After learning of Xia Baolin's request, the village chief readily did her a favor.
Mingyue maintained a gentle smile and looked at Xia Baolin with kind eyes, "Thank you for your trouble, Xia Zhiqing."
"No trouble at all, Comrade Mingyue."
The village chief left after escorting the educated youth to their residence, beaming with joy the whole way. Who wouldn't be tempted by free education?
"What good news has the village chief been up to, making him so happy?"
The village chief suppressed a smile and gave the other person a knowing look. "You'll see later, it's a great thing for the whole village!"
As the village chief, he naturally knows the importance of education, and it is only right that he should help the illiterate villagers to improve their literacy!
"What good news is it? Tell me about it!"
Demolition and relocation? Or cash handouts?
"You'll find out tomorrow, what's the rush?"
He now needs to clear out a vacant lot so that the whole village can come and study.
Xia Baolin led Mingyue to the room she had tidied up, her cheeks slightly flushed and a little reserved. "Comrade Mingyue, all these blankets and things are new. The room is a bit small, but you don't have to live with anyone else."
"It doesn't matter."
When the police arrived, many educated youths came to inquire, and Qin Chuchu was among them.
"Comrade Mingyue, do you have any mission here?"
The female educated youth leaned against the door panel, asking curiously.
Nothing major happened in the village that required the police to come, right? Or did they miss out on some gossip?
Mingyue replied calmly, "Yes."
Everyone waited for what would happen next, but then what?
Seeing that Mingyue had no intention of saying another word, Xia Baolin stepped in to smooth things over, cutting off any questions the others might ask, "Aren't you all gathered here and not working? Comrade Mingyue needs to rest too."
Turning her head, Xia Baolin looked at Mingyue and said, "Comrade Mingyue, what would you like to eat for lunch? I'll make it for you."
"Just do what you're good at."
"Okay, I'll go to work now."
Xia Baolin had already left, and the others had no reason to stay. After things calmed down, Mingyue went out with a dagger in her hand.
They headed straight for the mountains behind the village. The mountains were sparsely populated, and Mingyue noticed that several simple hunting traps had been set at the foot of the mountain.
They continued walking uphill. It had been a long time since she had eaten meat. Should she kill a wild boar or hunt a few rabbits?
As I was pondering this, I saw Chang Yan carrying a bow and arrows, holding a chicken in one hand and a rabbit in the other.
Chang Yan recognized Mingyue as the policeman who had rescued Baolin. Years of hunting had tanned his skin dark, but his eyes were clear and bright. He grinned, revealing a mouthful of white teeth, and shouted, "Comrade Mingyue!"
"Comrade Mingyue, what brings you to the village? And why did you go up the mountain? Do you have a mission?"
Before Mingyue could answer, Changyan contradicted himself, "No, you can't say you have a mission. Comrade Mingyue, did you go up the mountain to hunt? Do you want these things I have?"
"It's free! I still have to thank you for helping Pauline out last time. Please don't refuse, these are just cheap things!"
Chang Yan shoved the food into Mingyue's hand, as if afraid she wouldn't accept it. Only after Mingyue took it did Chang's simple face regain its smile. "If you want more, Comrade Mingyue, just let me know."
"Thank you. Then I'll trouble you to take these to Xia Zhiqing, since she said she'd cook." Mingyue smiled and handed the prey in her hands to the other person.
Why does the main character always want her to accept gifts?
Is she such a frivolous person?
A restaurant owner who specializes in buying wild game from Chang Yan at high prices: You really make me cry.
