Chapter 3: The CEO's Personal Secretary with a Maxim of Contrast (Part 3)

"Okay, Mom, stop complaining. Huanhuan and the others will be here soon."

Speak of the devil, and he appears. Su Mohuan was holding her mother's arm, and next to her was her father, dressed simply but exuding an air of authority.

"Hello, uncles and aunts, I am Xu Che, and this is my mother," Xu Che said politely.

Su Mohuan also greeted Xu's mother very politely: "Hello, Auntie, I am Su Mohuan, and these are my parents."

The parents of both sides nodded and greeted each other upon meeting. Su's mother, understanding their situation, said, "Everyone, please go inside; it's windy outside."

Inside the private room, Xu Che had already ordered the food. He placed the menu in front of Su's mother and said, "Uncle and Aunt, I don't know what you like to eat, so I ordered some dishes first. Please see if there's anything else you'd like to add."

This action increased Su's mother's favor towards him, and Su Mohuan also agreed with his approach, secretly giving him a thumbs up.

At this moment, Xu's mother spoke up, her voice gentle and soft, completely belying her sharp and sarcastic nature: "Huanhuan, I heard you're not from around here?"

When Su Mohuan heard that she was being asked, she replied, "Yes, Auntie, I'm from Haishi."

What followed was nothing more than chatting about everyday things. Su's father asked in a deep voice, "Where does Xiao Xu work? How's his income?"

Xu Che immediately straightened up and said proudly, "Uncle, I am the manager of the marketing department of Shenshi Group, and my current annual salary is one million."

However, these things did not make Su's father look at him with new eyes, after all, in his view these were the minimum standards for marrying his daughter.

When asked if he owned a car and a house, Xu Che lowered his head and answered hesitantly, "Uncle, I've bought a house, but not in full. I don't have a car yet, but I believe I'll work hard to buy one. I'll give Mo Huan a good life." His tone became more and more determined as he made a promise to Su's father.

Su Mohuan was clearly moved by Xu Che's promise; she never expected him to love her so much.

To everyone's surprise, Su's father was not affected by Xu Che at all and continued to ask, "So you mean you have nothing now? My daughter is marrying into this family just to suffer with you?"

Xu Che hurriedly explained, "No, I will give everything I have to Mo Huan and I won't let her suffer at all."

Xu's mother quickly added, "I won't let Huanhuan do any housework after she marries into our family. She just needs to be pretty and happy."

With the two of them by her side, Su Mohuan felt very happy now, having a boyfriend who loved her so much and a mother-in-law who understood her so well.

She tugged at her mother's hand and said sweetly, "Mom, I really like Xu Che, so please ask Dad to agree."

Unlike usual, Su's mother didn't indulge Su Mohuan. "Huanhuan, listen to your father on this matter. Whatever he means is what I mean."

Su Mohuan turned to her father, looking at him pleadingly: "Dad~ please agree."

Mr. Su was not affected by his daughter's gaze. This was a matter of great importance concerning his daughter's life, and he could not be so careless.

Su's father asked Xu Che many more questions, almost revealing all his family's wealth, before finally bringing up the issue of the bride price: "Xiao Xu, you earn a million a year, so a bride price of 200,000 shouldn't be a problem for you. Her mother and I don't want the bride price either; we'll leave it to Huanhuan herself. That's my only condition."

Seeing that the topic of betrothal gifts had finally come up, Xu Che looked at Su Mohuan. Su Mohuan's eyes were filled with urgency, urging him to hurry up and get to the final step so that they could be together.

Xu Che stammered, then decided to just give up: "Uncle, I have no problem with the bride price of 200,000 yuan, but can you give me the bride price after the wedding? I really can't afford that much money right now."

Xu's mother looked at Su Mohuan, hoping she could understand Xu Che: "Huanhuan, you know that Che has used all his money to buy a house, and he really doesn't have that much money on him. Please understand Che, he has it tough too."

Su Mohuan was surprised that the conversation had turned to her. She looked at her father in a panic, but he was expressionless and she couldn't tell whether he was angry or not.

Father Su calmly said, "Since that's the case, then we have nothing more to talk about. Huanhuan, let's go." He helped Mother Su up and pulled Su Mohuan towards the door.

Xu Che wanted to persuade her to stay, but it seemed to be his fault, so he sat in his seat with his head down. Xu's mother tried to pull Su Mohuan away, but Xu Che stopped her.

Outside the Jingwei Pavilion, Su Mohuan cried out, "Dad, the bride price isn't that important. As long as I love him and he loves me, that's enough."

This childlike remark made Su's father smile wryly: "Huanhuan, Dad hopes you will be happy and not have to worry about trivial matters after marriage. He can't give you that kind of life right now, you two are not suitable."

"But I love him."

Su's father didn't want to discourage his daughter, but he had to say: "Huanhuan, love without material support is doomed to fail. Your mother and I don't want you to suffer."

Su's mother comforted her daughter, "You need to know that with Xu Che's current abilities, he can't give you the life you want. You'll have a very hard time if you marry him."

"Warning! Warning! The relationship between the male and female protagonists is in crisis. Please intervene in time."

The cold, impersonal mechanical sound pulled Shen Muqing back to reality from watching a variety show on TV. "Poor working people have to work overtime after get off work," Shen Muqing complained.

Her hands didn't slow down. It seemed that the two sets of parents had broken up. She called Su Mohuan, but the phone rang for a long time before it was answered.

On the other end of the phone, Su Mohuan's voice was very nasal, clearly indicating she had been crying: "Hello, Qingqing."

"Huanhuan, where are you? I'm coming to find you."

Su Mohuan was silent for a moment before speaking: "I'm by the Changjing River."

"What? Send me your location, I'm coming right away." After saying that, Shen Muqing didn't even change his clothes and went out to find her in his SpongeBob SquarePants pajamas.

Su Mohuan was a little confused; it seemed that Qingqing had misunderstood her.

On the way, Shen Muqing kept muttering, "Please don't jump! He's just a man. Huanhuan, you have to wait for me."

Upon hearing that someone was about to jump into the river, the driver immediately floored the accelerator: "Don't worry, young lady, with me being the fastest in Beijing, I'll definitely catch up."

"Thank you in advance, driver. If you ever need anything from me, just let me know."

"You're too kind, little sister. Please sit tight."

Shen Muqing rushed to Su Mohuan's location and finally arrived, only to see a lonely figure standing by the river. She shouted, "Huanhuan, no! Don't jump!"

In the blink of an eye, Shen Muqing rushed towards Su Mohuan, but failed to see where he was standing.

A loud bang was followed by painful screams and insults.

"Damn it, who's so rude as to throw a banana peel on the ground?"

Su Mohuan slowly turned around, still chewing on half a banana. "Oh dear, looks like I've gotten into trouble."
