She had humbled herself to the point of being insignificant, but today's meeting was arranged by Yan Qi to appease Si Nian. Her flattery and care were just part of this 'beautiful couple's' play.
The two ate the original owner's food, then occupied the original owner's bridal chamber. In the bedroom, they cried and recounted the hardships of their love, thus achieving a great harmony in their lives.
Unaware of the situation, the original owner cleaned the restaurant and then retreated to her small room in the attic to sleep. When she woke up the next morning, she prepared breakfast for the two of them.
Yan Qi's brows furrowed more and more: "Bai Yan, what's wrong with you lately? You've changed so much."
Bai Yan looked at Yan Qi with amusement: "Have I changed a lot, or have you never cared about me at all?"
“I remember telling you that I’ll be busy with research at the end of this month.” Bai Yan raised an eyebrow. “I don’t think entertaining your friends is more important than my life plans and career.”
"You've also pursued a doctorate, you must know how urgent this period of time is, right?"
Yan Qi wanted to say something more, but Si Nian spoke first: "I'm sorry."
She looked at Bai Yan with her dark, clear eyes and said, "I didn't know you were so busy today. I didn't come to your wedding because I wanted to see what Yan Qi's future wife would look like, so I came uninvited."
"If I have disturbed you, I apologize."
“Since you’re busy, I happen to know a little about cooking.” Si Nian looked at Yan Qi with bright eyes: “How’s my cooking?”
Yan Qi frowned, about to stop her, but she reached out and grabbed his arm: "I want to try. Remember when we first started college? It's been years since I cooked, I don't know if my skills have gotten rusty, let's give it a try~"
Yan Qi couldn't resist her coquettishness: "Okay, but it can't be too strenuous."
After obtaining his consent, Si Nian looked at Bai Yan with a sweet smile: "Then why don't you try my and Yan Qi's cooking? He used to come here for meals a lot when we were in school, so my cooking should be pretty good."
Bai Yan's lips curled slightly, ignoring her subtle declaration of ownership: "Okay."
"My report isn't finished yet, so I'll have to get back to work. You can call me when you're ready," Bai Yan added. "If I'm too focused to hear you, you can come into my room."
After saying that, Bai Yan turned and left, and there was a bang, which seemed to be the sound of the door closing.
Yan Qi was displeased. What did Bai Yan take them for? A housekeeper who cooked for her?
"Yan Qi, let's go cook?" Si Nian pulled him along, "Hurry up and help me out."
After Si Nian fell ill, the two hadn't had such an activity for a long time. Thinking back to their memories of when they first started university, their eyes would occasionally meet while they cooked, and after finishing the meal, Si Nian blushed furiously.
Once the food was ready and on the table, Si Nian smiled and said, "I'll go call Bai Yan."
Yan Qi shook his head, puzzled, and asked, "Niannian, why did you do that to her..."
“I just want to understand her.” Si Nian smiled self-deprecatingly, “and also want to know how someone’s wife behaves.”
Yan Qi was helpless. He knew she still had a knot in her heart, but he couldn't tell her the truth. She was kind-hearted, and how could she not be tormented by her conscience after knowing the truth?
Si Nian went upstairs and knocked on Bai Yan's door, but Bai Yan did not respond.
I remembered her saying that if she was too focused, I could just walk into the room.
She turned the doorknob and entered the room, but did not see Bai Yan. Only the laptop on the desk was lit up, and a stack of documents that she seemed to have just looked through fell to the side of the desk.
Si Nian walked over and picked up the documents, his gaze naturally falling on the computer screen.
"Research Report on Antiviral Serum..." she read the title on the computer softly.
As the saying goes, "Experience makes one a good doctor." Although Si Nian was not an expert in this field, Bai Yan's report was written in a straightforward and insightful manner, and even a layman like her could see its high value at a glance.
She was stunned. She had thought Bai Yan was an unkempt academic genius, but in reality, she was intelligent and beautiful. She also thought that Bai Yan had gotten into A University by rote memorization, and was the small-town test-taker her mother talked about, whose highlight in this life was the moment she entered the university gate.
But this report made her realize that Bai Yan was a genius, and Yan Qi was also a genius like that.
"Niannian, what are you looking at?" Yan Qi's voice came in.
"It's nothing." She didn't know what she was thinking, but she didn't want Yan Qi to see Bai Yan's excellence. She stood in front of the computer, blocking his view. "She's not in her room. Did she go to the garden outside?"
"What are you doing in my room?" Just then, Bai Yan walked in and explained why she wasn't there: "I just went to the balcony to make a phone call."
"Is dinner ready?"
Si Nian smiled and said, "Yes, we can eat now."
...
At the dinner table, Si Nian served Bai Yan some food and said with a smile, "Sister Bai, you're also from A University, right? Me too, but I dropped out halfway through due to health reasons. I heard you're doing your PhD under Professor Lin. I also wanted to join his research lab back then. Can I call you senior?"
Si Nian's gaze appeared simple and kind.
Bai Yan looked at her and said very seriously, "I don't remember you. You should have dropped out of school before I entered, so you're my senior. Don't call me Sister Bai. You and Yan Qi should be the same age. I'm three years younger than you."
Since falling ill, Si Nian has always thought that she is still in the summer of her eighteenth year, but in fact she is already over thirty.
Thirty is the prime of life, but for a woman facing a rival in love, a one-year age difference can be incredibly agonizing.
"Should I call you senior?" Bai Yan asked.
Si Nian: "No...no need."
Qi didn't understand the witty remarks in this regard.
Si Nian was holding a knife and fork when she accidentally cut her little finger while cutting the steak. She cried out softly.
Yan Qi's expression changed, and he immediately stood up and lifted her hand to check: "Are you bleeding? Shall I take you to the hospital?"
"There's no bleeding, don't make a fuss, it's just a scrape," Si Nian said reproachfully.
Then she looked at Bai Yan and said, "I'm sorry, my blood clotting function is not good, and my blood type is rare, which is why Yan Qi has always been so nervous about me."
"You have Rh-negative blood?" He chuckled again, "That's quite a coincidence, I have Rh-negative blood too."
She touched her hair: "I see your roots are a bit curly, are you naturally curly too?"
Si Nian touched her hair and laughed, "You could tell? I don't like curly hair, so I straightened it."
Bai Yan chuckled lightly: "I have naturally curly hair."
As she spoke, she touched her face again: "Actually, our features are somewhat similar, don't you think?"
Si Nian was stunned for a moment. They had the same blood type and both had naturally curly hair... She and Bai Yan had very different temperaments, so when they first met, she didn't even realize that their features were actually very similar.
Si Nian was a little stunned, but Yan Qi interrupted her: "Alright, Nian Nian, I'll take you for a check-up first before I feel at ease."
