Chen Chen looked at Bai Yan with a puzzled expression, and she stammered, "Sister Bai, isn't 'Starlight' our drama?"
Bai Yan looked down at the stage from backstage, her eyes slightly lowered. At that moment, the crew members were announcing to the next group to continue, holding the script. Lu Yuzhi quickly went over and said, "Brother Wang, why is Song Hanzhen's group performing 'Starlight'? That's our group's performance!"
"Huh?" The man called Brother Wang looked at Lu Zhiyu in surprise: "Didn't your Group A and Group B's scenes change on the second day? The mentors have already submitted them several days ago."
"What?!" Lu Zhiyu's voice rose.
Seeing his expression and noticing that the three of them were still wearing the costumes from "Starlight," Brother Wang asked with some surprise, "You guys aren't also performing 'Starlight,' are you?"
Chen Chen glanced at Bai Yan, his face turning pale.
Lu Zhiyu was also flustered and angry, gritting his teeth: "Nobody told us that the show was changed!"
"Damn it, someone's deliberately messing with me!" Lu Zhiyu's emotions were on the verge of collapse.
If the play is changed at the last minute, he'll definitely be eliminated! He kicked the signboard next to him hard.
Chen Chen was startled and quickly grabbed Bai Yan's arm.
Bai Yan patted her twice reassuringly, then looked at Brother Wang and asked, "We can't perform 'Starlight' anymore, right?"
"Of course, the stage props and lighting have already been set up. Even if the director allows you to perform the same thing, there won't be enough time to rearrange the props."
Bai Yan lowered her eyes, as if pondering something.
Brother Wang hesitated and asked, "Should we still talk to the director? The stage is simpler, there should still be time."
Lu Yuzhi glanced at Bai Yan again. During rehearsals, Bai Yan had always been their pillar of support.
"No need." Bai Yan looked up: "We'll just act out the play in the script."
Lu Zhiyu completely gave up: "Are you crazy? Bai Yan, are you insane?!" How can a play that hasn't even been rehearsed be performed?
"Forget it, whatever role I play, I'm doomed anyway!"
"Damn it, it was Liu Yan who messed with me! I'm going to settle the score with her!" As her mentor, how could she not know what kind of play they were staging?
"Song Han is a star among celebrities. Liu Yan is just trying to promote her. I'm going to make this a huge scandal!"
"Looking for her?" Bai Yan said, "Making a scene? The director won't deal with Liu Yan, he'll only deal with you."
The entertainment industry is a massive capital market, and variety shows are even more so. How can the combined weight of her and Lu Zhiyu compare to the weight of a single program?
Bai Yan didn't have time to coax him. She just gave him a cold look and said, "If you want to act, then come and rehearse. If you don't want to act, then Chen Chen and I will go on stage together."
After saying that, he walked towards the rehearsal room. Lu Zhi gritted his teeth and followed him after all, thinking he had nothing to lose.
After arriving at the rehearsal room, Bai Yan pulled up the script and gave it to Chen Chen and Lu Yuzhi: "You have almost an hour left, so you can familiarize yourselves with the script."
Lu Zhiyu was agitated: "An hour? How can that be enough time?" He couldn't even calm down right now.
“There’s still time,” Bai Yan said. “Many classic movie and television scenes are the result of actors’ subconscious reactions when they first faced the camera.”
“Lu Yuzhi, I think you have talent, I believe in you. Do you believe we can create even better results together?” Bai Yan looked at him.
Her eyes seemed to have some kind of magic. Lu Zhiyu thought of the last time they rehearsed: he knew his acting was not good, but when he looked at her, he was immersed in the role... She didn't just play any role convincingly; rather, whatever she played, she became that person.
That was also the first time he experienced the joy of acting.
"Can I really do it?" he asked.
"Of course."
After reassuring him, Bai Yan began to assign tasks: "Your main task is to memorize the positioning and match it with the special effects on stage." She looked at him and said, "Remember, you must memorize it perfectly, otherwise you'll be the one who embarrasses yourself on stage."
Lu Zhiyu remembered it, then scratched his head again: "Anyway, it's like this, so let's just go for it." At least he can show his face, even if he's infamous, he'll still be famous.
He sat to the side with his back turned.
After Chen Chen opened the script, she bit her lip and glanced at Bai Yan, a hint of doubt appearing in her dark eyes: "Sister Bai, are you telling me..."
Bai Yan held out her hand: "Shh."
Chen Chen wisely shut his mouth.
...
By the time the penultimate performance ended, it was almost dark. No matter how much the production team tried to shorten the waiting time, the audience had already watched for five hours, and a few people couldn't sit still and left.
Mu Nian and An were the same; Mu Nian had already taken a nap.
"It's not over yet?" he yawned.
An lowered her eyes, not wanting to pay attention to him. Mu Nian twisted his neck and continued to look at the stage: "These young actors are more talented than sleeping pills. I should have come here to stroll around when I couldn't sleep during the election last month."
The host on stage then introduced the show again, smiling as she announced, "Today's final performance is the fantasy drama 'The Story of West City,' presented by Bai Yan, Lu Yuzhi, and Chen Chen."
On the mentor's panel, Liu Yan adjusted his glasses and pressed a slight smile to his lips: "The Story of West City" is a domestic horror and eerie drama, but it's notoriously bad.
"The Story of West City" is the worst kind of cliché.
Upon hearing the title of the drama, Shen Lian picked up a cup and took a sip of water: "She doesn't need to lift a finger. That's how the entertainment industry is. Bai Yan wants to make a name for herself... how could that be possible?"
A hint of disdain flashed in Chen Lian's eyes.
The backstory of "West Side Story" is that a group of young people who are keen on paranormal events discover that strange noises are coming from a villa in a corner of the city from time to time. Adhering to the spirit of youthful curiosity that killed the cat, they are tempted to commit suicide.
