Lan's mother was furious. Like daughter, like mother. Just look at Tang Xinyou's behavior, and you'll know how unreasonable her mother is. Lan's mother said with a livid face, "I don't think you're here to apologize today. We don't want to hear anything else. My daughter was in a coma for three whole years. Did your daughter even come to see her once? She watched my daughter fall to the ground, knowing full well that she had a heart condition, and still stood by and watched her die. What is this if not murder? Our family has been ruined. Have you ever repented?"
Tang Xinyou's mother said, "Look, Linghu Lan's mother, this is what you're doing, being unreasonable. Your daughter isn't in good health. If she were healthy, would this have happened? My daughter is unlucky enough to have encountered this. What if she hadn't gone back to the dormitory that day? Would this have been avoided? Now you're not having a good time, and you don't want us to have a good time either. What are you up to?"
Lan's mother trembled with anger; she realized that not everyone possessed good manners. She opened her mouth, only managing to utter angrily, "There's nothing to talk about, get out!"
Linghu Lan slowly walked forward and helped her mother to sit down in a chair. "Mom, don't be angry! I'll help you!"
"Lanlan, don't pay attention to them! Mommy's here!"
"Mom, it's okay, I can handle it myself, trust me!" Linghu Lan's soft hand rested on her mother's shoulder, with a comforting power.
Linghu Lan straightened up and glanced at Tang Xinyou and her mother. Tang Xinyou was expressionless and slightly avoided Linghu Lan's gaze. Tang Xinyou's mother, on the other hand, had a shrewd and calculating look on her face, as if Linghu Lan was just an appetizer.
Linghu Lan withdrew her gaze, calmly sat down in a chair, and said indifferently, "If you have something to say, then say it!"
This calm and composed demeanor made Tang Xinyou and her mother feel uneasy. If Linghu Lan had made a scene or shown some emotional fluctuations, they would have found it much easier to handle, as that was an environment they were comfortable in. However, Linghu Lan remained as steady as a rock, completely calm and collected, leaving them at a loss and unsure of how to proceed.
Tang Xinyou's mother reacted quickly, pulling Tang Xinyou aside before sitting on the bed with a smile. "Linghu Lan, the main reason I came today is to have Youyou apologize to you. Back then, she was immature and didn't understand the gravity of the situation. But to be honest, if you were healthy, our Youyou wouldn't have gotten into this mess. You're both at fault. Now, you've finally recovered, and things are slowly getting better. Going to court is stressful and exhausting, not good for you or your parents. Both sides suffer in court, and the lawyers are the ones who benefit. I think if we all compromise and give in a little, it'll all be over, right? Besides, I heard Youyou say that you always give in to her at school. This time, you should give in to her too. She already knows she was wrong. What do you think?"
Linghu Lan remained expressionless and calmly said, "No, I was blind before, but my eye disease has been cured now. Besides, we are all experiencing life for the first time, so why should I give in to her? She is not my daughter. Even if she were my daughter, I would teach her to be reasonable, not to stand by and watch someone die."
Tang Xinyou's mother's face showed anger. She said, "My daughter is your daughter. Isn't this blatant taking advantage?" But now was not the time to tear off the mask, so she swallowed her anger.
