"He Caisheng! He Caisheng! Your sister is injured!"
The sound of villagers shouting came from outside the door. He Caisheng put down his pen and hurriedly ran out, with He Ruyi following behind with her short legs.
Mingyue slowly got up and walked outside. He Caisheng and several villagers helped He Nian, who was covered in injuries, into the room.
"I'm fine, it just looks scary, but it's all just abrasions."
He Nian helplessly draped her arm over He Caisheng's shoulder. Apart from a rather serious sprained ankle, she was perfectly fine.
He Caisheng didn't respond, tears welling up in his eyes with heartache. If he were a little older, his sister wouldn't have to suffer so much.
When the other villagers saw Mingyue and Haozi, they acted as if they had seen a cat, handing them over to He Caisheng and then leaving.
He Ruyi brought over a stool, and He Caisheng helped He Nian sit down. "I'll go get some ointment for the scrapes."
He Nian hummed in agreement, her eyes softening. When she looked up and saw Mingyue staring at her, she smiled a little shyly, "Today's meal might be a little late."
Mingyue asked, "It's nothing, how did it get like this?"
"I was walking on the path when the sky suddenly darkened and the wind started howling. My eyes were blinded by the sand and I didn't notice when I stepped into the thorny bushes below."
As soon as He Nian finished speaking, He Ruyi silently shed tears, her eyes fixed on the injured spot, her little hands trembling as she dared not touch it.
"Ruyi, don't cry. It doesn't really hurt. It's just a scrape. It's okay."
To prove she was alright, He Nian pressed hard on the injured area, saying, "Press it a little longer, and the bleeding will stop."
"The wound is dirty."
He Ruyi stopped He Nian's actions. There was a doctor in the village who treated patients with spurs. She had seen the doctor specifically say that any dirt on the wound must be cleaned, as it would hinder the wound's healing.
He Caisheng placed several bottles of medicine in front of He Nian, "Sister, which one is this?"
He Nian pointed to the wound medicine next to her, but He Ruyi spoke up again, "Brother, go get a bottle of wine."
What do you need the wine for?
He Ruyi said sullenly, "Clean my sister's wound."
He Nian was surprised that He Ruyi knew about disinfection. She had thought she could just deal with it casually since it was just a scratch.
He Caisheng, unsuspecting, went to the cellar and dug out a small jar of wine. He Ruyi found a clean cloth, wet it, and looked at He Nian nervously, "Sister, it might hurt a little."
"It's okay, you go ahead, I'm not afraid of pain."
He Nian smiled, trying to appear relaxed, but her rapid breathing betrayed her.
It would be a lie to say it didn't hurt. When He Ruyi rubbed the wound with alcohol, He Nian almost groaned. Her body trembled uncontrollably, and she had to grit her teeth to get through it.
"I'll be gentle."
He Ruyi gently blew on He Nian's wound while carefully wiping it.
He Nian thought of gently touching He Ruyi's head, but seeing that his hands were covered in blood, he decided to give up.
After cleaning the wound, He Ruyi took out some wound medicine and gently applied it to He Nian's wound. He Nian felt a cool sensation on the wound and couldn't help but sigh, "It's so good to have younger siblings."
"Next time, my sister and I will go to work in the fields together."
He Caisheng didn't shed tears, but his eyes were red. He was the only man in the family, and he couldn't let his sister do all the work by herself anymore.
He Nian immediately tapped He Caisheng on the head, "What nonsense are you talking about? From now on, you should just stay home and study hard. I was hoping that you would become the top scholar and take us to the capital."
