Chapter 33 Reborn as a Dragon in the Zombie World (Part 4)

Some of the older buildings do not have natural gas pipelines installed and still use gas cylinders.

After Long Xun and Xila placed the rescued evolved humans and ordinary people on the beds in the room, Long Xun left Xila to watch over the two of them while he took Yin Chen to collect supplies and check if there were any other living people around.

Despite being so close to the base, it's unlikely that anyone could remain there.

After getting away from the evolved being that the zombies avoided, the number of zombies on the streets gradually increased, and the shops along the roadside were in ruins, with two or three zombies lying there with their brains smashed and completely dead.

Long Xun and Yin Chen walked through the streets, slicing any zombies that rushed to block their way in two with a single sword strike. Their passage was a bloodbath, a scene of utter carnage.

Finding a shopping mall nearby, Long Xun switched from his heavy sword to a light sword and began shopping in various places.

The space in the 3rd system is large, but if you put a mountain in it, it's only one grid. It's not very big either. Each grid can hold twenty different kinds of medicine, and at most you can only hold a few hundred kinds. When you take them out, they're not even enough for a large package.

For convenience, Long Xun directly merged his personal space into the system's inventory. Except for the hundred-acre area near the spirit spring, the rest of the vast, barren land was included in the system's inventory. This resulted in Long Xun's inventory currently only having two slots: one was a space with a spirit spring, air, and normal time flow, and the other was a space with nothing and frozen time.

The city hasn't been dead for long; the water, electricity, and gas haven't all been shut down yet, which is something to be very thankful for.

Besides canned goods, snacks, and ready-to-eat foods stored at room temperature, frozen foods stored in the refrigerator can also be collected.

Long Xun didn't know if anyone would pass through this city, so he left some of the things that could be preserved for future generations, and swept the rest into his spatial storage. He didn't plan to travel alone with Yin Chen and Xila, but rather to rescue people as he went. If possible, he would even establish a safe base.

He feels more at ease researching things within his own sphere of influence. Under normal circumstances, he is willing to trust humans, but when there is no room for error, he will have reservations about them.

While the interests of the collective are important, the selfishness inherent in human nature makes them more likely to take chances for their own benefit, constantly thinking, "I'm just doing myself a favor," "I didn't do anything, it's a trivial matter," "So it'll be fine," "Even if I get caught, it's not a big deal," "I didn't harm anyone"...

However, the accumulation of small things can lead to the collapse of the collective interest.

Even a one-day delay can result in the loss of countless lives, a disaster not only for humans but also for various animals and plants.

After clearing out half of the food section, Long Xun went to other sections and collected all sorts of tools, clothes, sturdy and durable travel bags, backpacks, hiking shoes suitable for long journeys, tents, mattresses, bedding, and even books... He collected everything he thought was useful.

During his shopping spree, Long Xun also saw some zombies. Some of them were still wearing work uniforms, some had half their heads off, and others were probably shoppers...

As long as they don't block his way, Long Xun won't actively kill these zombies. Just like in every post-apocalyptic world, the zombies' brains do indeed contain crystal cores, which are very useful enhancement tools for superhumans, but Long Xun is unwilling to take those things.

They were once vibrant lives, but now they've become like this.

There are always some beings who are ungrateful and attempt to overthrow the world, yet they cannot see the harm they have caused. They even think they are great because they can cause such harm.

How ridiculous.

Yin Chen crawled on the ground using both hands and feet, moving lightly beside Long Xun. He felt the aura of the person next to him suddenly turn cold, and he couldn't help but shrink back and gently tug at the hem of his clothes that he was tightly clutching in his hands.

Long Xun looked down following the force. The boy's big, pure eyes were looking at him. The fluorescent light above his head was still on, reflecting into his eyes and making them look like two pools of clear water. At this moment, however, there was a hint of fear in those beautiful eyes.

"Dragon..." The boy's voice was soft and indistinct, and it took a lot of effort to understand what he was saying.

Long Xun gently patted his head, reached out and took his hand, and whispered, "Don't be afraid."

Yin Chen stared blankly at Long Xun. His palm was broad and strong, warm and dry, unlike the coldness that Long Xun himself exuded. Just holding that hand made him feel at ease.

After a while, Yin Chen grinned and slowly curled his fingers to take his hand.

Long Xun held his hand and continued shopping. When they saw some suitable clothes, Long Xun picked out a set of loose and comfortable casual clothes and helped Yin Chen change into them.

Fortunately, although the child was somewhat animalistic, he was also clever enough that when he noticed that Long Xun and the two people he had rescued were wearing similar clothes, he did not reach out his claws to tear the clothes.

After cleaning the mall, I cleaned the warehouse, and after that, I went to various shops...

Human knowledge and cultural heritage are extremely valuable, and Long Xun, having the means, naturally strives to preserve as much of it as possible.

Unfortunately, they didn't encounter any living people along the way.

Long Xun sighed and did not insist.

...

"Sanliang, I think I just saw someone flying in the sky?"
