient times, it should be said that she's becoming husband and wife.
She's getting married? In just over ten minutes, she'll be wearing her veil and getting into the bridal sedan chair...
Gu Nu always thought she was incredibly generous, and all those ancient rituals like the Three Letters and Six Rites were readily available to her after she told Long Xun on the day of the battle between Ximen Chuixue and Ye Gucheng that she was going to marry Hua Manlou.
The Hua family and the Imperial Preceptor's Mansion followed the proper procedures of betrothal, name inquiry, auspicious date selection, gift exchange, and wedding date setting. Today is the actual wedding day, the day of the wedding ceremony.
She and Chen Ziqi were both alone and helpless in this world. They didn't understand these things either, thinking that a wedding ceremony was all it took. But in fact, every step of an ancient wedding was essential; if any part was missing, it was an unapproved marriage.
Gu Nu heard that if it weren't for Long Xun arranging things for her, the two elders of the Hua family originally intended to treat her as a distant relative and perform these rituals to ensure that she would not be wronged.
The Hua family are all good people.
The witch, already seated in the bridal sedan chair, sat lost in thought as it swayed back and forth. She wore a veil, her head bowed, and could only see the hem of her wedding dress, a pair of embroidered shoes, and the apple she held in her hand.
Even when faced with something as seemingly impossible as time travel, Gu Nu never imagined that she would end up with the popular heartthrob, Hua Manlou. It was truly an unbelievable thing.
She meant that she did like Hua Manlou. On her first visit to Baihualou, she was knocked away by Yin Chen and landed in Hua Manlou's arms. When she looked up, she was struck in the heart by his gentle face that seemed to radiate holy light.
She had never met such a gentle person.
After finding out who he was, she immediately suppressed her budding feelings.
A male god is someone that no one can touch; she just needs to keep an eye on him!
So even though she later became friends with Hua Manlou, she didn't think much about it and treated him just like a good friend.
Hua Manlou is a very comfortable person to be around.
Her friends Long Xun and Chen Ziqi were people who could go for days without speaking to each other, so she would naturally go out to play with others when she was bored, and thus became good friends with Hua Manlou, who stayed in the capital.
Gu Nu has always been a content and happy person. She is not greedy, does not ask for much, and will even occasionally push away things that she feels should not belong to her.
So becoming friends with Hua Manlou was already an unexpected joy for her, and she carefully maintained her distance, suppressing her feelings.
Then, at the Pingnan Prince's Mansion, when Long Xun went to seek justice for Chen Ziqi, he almost beat up the assassins who suddenly rushed out. The spray of blood rained down and scared the Gu woman, who had never killed anyone before and at most had only beaten people up, out of her wits.
Chen Ziqi led her back to the rented courtyard where they were temporarily staying, next door to Hua Manlou.
After washing herself clean, she told Chen Ziqi to go to sleep first, then ran to the wall in the yard, hugged herself, and started crying.
She was really scared.
I am very, very scared.
She didn't know how long she had been crying, but she sensed a somewhat familiar presence beside her.
Hua Manlou pulled her into his arms and gently said to her, "Cry, it will make you feel better."
She then burst into tears.
She said she missed home and talked about what happened today. She said she knew Long Xun hadn't done anything wrong, but she was still so scared, as if Long Xun could just turn around and kill her so coldly.
She said she couldn't believe she had such thoughts, that she felt terrible about herself, and that her hometown wasn't like that, where everyone's life is precious.
She kept repeating that she had no home anymore, and could never go back...
She said so much that it wasn't until she had cried enough and finally calmed down that she realized she had soaked Hua Manlou's clothes with tears.
Hua Manlou told her that if she didn't have a home, he was willing to give her a complete one.
...
The Hua family was entertaining guests. Hua Manlou, dressed in red, was smiling without his usual god-like demeanor. Instead, he looked so happy that he was almost silly. After his wedding ceremony with the Gu woman, he stayed behind to greet the guests, but everyone could see that he was somewhat absent-minded, looking forward to a wonderful night with his little wife.
Lu Xiaofeng arrived, along with many other martial arts figures.
Ximen Chuixue, Ye Gucheng, Gong Jiu, and Yin Bei did not come; they only sent gifts to offer their congratulations. Gong Jiu and Yin Bei's presence was due to their social status, but Ximen Chuixue and Ye Gucheng's aura was completely incompatible with such a joyous occasion as a wedding; they might be mistaken for having come to steal the bride.
Long Xun wasn't suitable to come either. He only personally delivered a gift and offered his blessings before leaving quickly. Yin Chen followed him and also gave him something.
A few days later, Yin Chen returned alone, looking dejected, and moved into the Imperial Preceptor's residence.
When the Gu woman found the things that Long Xun had sent that day, she found a letter inside and immediately understood what had happened.
Long Xun left, returning to where he belonged.
The letter he left behind permanently sealed Gu Nu's two resurrection skills the moment it was unfolded. Furthermore, he told Gu Nu that he had made a contract for Gu Nu, Chen Ziqi, and Yin Bei in the past few days.
