Shen Muqing was most afraid of these legless mollusks; they were disgusting and terrifying.
A look of panic and fear crossed her face. "Has it been on my brother the whole time?"
"yes."
Lan Jin hooked her finger and patted the silver snake's head. The silver snake was very obedient, lowering its head and looking at Shen Muqing with its big snake eyes.
"Qingqing doesn't like it? Yinzi likes you very much."
"I...I like it." Shen Muqing stammered, saying something against her will. Did she dare to say she didn't like it?
"Really? Then touch it, it will be very happy."
Lan Jin loved her just like this, so helpless and pitiful.
He pulled Shen Muqing's hand and placed it on Yinzi's head. Yinzi knew that its master liked this human very much, so it lowered its head and rubbed against her palm, even licking it with its tongue.
Shen Muqing nervously closed her eyes; she was no longer clean.
There was no chilling sensation as I had expected; instead, I felt a soft, yielding feeling.
"Does it really like me?" Shen Muqing was unsure. She mustered her courage and wrapped her hand around its tongue, also touching its body. It was very smooth.
"Yes, don't worry, it won't bite."
"good."
Shen Muqing picked up the silver, which then wrapped around her hand, respectfully trying to please her.
Seeing that it wasn't as scary as she had imagined, Shen Muqing relaxed, reaching out her other hand to pat Yinzi's little head.
"It's called Silver, right?"
"yes."
"What color is it? Is it poisonous?"
"Silver-white, it's not poisonous to you."
"Is it cute?"
"cute."
Silver seemed to understand their conversation, and it hissed in protest. It wasn't cute at all; it was clearly very majestic.
But the silver's protests were ineffective; all it received in return was a glare from its master.
"It's a pity I can't see. I wish I could."
"We'll see it someday."
"I hope so. Will my brother think I talk too much?"
"Won't."
On the day he made Shen Muqing his own, he planned to take her back to the village and have Granny Li take a look. Granny Li was a very skilled doctor, and if she couldn't cure her, then Shen Muqing's eyes probably wouldn't be able to be healed.
"Thank you, brother."
Shen Muqing habitually expressed her gratitude.
"We're like siblings, no need to be so polite."
"Then I want to eat candied hawthorn."
"Okay, I'll go down and buy it for you. You stay here and keep the money with you."
Yinzi received the instruction and rubbed against Shen Muqing's palm.
"good!"
The door opened and closed again, leaving only Shen Muqing and the silver snake in the room.
"Silver, silver, why did your master name you Silver? Are you worth a lot of silver?"
Silver tilted its snake head and looked at Shen Muqing, still slowly flicking its tongue.
"Okay, forget you can't speak."
"Silver, what kind of person is your master?"
There was no response, and Shen Muqing was getting a little bored, but she wouldn't be foolish enough to go looking for Lan Jin. She could only obediently wait for Lan Jin to return in her room.
Perhaps it was because she was blind that Shen Muqing felt very insecure, always feeling that someone was going to harm her.
Oh right, she remembered. If the old woman found out she was missing, she would definitely lead soldiers to look for her. She wondered how far this place was from where they lived.
She had to tell Lan Jin to leave quickly; they couldn't stay here any longer, or they'd be in trouble if the pursuers caught up.
Shen Muqing sat on the stool, bored, and would occasionally pat Yinzi's head. Yinzi would respond to her, so she wasn't lonely.
Fortunately, Lan Jin returned soon, bringing back candied hawthorns and fragrant chestnuts.
"Brother? You're back?"
"Yes, I bought you candied hawthorns and chestnuts."
"Give it to me now, I want to eat it!"
"good."
Lan Jin handed the candied hawthorn to Shen Muqing first, and Shen Muqing took it and put it in her mouth to eat.
Lan Jin peeled chestnuts for Shen Muqing, watching her eat with doting eyes. Yinzi cleverly slipped into Lan Jin's sleeve.
The two bickered and argued all day long.
That evening, Shen Muqing carefully asked, "Brother, can we leave here tomorrow?"
"You don't like this place?"
"Yes, I don't like it."
"good."
Shen Muqing thought that if she didn't leave soon, she would be captured and forced to marry that old man from Wei, which she didn't want.
"Leaving first thing tomorrow morning."
"good."
It was late at night. Shen Muqing yawned, feeling sleepy. A few tears welled up in the corners of her eyes. Anyone who didn't know better would think that someone had bullied her and made her cry.
Are you sleepy?
Lan Jin made the bed and asked Shen Muqing.
"I'm a little tired and sleepy."
"Then come and sleep with me."
Upon hearing this, Shen Muqing exclaimed, "What? Sleep together? Things seem to be progressing a bit too fast."
"What? Doesn't your sister want to?"
"Or is the younger sister afraid that her older brother might do something to you?"
Lan Jin feigned being hurt, realizing that Shen Muqing didn't trust her.
"Qingqing, your brother doesn't have any extra money. He can only afford one room. Since you won't sleep with me, I'll just make do with the table for the night."
"No, I'm not unwilling, I'm willing."
Shen Muqing quickly spoke up to explain, feeling sorry for the person who paid for it; how could she ask them to sleep on the table?
"But brother, didn't I give you my phoenix crown?"
That phoenix crown is worth a lot of money; it's worth at least several hundred gold coins, if not a thousand.
"I threw it away."
"What! You threw it away? That was very valuable."
Shen Muqing raised her voice. She had worn a phoenix crown weighing over ten kilograms, and she hadn't thrown it away no matter how hard or tiring the journey was. Yet he had just thrown it away so casually.
"Qingqing, no one will dare to accept this phoenix crown. Wearing it is just a burden, so you might as well throw it away," Lan Jin explained.
"Why?"
Who would dare to take anything from the palace?
The jewelry worn by the concubines and princesses in the palace was all made by special craftsmen and engraved with unique royal patterns. Who would dare to pawn it?
"I see."
Shen Muqing instantly cried at her own stupidity. How could she not have thought of that? Her voice softened; she didn't want Lan Jin to continue asking questions. If Lan Jin knew she was a princess who had run away from her arranged marriage, would he still take her in?
It's probably unlikely they would do that to save their lives.
"Let's go to sleep quickly, we still have to travel tomorrow."
Lan Jin didn't press further, knowing that Shen Muqing didn't want to talk about it, so he didn't ask.
"By the way, is Silver going to bed too? I'm afraid I'll crush it."
It sleeps on the table.
"oh oh."
Shen Muqing awkwardly walked to the bedside. Lan Jin quickly took her hand as she got up, afraid that she would bump into something again and then cry in a delicate way.
"Go to sleep."
"Okay, brother, you should go to sleep early too."
"Um."
Shen Muqing lay on the inside, in a good sleeping position, trying her best to curl up inside and close her eyes to sleep.
Lan Jin frowned and narrowed her eyes unhappily as she looked at the gap between the two of them that could still fit two blankets.
Tsk.
