When Bai Yan entered and saw that it was Song Hansheng, a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, but then she understood.
It's nothing new for the show's director, Zhu Ze, to use this method to boost ratings.
Bai Yan nodded to Song Hansheng, who glanced at her and then turned away.
Soon, Teacher Zheng, who was in charge of the two-person group, came over. She was delighted to see Bai Yan and then greeted the two of them: "Hello, I'm in charge of your group today."
Bai Yan smiled and nodded to Teacher Zheng, "Hello, Teacher Zheng."
Teacher Zheng has a good impression of Bai Yan. There aren't many young actors as versatile as her these days. After the show ends, she would like to recommend Bai Yan to her friends.
Teacher Zheng began, "This time you'll be working with Director Chen, who is quite skilled at filming romance movies. The short film you're making is adapted from his classic film 'A Thousand Years of Love.' We won't be giving you as much time to work out as before."
"So we try to use one morning to let you get used to each other's rhythm."
Song Hansheng looked somewhat impatient. Teacher Zheng continued, "Bai Yan, you should be a method actor?"
Bai Yan chuckled lightly, not denying it. Teacher Zheng said, "Your advantage lies in the fact that while you immerse yourself in the role, you can also bring your fellow actors into the same situation."
Teacher Zheng agreed, saying, "So I'm not surprised at all when I see that you're the most popular partner."
Teacher Zheng looked at Song Hansheng and said, "Your voice, stage presence, and acting are all up to standard, but do you know why your performance score isn't high?" Before Song Hansheng could answer, Teacher Zheng continued, "You're not in character; your performance is hollow."
“I’ve already said it’s acting, so it’s fake.” Song Hansheng didn’t think his approach was wrong: “Why do we have to get into character? Acting is imitation, it’s about portraying the character’s outward characteristics.”
"I believe my acting skills are excellent enough."
Teacher Zheng shook his head: "You'll understand once you truly get into character." It's normal for young people from wealthy families to be arrogant and complacent, having had a smooth start to their careers.
"Let's familiarize ourselves with the script and characters first, and then we'll go through the whole scene together. This will save you time when you're filming this afternoon," said Teacher Zheng.
Bai Yan nodded, and Song Hansheng also nodded.
He quickly glanced through the script, then his gaze swept over Bai Yan, and a sense of annoyance grew in his heart... Just thinking about how Chen Lian was injured because of her made him unable to feel any affection for her.
What "best partner"? She has the ability, but doesn't he?
He studied micro-expression management and can control his facial expressions exceptionally well.
He graduated from a prestigious university and has exceptional intelligence; he can memorize lines after just one reading.
With the intention of overwhelming Bai Yan, Song Hansheng asked to rehearse after reading the script once.
Bai Yan put down the script. "Okay."
"A Thousand Years of Love" is a classic drama that has been remade several times.
It tells the story of a couple from the Qin Dynasty a thousand years ago who, after experiencing death and reincarnation, are drawn together by their souls and fall in love again.
Song Hansheng plays a famous general serving the Qin Emperor, while Bai Yan plays Danzhu, a fifteen-year-old palace maid.
The Qin Emperor sent Xu Fu and five hundred boys and girls to search for the elixir of immortality on the overseas immortal mountains. Danzhu, a palace maid, was among the girls. She had long been in love with the general. Going to sea to search for the immortal mountains might mean never returning in this lifetime. Danzhu was not afraid of death, but she did not want to be separated from him.
Danzhu begged the general to take her away, but the general, played by Song Hansheng, was loyal to the King of Qin. In this scene, he needed to portray a general who was tough on the outside but tender on the inside, and he had to refuse Danzhu.
"I heard from Awei that you were looking for me?" Song Hansheng asked in a deep voice. His eyes were firm, his back was straight, and he was tall and imposing. At first glance, he did indeed have the majesty of a general.
Teacher Zheng shook her head: "It has form but no substance." The general was not heartless towards Danzhu, but Song Hansheng's performance contained nothing. She continued watching.
When Danzhu, played by Bai Yan, turned around, Song Hansheng was stunned for a moment.
Her beautiful eyes were brimming with tears, like a clear spring hidden within them, but the moment she turned to look at him, the tears fell. Her eyes held so many emotions: longing, adoration, hope…
"General, Lord Xu has chosen me. Tomorrow I will be setting sail with the fleet." Danzhu looked at him with tearful eyes. "I don't want to go to sea..."
She pressed his hand against her face, and fifteen-year-old Danzhu's love was overflowing. "Take me away, I want to be with you forever." Her eyes were frighteningly bright, and the burning love in them made his heart feel like it was being scalded.
Song Hansheng couldn't bear to let disappointment show in those eyes.
"General?"
Song Hansheng snapped out of his daze: "I...I am a general of the Great Qin. I have sworn an oath to be loyal to His Majesty for the rest of my life." He finished his lines haltingly, but the light in her watery eyes gradually lost its color, and Song Hansheng's heart was in turmoil.
"Yes, I am but a maid, how can I compare to your king, your Qin dynasty?" Danzhu smiled sadly and let go of his hand. Her once clear eyes, which were as clear as morning dew in the mountains even when she was crying, became somber.
Danzhu glanced back at him one last time, then lowered her eyes and left without a word.
"No..." Before Song Hansheng could finish speaking, Teacher Zheng called out to stop.
"Card!"
Teacher Zheng looked at Bai Yan first and said with a smile, "You are still as perfect as before."
Then he looked at Song Hansheng: "Song Hansheng, your state just now was not right. The general would not have hesitated, nor would he have stopped Danzhu. I need to talk to you about the character." He turned back to look at Bai Yan, "You can go and rest first."
