Shen Ye was handcuffed and locked up. By the time Jiang Chen arrived, it was already evening.
The detention center was dimly lit, and Shen Ye couldn't see the man's expression clearly, but he could feel the coldness emanating from him.
"I didn't do it." Although this explanation was really weak in the face of sufficient witnesses and physical evidence, Shen Ye still tried to explain with a sliver of hope. He thought, what if Jiang Chen would condone and protect him?
But reality slapped him hard in the face.
"Shut up, I didn't come here to hear you say that."
"Then what am I supposed to say? Say that I did it? Why should I admit it if I didn't do it?" Shen Ye roared, just like the original owner when she forced Jiang Chen to divorce her—equally hysterical and out of control.
"I didn't do it. Believe it or not, I have nothing to say." Shen Ye calmed down. He knew he couldn't anger Jiang Chen. If he obeyed, perhaps Jiang Chen would help him.
However, he underestimated Old Madam Jiang's methods.
Jiang Chen didn't speak, his deep eyes fixed on Shen Ye, as if trying to see through him.
After a long, long time, he finally spoke: "Lin Yanhuan, after tonight, don't look for me anymore. The house in Jingyuan is in your name, and there's a card with ten million in it in the bedside table. Take those and stay away from me."
Shen Ye's mind went blank for a moment, and she gripped Jiang Chen's sleeve tightly with both hands. "You believed it too? I didn't do it. We've been together for three years. Don't you know what kind of person I am? It was your grandmother who conspired with Lin Weihan to frame me."
However, after hearing Shen Ye's words, Jiang Chen pushed his hand away and said coldly, "What does it matter whether I believe it or not? In short, I don't want to see you again, and I don't want to have anything to do with you anymore."
"You still don't believe me." Shen Ye sneered, looking at Jiang Chen with fearless eyes: "You're afraid that making our relationship public will damage your reputation, so you're starting to try to get rid of me with money? Jiang Chen, let me tell you, I won't take these things, I'm going to stick with you."
Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Chen suddenly grabbed Shen Ye by the neck, slammed him onto the table, and said, each word sharp as a knife, "Leave me or go to jail, do you really want to choose the latter?"
Jiang Chen's movements were a bit too forceful, causing Shen Ye's back to ache.
"Letting me leave you is more agonizing than going to jail."
"Then I will grant your wish." The man's cold voice was like a sharp knife.
After the man left, Shen Ye sat on the floor of the detention center, hugging her knees.
Helpless, aggrieved, angry!
Three days later, the first trial began. Shen Ye was brought to the courtroom. He stood in the dock, coldly looking at Jiang Chen sitting in the audience.
He was dressed in a well-tailored suit, his hair was perfectly styled, and his face was expressionless, but he seemed to have lost some weight.
Is it just my imagination?
Shen Ye smiled bitterly, looked down at himself, dressed in prison clothes, covered in dust and dirt. Compared to Jiang Chen, it seemed like two completely different lives after the incident.
Shen Ye was all alone in City A, with no family, no friends, and no defense lawyer...
Just as Shen Ye resigned himself to his fate and turned around, a man claiming to be a lawyer walked up to Shen Ye.
Shen Ye knew very well that he had no time to find a lawyer, nor would anyone find one for him. So?
"Wow, look, it's Attorney Chen Xingshen."
"It really is him. Doesn't he refuse to take these kinds of cases? Besides, his fees are very high. How could the defendant, who looks so poor, possibly afford to hire him?"
