Bai Yan's research progress has fallen far behind. If she doesn't produce satisfactory results within two months, she may be dismissed.
But Professor Lin didn't like her and didn't let her participate in any research work except for some miscellaneous tasks.
If Professor Lin's process had been followed, it would have been strange if she had been able to produce a satisfactory report within two months.
Bai Yan has finished her research report and applied to the institute for a new laboratory.
"Senior, I'm going to see a movie with my friends today. Could you please check my petri dish for me? Thanks!" Sun Qianqian greeted Bai Yan while carrying her bag, then turned to leave.
"I don't have time," Bai Yan said coldly.
The original owner believed that his family had delayed his research, so he voluntarily took on many trivial matters.
Bai Yan could tell that Professor Lin and his research team were isolating the original owner of the body. She wouldn't do anything for them; her labor and brain shouldn't be wasting their time.
"Senior?" Sun Qianqian was taken aback for a moment, then became a little angry after she realized what she meant: "I didn't mean to cause you trouble. I'm working for the professor too. You're the only one with free time right now, why are you doing this kind of thing?"
"It's as if I'm making things difficult for you."
Bai Yan looked at her coldly: "Get this straight, you're earning your credits by working for Professor Lin, not mine. Even if I didn't have my own experiments to do, I have no obligation to help you."
After saying this, Bai Yan turned and left.
Sun Qianqian bit her lip and said to Shen Zhibo beside her, "Has she taken the wrong medicine? She's the one with the most free time, and she won't even help us with something!"
"Alright, don't be angry," Shen Zhibo comforted her. "From what I can tell, the professor thinks that in two months at most, her research report will still be empty. How can you expect her to produce anything worthwhile all by herself?"
"If you can't hand over the goods by then, you're fired."
"The space that's been cleared out is yours. What else are you dissatisfied with?"
Sun Qianqian then gave a soft snort and muttered, "The professor is really something. If he didn't like her, why did he admit her in the first place? He just wasted a spot..."
Shen Zhibo shrugged. "Who knows?"
...
While handling matters in the research lab, Bai Yan didn't forget to mention Ji Bei.
She deliberately posted a message on her WeChat Moments that was visible only to him: "I need to move equipment to the new lab. It'll probably take all day. My arms are so numb. It's a pity that none of my friends are available to help."
She posted another photo of her hand, which was red from being bound.
Not long after the message was sent, Ji Bei sent a message: Teacher Bai, my roommate and I happen to have no classes today.
With her fair skin and red lips curving slightly, she fished around, but this was the easiest fish to catch.
Ji Bei brought Shen Cong to Bai Yan's research lab. Bai Yan didn't want to tire him out, so she hired workers to prepare some of the larger experimental equipment. When the two boys arrived, there was only some finishing work left.
The two boys were working hard, so Bai Yan went out and bought two bottles of ice water. When they took a break, she handed them the water and said, "Thank you so much for today, you've worked hard."
Shen Cong chuckled: "It's no trouble at all. Our Brother Ji has always been a good student since he was a child, and he loves to help his teachers!"
Ji Bei threw the water directly to Shen Cong, saying, "This is my roommate, Shen Cong."
Bai Yan chuckled softly, "Oh, I remember."
Shen Cong was flattered. Bai Yan continued, "Last semester, only two people failed Professor Lin's course." One was Ji Bei, and the other was Shen Cong.
Bai Yan glanced at her watch: "It's still early, and the lab is empty. How about I tutor you guys?"
Shen Cong's expression changed. "Is...this devilish?"
Bai Yan chuckled, "Just kidding, it's not that bad. A nice restaurant opened nearby, I'll treat you to dinner."
Shen Cong, being quite perceptive, didn't want to be a third wheel and made an excuse to slip away.
Bai Yan then took Ji Bei to a nearby restaurant. The food at this restaurant was quite good. After the two enjoyed their meal, she went to the restroom to touch up her makeup.
Ji Bei immediately pulled out his phone and asked for help: "What should I do next? Where should I take her?" He had absolutely no experience dating girls.
Shen Cong: "Idiot! Do what you do best right now! To make a girl like you, you have to show her your strength. People admire strength!"
Ji Bei seemed to be deep in thought.
Bai Yan touched up her lipstick and returned to the dining table, smiling as she asked Ji Bei, "Where are you going next?"
"Want to play games together?" Ji Bei asked at the same time.
Bai Yan was surprised for a moment, then smiled and nodded. Ji Bei wasn't so clueless. He took the girl to the internet cafe to play games, then played the mobile version he used for professional gaming, briefly teaching her the controls. "Yes, that's it!"
"Yes, you are very smart."
Bai Yan looked up at him with a smile. When it came to his professional field, his eyes and brows lit up, making him look even more handsome.
The two played for a while, and when they played duo, Ji Bei almost always carried the team to victory.
"Wow, that's amazing!" Bai Yan praised him, her eyes crinkling with laughter. "Is this what they say online, 'climbing ranks while lying down'?"
Ji Bei blushed at her praise. Shen Cong was right about that; she had indeed been praising him for his abilities.
"Actually, you asked me the other day why I could recognize you. How could I not recognize you?" Bai Yan smiled at him: "You're an e-sports star with many fans online. I've also seen your videos."
"Is that so?" Ji Bei scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly.
"If you hadn't retired, your online commercial value would have been very high, and you'd still be in your prime. Why did you choose to retire?" Bai Yan asked.
Ji Bei's expression stiffened slightly: "It's just... I keep failing my courses and can't keep up with my studies." Not knowing what to say, he just mumbled, "Esports is a young person's game, studying is more important."
Bai Yan could tell he didn't want to talk about it, so she didn't press him further and changed the subject with a smile: "Speaking of academics, my lab needs an intern? How about coming to work? You can even get extra credits if you win an award."
Ji Bei pretended to hesitate for a moment before nodding in agreement.
Bai Yan chuckled softly, but her fingers tapped nervously on the table: she felt that Ji Bei was hiding something very serious from her.
Just then, his phone rang; it was Professor Lin calling.
As soon as the call connected, he said aggressively, "Bai Yan, who told you to move the equipment out of the lab? You come back here right now!"
