Chapter 15 The Unlucky First Wife (Fifteen)

Bai Yan was in charge of most of the affairs at the research institute, and it was two hours later when she finished.

A knocking sound rang out, and a pretty girl in a lab coat knocked on the door of the break room. Shen Cong quickly ran over and opened the door.

The girl smiled at Shen Cong, then looked at Ji Bei inside the room: "Mr. Ji, the doctor asked me to take you to the laboratory."

When Ji Bei heard that they were going to find her, he followed the girl without saying a word.

"Teacher, can I come along?" Shen Cong quickly raised his hand. He was all alone in the lounge, and it must be so boring.

“Mr. Shen, you are a guest of the doctor, so of course you are welcome to visit,” the girl said with a smile.

Mr. Shen?

Having not yet graduated from school and rarely being addressed as "Mr." in formal settings, Shen Cong suddenly perked up and followed behind his brother Ji with his back straight.

Originally, there was a guard every three steps, but the closer you got to the central laboratory, the stricter the defense became.

The 'glass door' whose material was indistinguishable, and the soldiers carrying fully armed guns, made Ji Bei and Shen Cong, two students who hadn't seen much of the world, a little nervous.

After the final passage opened, Ji Bei immediately saw her surrounded by a crowd.

Bai Yan is currently observing experimental data from a group of cells. Those who can be selected to enter her laboratory are all people with real talent and quick learning ability. At present, all experiments are proceeding as she planned.

“This sample is good; we can continue observing it,” Bai Yan said.

"Yes, Doctor."

"Doctor, Mr. Ji has arrived." A voice came from the doorway. Bai Yan turned her head and looked over. When she saw Ji Bei, a smile quickly appeared on her lips.

"Xiao Bei, how was your rest?" Bai Yan asked with a smile as she looked at Ji Bei and Shen Cong.

Ji Bei wasn't tired at all: "I'm fine."

Shen Cong looked around curiously.

Bai Yan turned to Shen Cong and smiled gently: "I'm going to take Xiao Bei for a medical check-up. I'll have Chen Ling show you around the various research labs, how about that?"

Chen Ling was the researcher who led the two boys to the laboratory.

"Ah...is this okay?" Shen Cong couldn't help but feel a little nervous. The confidentiality agreement they had just signed already made them aware that what Teacher Bai was doing was highly confidential.

“Of course you can,” Bai Yan said. “Xiao Bei is one of the investors in the research institute, and you are his friend.”

Ji Bei suddenly felt a little embarrassed and touched his head. He had only tried to help her, but now it seemed like he had gotten a great deal.

Shen Cong inexplicably felt as if he were wearing a bright red scarf on his chest: Very good, Brother Ji is clinging to Dr. Bai's thigh, and by clinging to Brother Ji's thigh, he is indirectly clinging to the country's thigh.

Chen Ling took Shen Cong to visit the research lab, while Bai Yan took Ji Bei to the examination room. After glancing at the examination table, she gestured for Ji Bei to lie down.

"Don't be nervous, this machine is just to check your body, it will only take about three minutes." Bai Yan looked at him gently from the side: "Close your eyes, if you are really nervous, think about happy things."

Ji Bei nodded, closed his eyes, and the scene of their first meeting in the classroom involuntarily floated into his mind. It was from that day on that he felt that the world was so beautiful...

Bai Yan nodded to the researcher operating the instrument, who gave an OK sign.

About fifteen minutes later, Bai Yan received Ji Bei's latest health report. After reading it, she breathed a sigh of relief: thankfully, it wasn't as serious as she had thought.

"Xiao Bei".

Ji Bei looked up and saw Bai Yan take out a document and a pen: "Sign this."

"Oh, okay." Ji Bei took the pen and signed his name without thinking.

"Aren't you afraid I'll sell you?" Bai Yan's red lips curled slightly.

Ji Bei knew she wouldn't do that, glanced at her, and then looked a little embarrassed: "Even if I sold myself, no one would buy me, I'm not worth anything."

“I’ll buy it,” Bai Yan said. “Who says you’re worthless? You’re a treasure in my heart.”

Ji Bei's heart pounded wildly at her words, and his neck and ears turned red.

Bai Yan looked at him with interest: "Your face is so red? Xiao Bei, what are you thinking about?"

"Doctor." Soon a researcher came over carrying a tray of syringes.

Now that it was time to get down to business, Bai Yan stopped joking with Ji Bei: "What I just had you sign was an agreement from the research institute. We'll use the new drug we're researching on you to treat your illness. In layman's terms, it's a clinical trial."

Ji Bei showed no sign of resistance; he knew she wouldn't harm him.

Bai Yan touched the top of his head, looking at him with gentle eyes: "Don't worry, I won't use any medicine on you that I'm not sure about. You'll be fine."

Ji Bei nodded: "I believe Teacher Bai."

"During this time, you must live with me and undergo daily physical examinations." Bai Yan withdrew her hand, explaining the situation to him while taking out the injection.

She looked at Ji Bei and said, "It will take time to develop a cure that can completely cure you. These injections are diluted versions of the cure that can stabilize your current condition and temporarily ensure that you can live like a normal person."

"I'll give you the injection now."

Ji Bei extended her arm to make it easier for her to administer the injection.

After exploring the other places, Shen Cong arrived at the laboratory to find Ji Bei.

Hearing their conversation, I couldn't help but worry: "Won't there be side effects if a drug that hasn't undergone clinical trials is used on people?"

Hearing him say that, Chen Ling couldn't help but glare at him: "Side effects, my foot! Do you know how fierce the competition is over there for a spot in this clinical trial?"

"Huh?" Shen Cong was shocked: "These days, people are still eager to be guinea pigs?"

"That depends on whose guinea pig it is," Chen Ling said. "The reduced cell fluid that needs to be injected into him costs hundreds of millions of dollars to produce! So far, only Dr. Bai has successfully extracted it in the entire laboratory and used it as a dilution for injection."

"Reduced cell fluid, what is that?" Shen Cong asked, puzzled.

Chen Ling had to explain to him, and after listening, Shen Cong's mouth gaped open like an egg: "This sounds too fantastical, even more fantastical than the novels I've read!"

“Geniuses are different from ordinary people.” Chen Ling sighed. “If it weren’t for Dr. Bai, how could we have accessed such scientific fields?”

As Chen Ling spoke, she couldn't help but feel jealous: "To completely cure him, we need at least fifty milliliters of reducing solution. Do you think that will cost? We have a lot of confidence in Dr. Bai, but there's nothing we can do. The reducing solution also needs a sample test, so right now the entire national machine is running for his illness!"

"A guinea pig? He got a huge bargain for nothing!"

Shen Cong opened his mouth wide: "One drop... hundreds of millions of dollars?" He glanced at the empty syringe that Teacher Bai had placed aside and couldn't help but swallow.

Compared to billions of US dollars, plus a life, 50 million is a huge profit for Brother Ji!
