Chapter 13 A Bound-Foot Housewife in the Republican Era (Thirteen)

Xu Shengtian was shot and should not be moved; he is still on the front lines.

Dean Fang was about to leave with the hospital's medicines and surgical tools when Bai Yan stopped him before he departed: "Dean, I want to go with you."

Dean Fang frowned: "Xiao Yan, that's the front line. Even if the commander-in-chief has taken back the position, the enemy hasn't retreated yet. It's very dangerous there." And she can't get hurt.

Bai Yan shook her head: "Without the commander, Fengyi would not have been able to be defended at all. Dean, he was shot. The soldiers were so anxious, which means it was very dangerous. There are also skilled doctors with the army, but they couldn't do anything about it."

She pleaded, "But I have a way. I can guarantee I'll bring him back one hundred percent!"

Dean Fang looked somewhat hesitant, and Bai Yan continued, "If the dean refuses to take me, I will find a car to go to the front line myself."

Seeing that she was determined, Dean Fang could only nod and say, "Okay."

Ultimately, it was on their own territory, and besides the hospital staff, no one knew that Bai Yan had made the anti-inflammatory medicine.

Besides, she's a young girl, and with this identity as a cover, things should be alright.

Bai Yan and Xiao Qin set off with Dean Fang. The driver who was picking them up saw the two young girls and assumed they were nurses who had come to help.

The front lines were short of medicine, so the hospital also sent some medicines that had already been prepared to be delivered to the front lines by truck.

Bai Yan and Xiao Qin sat together in the cargo compartment of the truck transporting medicine, while the door of another jeep opened, and a person in military uniform inside called out, "Dean Fang, please take this vehicle."

There weren't enough seats in the truck, so Dean Fang nodded and said, "Okay."

He then took his suitcase and got into another jeep.

Bai Yan watched the jeep start, a strange look flashing in her eyes. Xiao Qin, who was beside her, saw her staring blankly ahead and asked, "Dr. Bai, what are you looking at?"

"Something's not right with that car," Bai Yan said.

"Huh?" Xiaoqin asked, puzzled, then looked at the military jeep in front of her. "I can't tell."

Bai Yan added, "It's alright, let's set off first."

Whether it was the effect of drinking that drop of spring water in that nebula space or not, Bai Yan found that her five senses were now far beyond those of ordinary people.

When she concentrated, she could easily hear the ticking sound coming from the car in front of her.

But Bai Yan didn't want to waste time. Rather than explaining to them for ages about the car problem, she figured it would be better to let them see for themselves later.

About two hours later, Bai Yan nudged the back of the truck driver's seat. "Brother, could you please stop the truck? I think I just heard something fall out of the cargo bed."

"The medicine I brought this time is very important; it's even more effective than the anti-inflammatory drugs I gave you last time. It's worth at least $100,000 if sold, so there can't be any mistakes."

Hearing Bai Yan say this, the truck driver didn't dare to delay and immediately stopped the truck.

"Where are the things? Were they turned upside down?"

The jeep in front stopped when it saw the truck stop, and Dean Fang opened the window and asked, "Xiao Yan, what's wrong?"

Bai Yan told the two the same reason: the medicine on the truck seemed to have overturned. Dean Fang and the jeep driver immediately got out to help.

"Where is the medicine?"

The group walked back a few meters along the road, but did not see any fallen medicine.

"Did you hear me wrong—" The truck driver had barely finished speaking when a loud 'boom' rang out, and the jeep in front of him exploded, sending huge flames shooting straight into the sky.

The jeep driver's legs gave way and he sat down on the ground: "My goodness..." If a person were still sitting on it, they would have been roasted alive!

Having escaped death, Dean Fang's face was somewhat pale.

Bai Yan then explained, "What I heard might not have been the sound of something falling. I heard a strange noise, probably from that jeep."

"How come I didn't hear that?" Xiaoqin was still shaken.

"My mom says I have strange ears; I've heard more than other people since I was little."

"No matter what, you saved our lives!" The truck driver looked at Bai Yan gratefully. "Girl, you're like a second mother to me!"

"I'll kowtow to you!"

"You guys are lucky."

Bai Yan didn't have time to acknowledge her son right now; she needed to rush to save lives. "Let's hurry up and get going; the commander's surgery is the priority."

The driver and Dean Fang had just gone through a life-or-death situation, and their legs were a little weak. Bai Yan and Xiao Qin gave up their seats in the car and sat in the back of the truck.

Nearly an hour later, they arrived at Xu Shengtian's position before dark.

Dean Fang directed the doctors who had come to provide support to carefully move the supplies and medicines they had brought into the warehouse.

"Dean Fang, you brought penicillin again?" a male voice rang out.

Bai Yan and Xiao Qin sat in the back of the truck handing out medicine. The hospital staff introduced them as Staff Officer Shen.

"The medicine you sent last time really saved our lives!" He looked at the carriage and pointed to the medicines being moved back and forth to the war zone: "Which of these is penicillin? This stuff is too precious and must be kept safe."

"I'll help you."

Dean Fang said, "This anti-inflammatory drug is somewhat different from penicillin; it—"

"Dean, the surgical instruments and medicines have all been moved to the hospital. Let's go see the Commander-in-Chief first." Bai Yan jumped off the truck and looked at Staff Officer Shen: "The Commander-in-Chief's injury should be the most important thing, right, Staff Officer Shen?"

A fleeting hint of embarrassment crossed Staff Officer Shen's face, but he continued, "So I want to help you get to see the Commander-in-Chief as soon as possible."
