Chapter 1 The Mother of the End Times (Part 1)

Zhou Pingsheng was a somewhat influential celebrity during the Republic of China era. Although he divorced his wife and married a new one, he still cared for his ex-wife out of affection, and was praised for his loyalty and righteousness.

But the worst thing you can do is make a comparison.

Bai Yan's annulment of her engagement with the Zhong family at the charity gala in Xicheng that day became a hot topic in Xicheng for many years, and it continued to gain traction as her status rose.

Zhou Pingsheng's first wife was also literate. When she learned that Bai Yan was just like her, and had even had her feet bound when she was fifteen, yet she still achieved such great success and was even more impressive than Zhou Pingsheng, it greatly shocked her.

In her eyes, Zhou Pingsheng was already an extremely capable person, so when Zhou Pingsheng said that she was not good enough for him and was inferior to him, she also believed that it was true.

She and Zhou Pingsheng had attended several banquets together before, and everyone looked at her with eyes that made her feel ashamed. People around her also sympathized with Zhou Pingsheng, thinking that such a capable man was wronged to marry someone as clueless as her.

She had thought about studying and trying to catch up with him, but Zhou Pingsheng said that someone like her couldn't learn.

What kind of person is she?

She hadn't figured it out yet, but she left the Zhou family because she didn't want to serve Zhou Pingsheng and his wife anymore.

Zhou Pingsheng scolded her, cursing her that a woman with bound feet would have no chance of surviving outside, and that if she honestly cooked and did laundry for a family, he would at least give her a bite to eat.

She shook her head, asking Zhou Pingsheng to return her dowry from the beginning of their marriage, but Zhou Pingsheng refused, scolding her for being unreasonable in various angry tones.

But he couldn't keep her confined at home like before.

She was indeed a woman with bound feet, but Prime Minister Bai established a fund to provide surgery for women with bound feet.

Anyone with a local household registration can apply to have surgery at the hospital. This money needs to be repaid to the government within three years. It is interest-free within three years, and interest will be charged after three years.

But the interest rate isn't high; even someone who sweeps the streets could afford to pay it back.

The current surgical conditions are sufficient to ensure that she can move and work normally after the foot-amputation surgery. Of course, given her condition, aesthetic improvement is unlikely.

She first went to have her feet abducted, but during her recovery period, she found it difficult to support herself due to a lack of money.

She needed money; she wanted her dowry. But she was hesitant. Zhou Pingsheng had always been her protector. Yet, she suddenly thought of Premier Bai, who had killed the villains who had humiliated her and her birth mother during her most difficult time.

She didn't want to kill anyone; she only wanted her dowry for her wedding.

She filed a lawsuit and got her dowry back. When they went to court, Zhou Ping was so angry that his face turned red and he wanted to throw her dowry at her.

However, the judge declared that the two people's property needed to be redistributed because Zhou Pingsheng had come to Xicheng with her dowry and gradually made his fortune, so she took half of his family property.

She didn't see Zhou Pingsheng for the next few years, until she received news of his execution.

It's said that she did something bad to the Prime Minister, like he was a spy for foreigners or something, but she didn't really know.

She used her dowry to open a tailor shop called Yunwei Tailor Shop. Later, as her business flourished, many people called her Tailor Luo.

...

Bai Yan's soul traversed the turbulent flow of time and space, and before she could even recover, she was suddenly sucked in by the world barrier.

Her head was throbbing terribly, and she pressed her hand tightly against her temples.

Without any buffer, she was suddenly thrust into a new world. If her soul hadn't been strong enough, she probably would have been obliterated by the spatial turbulence.

She rested her hand on her temple, and only after the sharp pain in her head subsided did she look up and survey her surroundings.

Research lab?

Looking at the familiar exhibition booth and various microscopes, Bai Yan raised her eyebrows slightly. Then, looking down at the research coat she was wearing and the name tag around her neck, she had a guess about her current identity.

"Did you see the meteor shower three days ago?" People around were discussing.

"Yes, I saw it. They say it's a once-in-a-millennium event. I even bought a telescope and went up the mountain with my senior from the physics department to watch it. Haha, I even made a wish, but later my senior said it wasn't a meteor shower, so my wish wouldn't come true."

"It was more than just unreliable! Everyone thought it was a meteor shower, but who knew such a huge meteorite would hit us! My head almost got cracked open!"

Because the meteorite was so large, and coincidentally there was thunder and rain that day, it's unclear whether it was struck by lightning and scattered into many different places.

That's why it's jokingly called a 'meteorite shower'.

"It's really strange. The sky was red for several days after that day. Have you seen those doomsday posts? They all start with a meteorite falling from the sky. Do you think it might be the end of the world?"

"Stop reading apocalyptic novels. If you spend your time on your petri dish and nothing grows, I'll fail along with you."

"Ugh, please stop talking! You're giving me a headache because you're talking about failing me!"

The people speaking were a young couple, who looked to be in their early twenties. Bai Yan listened to their discussion, her eyes lowered in thought.

"Xiao Yan, are you still in a bad mood?" Just then, a female voice rang out from above.

Bai Yan lowered her hand from her temple and said calmly, "It's nothing, I just had a bit of a headache."

The newcomer chuckled softly and glanced at the two young men in front of him: "I'm not like them. Don't worry, I won't say anything."
