Song Jinyun's throat tightened, and she subconsciously looked at the indifferent Huo Yuan, her lips forcing a stiff smile. "Shengze was infected by the zombie virus just now. I couldn't bear to do it. Huo Yuan saved me and also relieved Shengze's suffering..."
"Shengze is dead?"
Zhou Mengya's face turned pale, and she murmured aloud.
Song Jinyun: "Yes, it's possible that they didn't believe they were being grabbed by zombies during the fight."
"Mengya, don't be too sad. There is still hope for the living. As long as we deal with the zombies, we can at least give Shengze an explanation."
"Shengze usually takes the best care of you, Mengya, don't let him down, cheer up."
Zhou Mengya ignored the comforting words of those around her. Even when someone tried to help her up, her steps faltering, she pushed them away in a daze and turned to walk out of the square.
"I'll go keep an eye on her." Ji Huai'an followed.
The others, having taken their supplies, followed suit.
Pei Ke lagged a few steps behind and asked Huo Yuan in a low voice, "What happened?"
"She made a move."
Huo Yuan's simple four words made Pei Ke's heart sink.
The loss of another teammate created a suffocating atmosphere within the team, making it hard to breathe.
Can the zombie virus really disappear?
A sentence rang out in the dimly lit carriage.
But no one could answer.
A year has passed since the apocalypse, and the world still doesn't know where the zombie virus came from, nor has any country figured out how to eliminate it.
Every day and night, they open their eyes to endless zombies, and watch their former comrades fall one by one. They are nearing their breaking point.
"This damn virus! Who came up with this?! If I find out, I'll tear that person's tendons out and skin them alive!"
"I curse that the father of this virus will never have a single child born to him, and that his son will be useless on the field, unable to even be lifted up!"
The group unleashed a torrent of abuse, which slightly eased the oppressive atmosphere in the carriage.
Soon, the conversation fell into a second awkward silence. Pei Ke closed her eyes to rest, unwilling to look at Song Jinyun across from her.
Suddenly, Pei Ke felt something appear in front of her, but it was blurry and she couldn't see it clearly. Pei Ke frowned and opened her eyes to see Song Jinyun opposite her with her head down.
Pei Ke suppressed her surprise and doubt, thinking that she was probably just too tired these past few days and had misread it.
Three days later, Song Jinyun reorganized the team to go out and search for supplies again. This time, they went to the hospital to find medicine. After obtaining the supplies, they left by car.
When Pei Ke closed her eyes to rest, she saw the misty space again. It seemed a little clearer than before, and she could vaguely see a puddle in the middle of the mist.
Half a month later, Pei Ke finally saw the original appearance of this space. What was once a dry puddle was now beginning to fill with water.
Pei Ke bent down, scooped out a spoonful, and took a sip. It was cool and sweet, and it felt like all her fatigue had been washed away. This was good stuff! She had to take it to her sister!
That same day, Pei Ke went to the research institute and said, "Please inform them that I need Pei Ke to come and see Sister Mingyue."
"Okay, please wait a moment." The clerk walked to the phone booth, confirmed that someone had come out, and said, "Please register me before I take you in."
"OK."
Pei Ke quickly finished writing, then, clutching the bottle in his hand, followed the messenger past several gates until they finally saw the bright moon.
However, Mingyue was accompanied by a group of people, so Pei Ke did not rush forward to disturb her and waited quietly to the side.
